Platini MIGHT have criticised the Kaka deal, BUT, will he do anything about it? I think not. Its like Madrid is the 'King' club. Sure they have most Champion league titles , doesn't mean they are the best currently. I also don't know why if, man utd want to buy a player, it is their dream to play for Madrid.

1. Madrid were targetting Valencia. Also took away Beckham, Ruud, Heinze and Ronaldo who were in Man utd.

2. Sure manchester united did not bid for benz, but what if we were about to? The disgrace bid for him, wanting every player man utd goes for. Typical.

3. About real madrid getting money off sponsors, TV bla bla bla bla bla bla. Why, when Calderon was in charge, he didn't make many BIG signings. Perez bought Beckham, Figo, Zidane, R Carlos, fat Ronaldo, Kaka, Ronaldo, Benzema and surely many more. Why wasn't Calderon able to do that? Cannavaro, Emerson and Ruud and Robben. These 4 players are nothing compared to the galactios.

4. Platini and Blatter have an important word in football, presidents of UEFA and FIFA respectively. If both of them weren't Real Madrid supporters, they would have made a transfer rule. A transfer rule that states a club has X amount of cash for each window. Or atleast something like that.

1. Valencia? So, the slightest rumor makes him a target, wow, his position is the least Madrid has to worry about when there's Robben, Cristiano now, Van Der Vaart and even Sneijder can play there. They took away Beckham, Ruud and Heinze... RVN said he left Man Utd because of some issues with CR. Heinze, is he really important in any way? Beckham... I think Man Utd themselves chose to sell him to Madrid rather than Barcelona because he was linked heavily with them during the time. Plus is it really forbidden to buy from Man Utd or what? Because the way you say it sounds like if they "take away" important players they are stealing or something. No, they PAY for the transfer to happen. Currently Man Utd should be sitting on some good amount of money from the Ronaldo transfer so I don't see what they have to worry about.

 

2. Just because Man Utd are linked to him, no other team is able to show interests? You seem to have bias towards who you support guessing this way, but then again, who doesn't? Although I admit it, I wouldn't go around criticizing teams for buying my favorite players or whatever.

 

3. "Able"? Maybe Calderon didn't feel like it. Perez promised a new start for Real and that's what we have come to.

 

4. Yeah, indeed they do. But I don't see why there should be a transfer rule. I mean Man Utd can also get themselves 1000 million pounds and then go ahead and buy every world class player there is. I could care less. Spending too much money is a ridiculous statement, there's no rules regarding it, as we are saying Real should be limited to amount of players they can buy, should that also apply to Chelsea, Man City and other "big spenders"?

The amount of cash a team gets is none of Platini or Blatter's concern. Plus one of the posters above stated that Platini criticized Madrid's spending on Kaká, indeed he did. But does that mean anything? Not really, teams are allowed to do what they want as long as both teams agree.

1. Is Valencia a well known player/big name player? NO!!!!!!! Madrid only sign KNOWN players. I don't get why they would want a less known winger. They have the best winger, Ronaldo, why Valencia? Clearly shows their obsession with Man utd.

1. Ever heard of Scouts? Before a player even becomes famous, you can bet your ass the big clubs already have someone scouting him and assessing his potential. And in the end, who cares? If United has the money, they can buy whoever they want as well.

 

2. So Perez had to check what was Manchester United looking to bid on instead of, oh let's say, LOOKING AT THE FRENCH LEAGUE FOR A HOT PROSPECT?

Because, you know, the world DOESN'T revolve around Manchester United and NO CLUB is out to ruin every Manchester United plan. And, you do know, REAL MADRID LIKE ANY BIG CLUB HAS SCOUTS ALL OVER THE WORLD. So for all we know, they could be watching Benzema for a couple years now. We'll never know.

 

3. Simple, Calderon had a different way of building a squad. Just like Arsene Wenger prefers to buy young players and develop them, Perez likes to buy huge stars and try to make them work, and Calderon prefers buying good players whose egos won't clash. So that's way Wenger buys the likes of Denilson, while Perez buys the likes of Ronaldo, Kaka, Zidane and friends, and Calderon prefers to buy great players like Robben, Sneijder etc. Just because Real have the money doesn't mean they have to blow it all. Get it?

 

4. Restrictions are bullsh*t, if the club can spend that much on one player, let them, if they go bankrupt, it's their problem. Plus, more money is invested into the game, money is eventually shared better among clubs, like say Real paid 80m for Ronaldo, United goes on and pays 30m for a player from a smaller club. The smaller club will be happy, United will be happy, Real will be happy, and the players will be happy. Get it?

Not to mention, Real Madrid is the most prestigious club in Europe, with the most glorious history (9 champs leagues, some 30 odd la ligas, etc) so you can't really blame a player for wanting to go to the most prestigious club.

There's a lot of rubbish being spoken here. I've noticed that people only ever talk of restrictions on transfer budgets when their team is getting outbid. I've never heard of a Chelsea fan doing it when they were big spending, a City fan doing it in the last year, a United fan doing it when we were spending £50m in one year etc. You can't impose limitations of that nature because it is not workable. If you say 'each club's budget is only £50m for fair play', Leyton Orient will come out and say 'we don't have £50m it should be £500k instead, for fair play'. United are the biggest club in the Premier League, so we can have our pick of most of the rest of the League's players, particularly Spurs, Real Madrid are the biggest club in the World, they can have their pick of most of the rest of World's players, particularly United.

 

It's f*cking sh*t when you're on the receiving end of it, but chatting about restrictions and such is extraordinarily hypocritical.

 

Ps. the sooner Blatter's out of a job, the better. Platini's a good man though.

I think Man utd can easily afford the transfer and the wages, plus they are a good bet for a few trophies.

I really hope Ribery doesn't come to Madrid. We already have Robben in the same position and I don't think he's any worse. Xabi Alonso might possibly be the last major signing this season along with Arbeloa who is another addition to the defense. How often are you going to get a fully fit Owen, Newcastle's training and medical facilities couldn't of been that bad, at 29 his body is starting to give him problems which we now have all seen. He's way, way past his best and he's never going to get back to his heights or anywhere near them. Often finds himself isolated in games but that could of been down to Newcastle's play.

 

Owen's game relied on pace and he hasn't got that any more.

 

Maybe go down as a free transfer but is it really a free considering his possible high wage demands and dodgy legs, could end up just paying for nothing.

If they want to get Owen, then fair enough, but he won't score that many goals for them, I really rate the guy, but he is just too injury prone for any club to want to pay anything more than nothing for. At least in the top flight anyway. That is not to say that I wouldn't love to see him playing for Bristol City though...
