I'm not going to lie, I was kind of...sad inside when the US beat Spain yesterday as I was hoping to see two of the greatest footballing nations in the world go head-to-head in the Confederations Cup final, but Spain were severely off form and the US took advantage of that (just like Pakistan in the ICC Twenty/20, they decided to turn up when it matters...). Spain looked disjointed and tired as they took to continually working the ball down the wings instead of fluidly playing it through the middle like usual. Casillas and Ramos made two fatal mistakes, but that's all it takes in football, one mistake to turn the game around in completely towards another sides favour!

 

Oh, and we'll have less of the s-word please in here guys, you may us asterisk if you wish to use the word, e.g. s****r, but this is the Footy Desk, so we'll be referring to it as Greatest Most Awesomist Brilliant Memorizing Sport Ever Created In The History Of Man or simply Football...

I find that comment a little funny as it is the exact opposite of what my team tends todo: Italy takes the ball down the middle and doesn't play the wings much. Going to the wings opens the game up. It all depends what the opposing team is playing defensively. Obviously myself being an Italian supporter I would love to see South Africa take a win over Brazil.

Does the crowd in the Brazil-South Africa game have a problem with Booth, he looks like the only white fella in the South African team and every time he gets the ball he gets boo'd.

 

Also the sound of those horns seems to have got a lot quieter then when the tournament first started which is a positive.

I wish Canada would bid for a WC (and win) so I can goto games. (We had the U20 a few years back) Argentina won that and it was a blast to see.

To see Canada get a World Cup would be a dream come true for me, though tickets would probably be ridiculously expensive, especially at BMO.

Brazil was completely rubbish through the entire match, struggling like hell, South Africa lacked the quality to put the chances away.. Really undeserved. I really hope USA pulls out a number on them on the final.

The game was evenly matched and it came down to a free kick. My dad said it was a questionable call but I missed it so I can't argue. I wish the outcome was different too. Right now The USA cap goes on and I hope they can beat Brazil to take the confederation cup! I hope to see South Africa beat Spain too.

Well I got to see 10 games with 3 tickets per game at $300 Cdn for the Under 21. That's $10 a Ticket. I was also Front Row to the side of one goal. Now of course that is not as big as normal world cup so I'm sure the price would increase tremendously. (I got to see USA beat Brazil 2-1!)

I think it was a stupid tackle to make, and not undeserved of a free kick in my opinion.

Brazil's midfield was pretty awful today. Did Melo, Ramires or Gilberto do anything of note all game? I mean aside from Ramires diving to get the FK for Alves to score. I was wondering why Dunga didn't make a change, but who are the other CM's in Brazil's squad? Maybe Elano, maybe Pato and go straight 4-4-2? Robinho reminds me of a shorter, fatter Denilson, step on the ball a few more times, Robby...Maicon was also pretty bad today.

 

South Africa with a real striker (ahem: Benni McCarthy...) could be dangerous. Tshimbala (spelling?), Pienaar and Modise looked quite zippy. Their fullbacks looked useful as well.

 

Albiol is a pretty good signing for Madrid, he's just been under the radar at Valencia and hasn't featured much on the national team. I think it's a good signing for them because they need some quality in central defense with Cannavaro leaving, Metzelder seemingly out of favor, and Pepe seemingly with borderline personality disorder.

Shame Hart got booked and now will miss the final, what did he do to get booked. Agbonlahor and Campbell are also suspended for the final.
