Tim Howard was brilliant, our entire defense was. It was absolutely shocking at first because our defense in the group stages was godawful and hopeless.

 

Sure we parked the bus for most of the second half, but still somehow kept it together. I'm starting to love Davies as well, haven't seen a whole lot of him lately.

 

Having Bradley getting sent off isn't going to help though

Marca is one of the most factious and unbalanced sports newspaper in Europe.

There are more reliable sources than spanish newspapers.

I wish Italy had scored atleast 1 goal in their loss to Brazil as they would have advanced. However since that did not happen I am happy to see the USA advance only to beat Spain too. I hope they win the tourny as it may do wonders for soccer (football) in North America more so than David Beckham.

 

Italy definately needs to sharpen up their team and Buffon one of the highest paid GK needs to regain composure for WC'10.

UEFA's under 21 team looks better than our Internatinal squad.

 

WC'06 no regular goal was scored on Italy all were either Own Goals or PK's.

Here in Brazil, Julio Cesar, I think, said that the problem with Italy is what they call the "Senators", the old more famous italian players (Toni, Pirlo, Zambrotta, etc) who are always called no matter what. And that there's great talent in Italy youth, but it's never getting the callups because of said famous italian players who aren't that great anymore.

It is true but they are starting to get out of that stage with Rossi not to be confused with De Rossi. Lippi however does not want to introduce 7 young players at once he wants to slowly integrate them into the team. I just hope Italy does not get embarrassed in WC'10. I also hate when they allow Pirlo to take a 4th free kick after the first 3 failed. I like him and he can curve the ball but as of late nothing and if we can give others a chance then we should do so. 2014 WC is in Brazil I'd love to go into that tied with # of World Cups and meet Brazil in the Final. I wish Canada would bid for a WC (and win) so I can goto games. (We had the U20 a few years back) Argentina won that and it was a blast to see.

That is a poor excuse. That is saying Italy is getting too old they can't play a full 90 mintues. Every player on the team should be able to play a full match as they all have a 3/11 chance of being subbed. They better condition themselves before WC'10 to defend the cup. They looked at Rossi now they should focus on Aquafresca. They also need to Drill Buffon harder.

I'm not going to lie, I was kind of...sad inside when the US beat Spain yesterday as I was hoping to see two of the greatest footballing nations in the world go head-to-head in the Confederations Cup final, but Spain were severely off form and the US took advantage of that (just like Pakistan in the ICC Twenty/20, they decided to turn up when it matters...). Spain looked disjointed and tired as they took to continually working the ball down the wings instead of fluidly playing it through the middle like usual. Casillas and Ramos made two fatal mistakes, but that's all it takes in football, one mistake to turn the game around in completely towards another sides favour!

Yeah, 35 games unbeaten internationally, if they would have beaten you they would have broken a record for most consecutive international games without defeat, second semi final on tonight, will be tuning in, come on South Africa!! Want USA to win overall now, after dumping Italy and Spain out.

Any interest is better than none at all. It's lonely being a footy fan here, you see. International matches are the only time I can actually talk football with other friends. They go "huh?" at anything else.

 

This South Africa and Brazil match coming, it's pretty much a mismatch, and not the same way from yesterdays match. I think we're much higher rated than South Africa, but we'd definitely prefer to play them in the final

 

Should be easy for Brazil, but then again thats the same thing I said about Spain yesterday, so....
