The Complete Guide to Weapons

Welcome to the Complete Guide to Weapons by me. Here you will find images of the HUD icons, images of the weapon carried by Victor, and a description.

Update 2: A new map has been updated. I added a health/armor map.

Update: I have added a few weapons/armor maps on the 4th post.

Big thanks to Sousanator for his All Weapons cheat for CheatDevice, and of course edisoncarter for the CheatDevice itself!

Note: the “Damage” indication is in reference to the other weapons of that category of weapons. Not in reference to weapons as a whole. For that reason, I have only given a score for the Melee weapons and Fists.

Note: for the Firearms, I have tested to see how many rounds it takes to make a Securicar catch fire. This I eventually converted into the Damage indication. The amount of rounds needed is also included in the description.

Type 1: Fists/Hands
Fists

Score: 2

These are your first weapons, obviously. You

can do combo moves when targeting. Press

O for a light attack, X for a heavy attack,

[ ] for a block, and /\ for grab.

Brass Knuckles

Score: 3

Just adds some more power to your punches.

Type 2: Melee Weapons
Knife

Score: 4

This basic weapon is okay. Powerful

enough to knock your opponent down

so that you can ram your knife into

him/her from above your head.

Baseball Bat

Score: 4

Another basic melee weapon, you can

easily knock your target off their feet

and finish them off on the ground.

Axe

Score: 4

Quite similar to the knife, although

perhaps a bit stronger.

Gaff Hook

Score: 4

A gaff hook. Similar to the baseball

bat. I don’t see any difference in power.

Machete

Score: 5

An awesome looking blade, this is

similar to the knife but stronger.

Katana

Score: 7

Probably the strongest melee weapon

in VCS, you can strike an opponent

once to kill him/her.

Chainsaw

Score: 6

Always knocks down the opponent, but

it's kinda glitchy. Doesn’t create those

sparks we all love.

. Butterfly Knife

Score: 4

Basically the same as the normal knife.

. Golf Club

Score: 5

A pretty strong weapon, similar to the

bat. But this one is a bit stronger.

. Nightstick

Score: 4

The weapon carried by police officers.

This is almost the same as the cane.

Type 3: Explosives/Thrown
. Molotovs

Score: 6

Aka Molotov Cocktails. A totally new

weapon compared to the previous GTAs.

Now the Molotov has an explosion

damage, along with the fire damage.

It’s pretty effective with vehicles, only

if you aim right.

. Grenade

Score: 6

A standard grenade. You can blow up

vehicles instantly, but only if your

accuracy is good. Normally, your throw

will make it catch fire.

. Remote Grenade

Score: 7

An awesome addition to the grenade,

you can blow it up when you want to.

To make it explode you use the

detonator. It’s pretty awesome to blow

a car up into the sky.

. Landmine

Score: 6

A cool new weapon in GTA. This

landmine will destroy anything that

walks/drives on it. The only drawback

is that you can’t control it like the

remote grenade. Only available

with CheatDevice.

. Teargas

Score: 4

A pretty useless weapon, since the

gas causes your vision to deteriorate

as well. Warning: this causes a huge

framerate drop! It’s also weird that

the hud icon is orange. Only available

with CheatDevice.

Type 4: Handguns
. Pistol

Damage: Low/Medium

Rate of Fire: Medium

The average (probably 9mm) pistol.

You can run with this weapon. It

takes 31 rounds to blow up a

Securicar.

. Equalizer

Damage: High

Rate of Fire: Low

A very strong weapon, except you

can’t run with it while firing. This

takes 6 rounds to blow up a

Securicar.

Image limit reached, continued next post. Edited by ybakker

Type 5: Shotguns
. Chrome Shotgun

Damage: Low

Rate of Fire: Medium

This is a standard shotgun. Isn’t

very strong, but it reloads at a

reasonable speed. It takes 4

rounds to blow up a Securicar.

. Stubby Shotgun

Damage: High

Rate of Fire: Low

The strongest shotgun of all VCS,

but it has a price: slow reloading.

It only takes 2 rounds to blow up

a Securicar.

. Spaz 12

Damage: Medium

Rate of Fire: High

This is probably the most advanced

shotgun, since it has the fastest

firing rate. This compensates the

medium damage it does. It takes 3

rounds to blow up a Securicar.

Type 6: Submachine guns
. Mac-10

Damage: Very Low

Rate of Fire: Medium

The weakest firearm in VCS, it takes 51

rounds to blow up a Securicar!! That’s

just stupid. Don’t get this weapon.

. Scorpion

Damage: Medium

Rate of Fire: Low

Based on the Skorpion vz61, this

submachine gun is pretty reasonable.

It has its advantages: you can run

while firing. And it has its disadvantages:

slower rate of fire. It takes 38 rounds

to blow up a Securicar.

. MicroSMG

Damage: Medium

Rate of Fire: Medium

A pretty decent smg based on the Uzi.

Like the Scorpion, it takes 38 rounds

to blow up a Securicar. And it’s firing

rate is better. But the major drawback

is that you can’t run while firing.

. SMG

Damage: High

Rate of Fire: High

The best SMG (even though you can’t

run while firing) based on the MP5.

This is the strongest smg, as it only

takes 22 rounds to blow up the

Securicar, the same as the AK.

Type 7: Assault Rifles
. AK

Damage: Medium

Rate of Fire: Medium-High

Based on the AK-47, it’s a pretty standard

and cheap weapon. A bit faster than the

M4 and the same strength as the SMG, it

takes 22 rounds to blow up a Securicar.

. Assault Rifle

Damage: High

Rate of Fire: Medium

A stupid name if you ask me, but that’s

what Ammunation calls it… It’s obviously

based on the M4 or M16. Stronger than

the AK, it takes 19 rounds to blow up a

Securicar.

Type 8: Heavy Weapons
. Rocket Launcher

Score: 8

This weapon is pretty sweet. You

can hold O so that you repeatedly

fire a rocket. You don’t have to

keep hitting O every time. It

destroys cars in no-time.

. Flame-Thrower

Score: 6

Pretty useless against cars, because

the fires on them go out soon

after you start them. But against

people on foot, this is a pretty good

weapon to keep them busy, while

you switch to your smg to finish em.

. M249

Damage: Very High

Rate of Fire: Medium

The strongest bullet firearm in VCS. It

blows up a Securicar in 6 rounds.

You can sprint while carrying this

weapon. It spawn at your safehouse

after you pop 99 balloons.

. Minigun

Damage: High

Rate of Fire: Very High

The fastest firing firearm in VCS.

It takes less time for things to blow

up than with the M249. Therefore,

it’s damage has been reduced. It

takes 8 rounds to blow up a

Securicar.

Type 9: Sniper Rifles
. Sniper

Damage: High

Rate of Fire: Low

A very slow weapon compared to

the laser sniper. But still it’s very

strong. There’s not a great need to

get the Laser Sniper instead of this one.

. Laser Sniper

Damage: High

Rate of Fire: High

You can shoot pretty fast if you

repeatedly hit O. The damage is

exactly the same as the regular

sniper. It takes 7 rounds to blow

up a Securicar.

Type 10: Items/Accessories
. Binoculars

A pretty nifty accessory that’s new

to VCS. You can look through them

with the R trigger, and zoom in

pretty far. If you press/hold O, Vic

will punch really fast, with no effect.

Probably another bug added to the

endless list.

. Camera

Another cool accessory. You look

through the viewfinder with R trigger

and take a picture with O. You can’t

save the pictures though.

. Detonator

Necessary to detonate the Remote

Grenade. Once you throw the grenade,

you are automatically forced to use it

as your only weapon. Hit O to

detonate it.

Weapons/Armor/Health Maps
Here is a map with the Weapons and Armor pickups in VCS. This should be all of them.

Note: The Sniper Rifle and Rocket Launcher spawn locations

on Starfish Island are unlocked once you finish the story

mission “From Zero to Hero” (after unlocking Ocean Beach,

Washington Beach, Vice Point, and Leaf Links).

.

Update: a new Health/Armor Map with only Health and armor pickups.

Here are a few other maps with only weapons or only armor:

Weapons Map

Armor Map (Use the health/armor map mentioned above.)

Excellent guide, ybakker! I didn't even know some of those weapons existed.

That said, I think adding the locations of the weapons would be the cherry on top to complete this guide. I'd really like to know where I can get the landmines and the mp5/SMG from. Cheers =]

You get the M249 from shooting 99 balloons. The laser sniper rifle is on the roof of the Washington Beach Police Station. I'm not sure you can get the teargas or the landmines without a cheatdevice, but does anyone know if you can get the binoculars or the camera outside of missions?

Minor update. Fixed a few typos, changed a score of a melee weapon. And mentioned that the Landmine and Teargas cannot be obtained without Cheatdevice.

Thanks to Blackadder18 and Mageezer for bossing me around suggesting that I should make a few notes.

I haven't found any spawns for the Camera or Binoculars yet. Anyone else have?

I'd like to make a map with weapon locations. Who'd like to help me out? Just post the locations and I'll make a Thanks to list. happy.gif

I could help pinpoint a few weapons - I know the locations of some already.

Thats weird, weapons being CD only. That must mean r* left the textures and animations in the game for the weapons, right? Since we can't input any models or anything into the game...

Does anyone know where the SMG is? Looking damn fine =]

Please do. smile.gif

I think they were directly ported from SA. Because the smoke effects of the teargas isn't perfected at all. The framerate just dives and the game is totally nonplayable... They couldn't of just made it from scratch. Otherwise it wouldve been better...

I'm getting a weapon location map ready, (with only 2 weapons on it, tounge.gif) so that anyone can add to it. (perhaps even download, edit, upload, and post here as well).

So if anyone knows any other locations, please post em.

Reminds me of my weapons topic I had back in the day. Oh well, it's much more organized and such. Good work I guess.

I'll never forget mine, with it's two gold stars. Oh well, out with the old, in with the new. Gives me more time to focus on "Say Cheese". smile.gif

Topic rated good.

Very good guide ybakker icon14.gif

Reading through some of the most recent posts I have the answers to some of the spawning questions for various weapons and tools.

I haven't found any spawns for the Camera or Binoculars yet. Anyone else have?

I remember finding the camera behind a building on Ocean Beach, it was one that had a pool and also had a rampage icon nearby. As for the binoculars go to the docked ship at by the docks, it’s tricky to get so use of a helicopter is recommended. On the top antenna situated on the highest cabin of the ship.

Does anyone know where the SMG is?

The SMG is at the end of Pier 2 at Ocean Beach.

Here's a map:

EDIT: Forgot to credit The Eclectic Elk for his great map!! Thanks a bunch!!

Thanks to saintdave and mageezer for various weapon locations on the map. Once we have at least one location for each weapon (except the landmine, teargas, etc.), I'll put the map on the first post. smile.gif

@Saintdave, I dunno where the camera location you mentioned is. Can you explain a bit more?

Please add to the list.

@cruisx, search for "All Weapons (36) (v2)" on the Vice City Stories "CheatSync" database.
