"[The Arshavin penalty claim] is debateable. But I think I'm owed a bit of luck when it comes to penalties against Arsenal."

Too right.

Oh yeah he deserves a bit of luck seeing what happened against Arsenal last time but there is no way it's debatable, stone wall.

Even if it was a pen. Arshavin wouldn't have scored that goal, so they still would've scored one.

And how would you know that?

Would of been easy just to callapse when going behind twice but the lads never caved in and had the confidence to come back. Conceding from a set peice again, we need to book our ideas up becuase it's taking the piss.

Do you think it was anything to do with the fact your opponents, as happened in over a quarter of your games last season, ended up with 10 men?

Not really, I would just call it scrabbling to try and justify why you would still have won with the penalty given anyway. You cannot say that Arshavin wouldn't have scored, he may not have scored from the same move, but he may have been motivated to score a second goal. So really that was just rubbish.

I'm a tad disappointed at the results, what can you do though. Arsenal played all over Man U and I swear Rooney dived to make that a penalty. There was no way he was going down by the tiny touch Almunia gave him..such a shame. I won't even bother starting about Diaby, god.

One good note though, Arshavin played pretty decent..wonderful goal.

Almunia had his arms outstretched. If Rooney hadn't dropped early he'd have done a face plant.

Lethal Nizzle

Definite penalty for Man U; the keeper couldn't have got the ball from that angle.

Unlucky with the Modric leg-break, but satisfied with the win. Decent display by Crouch and an awesome take by Lennon. Chelsea might be leading on GD but I'm pretty sure we'll overtake if we keep our form. Cardiff lost to Donny Rovers, and apparently we were awful. Hopefully we can get a better result in the coming league game and the Carling Cup draw against the Villans. wink.gif

Dave the Scottish nutter

After all the hype with Eduardo's dive...

Aiden McGeady dives, get's sent off, and Killen also dive's (both play for Celtic btw)

You couldn't make sh*t like that up.

Incredible.

Yeah, or Foster might have saved the penalty and United won 3-0. If scoring demotivates Arshavin to the extent that he can't score another goal then Arshavin should take a long look at himself.

Same sh*t different season.

We come back the first time to make it 1-1 when each team had 11 men so no. Doesn't matter if the team has 11 men or 10 men, when going goals down you still need the determination and not to give up.

At the end of the day neither of us have the ability to know what the score would have been, if a pen would have been awarded, and Rooney's dive had been found out, so lets not bother arguing about it.

I saw that tackle yesterday. Holy f*ck, that is messed. To be honest, it didn't look deliberate, it was just a tackle that was really badly timed, with unfortunate circumstances.

Ouch. That's nasty.

The team in black's number 11 looks well in shock.

Cisse's was weird a few years back, his snapped in two places and he didn't even get touched, just snapped when he turned.

I hate it when the TV networks replay injuries in slow motion. I usually turn over if they do. Remember feeling pretty sick a few years back when Alan Smith had a nasty one for United against Liverpool.

Just watching the Newcastle - Leicester match on Sky Sports 1. Nicely taken goal by Danny Guthrie and, although I've only caught the second half, Nile Ranger is doing a pretty good job up front. I hope he gets more chances now that our forward line is lacking so much. Ameobi shouldn't be out for too long, I don't think. Carroll's out too, and Xisco is apparently heading to Racing Santander for a season-long loan. Our attacking options are very limited, coming to think of it.

Haris Vuckic is coming on to replace Nile Ranger for the last five minutes, he's supposed to be a pretty good, up-and-coming talent. Ryan Donaldson has replaced Guthrie too, I think he's supposed to be pretty decent too. Our youth academy isn't all that great though; very few people of note have came through.

Also, gah, pretty sickening leg break there. I saw a pretty disgusting one a while ago from an African game, I think it was.

Transfer day! Whos going where?

I think Everton will sign...nobody. Due to the fact they refuse to pay more than the minimum wage.

Ronaldo's gonna go back to United, hurhur. tounge.gif

I'm just asking this as a general question, but does anyone think that the global financial crisis has had much of an impact on tranfers throughout Europe? It's had an alarming effect on Formula One, so much so that they've practically changed the sport in a whole new direction, but if the world's economies keep heading downwards (which some people predict might still happen), will that have a big impact on money within football, and an impact on football as business overall?

I don't think the "Economic Crisis" will have much of an effect on Football in the long term, Formula 1 is affected as for a long time it has been bloated with finance deals and massive sponsorship deals with a few select companies that are are multi-national, F1 does have a wider audience and a higher class of audience as well. Yes football does have it's Upper Class fans but most of the fans are proper working class folk so sponsors will be those who can target most of the fanbase of that particular club which will be working class folk. A good example being how many football teams do Rolex sponsor.

Football on the other hand does have it's fair share of multi-national backing but a lot of it is also local and small company based, you also have to look at what companies are sponsoring and what financial sector they are in. Take United for example their sponsor AIG has been screwed because of this climate and are therefore suspending their involvement with United shortly, whereas other teams that are sponsored by either Alcohol companies or betting firms are not doing to bad as they are only going to suffer short term effects of the economy.

So since most of the money comes from sponsorship and not gate money Football shouldn't be badly affected.

Other news Transfer deadline day is here and City might be signing Bentley but that seems to be about it.

Pretty boring final day. News up here was that a big signing was going to be made but nothing. The Ribery to City were gathering pace but nothing.

Everton got Johnny Heitinga. Mixed reviews about him. A lot of Dutch not having much faith in him, we will have to see.

Stupid international break... mad.gif
