It's just a game to me.

"Some people believe football is a matter of life and death. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that."

Was that at Liverpool's and Chelsea's defending or something else?

The tie in general.

Can't see how the game was funny.

A really cracking Champions League game, second half it was end to end and will probably go down as one of the best ties, although unfortunately slightly ruined by Drogba's antics and simulation.

And what's with the spam and double posts?

Watching the highlights of the game, even though I watched it live. Saw the penalty call, and it seemed that Alonso leapt up a bit when he was grabbed; nonetheless, even if he didn't jump, it would've been a PK.

Mascherano didn't dive/simulate? I think he was a little rough but apart from that, it was Drogba doing the double tuck and pikes. wink.gif

Just trying a bit of 'wumming' there myself tounge.gif.

The worst antic he did was feigning injury in the opening 5 minutes-ish and pretending to be injured and lying off the pitch and as the ref didn't go over to him as he was off the pitch, he decides to roll onto it and the ref then stops the game. The ref comes over and then he seems fine. That was his test IMO to see how leinant(?) the ref was and after that some of the sh*t he done mad.gif.

Masch may of had a few dodgy tackles but nothing as bad as Drogba.

The bias against Drogba in commentary tonight was fairly obscene I thought. The boy Torres is "injured" at least once a game. There are players in virtually every team in the country just as bad as him, he is just the new scapegoat for everyone.

Magnificent game - best I've seen in at least 6 years - what are the chances that both teams choose to play without a defence in the same game? Hopefully there will be less people now arguing that Gerrard is the amazing godlike lynchpin of Liverpool's attack, or better than Lampard for that matter, and that Cech and Reina are the best goalkeepers in the world. Lampard was excellent by the way.

Ps. Drogba is a disgrace, there is no doubt about that. The worst offender in terms of cheating in the Premiership by some distance IMO.

I guess it's times like these neutrals wish Terry etc hadn't got in the way of Vidic after this:

He'd of taught that sh*t Drogba a thing or too about respect.

But then United have Ronaldo and *ahem* Neville (seriously, what was he thinking) in their team so not really in a position to make comments about sh*theads like Drogba.

Wholeheartedly agree.

Fact is, that's the way he plays, we've all come to accustom to his style, and are used to the snide antics he performs. But constantly bickering about him in every post, and being completely oblivious to the fact that he was immense last night is beyond me. He was quiet in the first half, but every single time he got on the ball in the second-half, I was expecting a goal-scoring opportunity to arise, one way or another. The goal he scored was down to his strength, grit and determination. He had me gasping when he shot the free-kick wide. He showed fantastic strength to hold the ball up and win Chelsea the free-kick scored by Alex. He showed great strength again to out-muster Carragher, get the ball into the box and create a gaping opportunity for Ballack. He was truly menacing for the third goal, exploiting the gap in defence, completely wrong-footing skrtel and setting up Lampard for Chelsea's third. And he played a part in the fourth goal, holding onto the ball, feeding it to Anelka who then fed it to Lampard. He was a major threat to Liverpool's defence, and, on a few occasions, tore them apart. Yes, he dives and often feigns injury (Like Cristiano Ronaldo, Steven Gerrard and the likes), but can't you Liverpool supporters see how well he performed last night, in the second half at least...? His sheer presence has returned under Guus Hiddink, and he's on fire! I just feel that a bit of criticism towards him, with no clear recognition for his secon-half performance is a little unfair.

Onto the match itself... wow! What a thriller! I pretty much echo the sentiments made by folks; it's one of the greatest games I've witnessed in recent years. End-to-end stuff, the game could have finished 6-6! I really didn't want it to end, you had the impression that on every single attack, for both teams, that there was going to be a goal. Liverpool were going through. Then Liverpool were down and out. Then Liverpool were going through again. Then Liverpool were down and out again. Real edge-of-the-seat stuff, even for the neutral supporter! A fantastic tie, one that really eclipses the beauty of football. Now, which twats were unhappy that Liverpool and Chelsea got drawn against each other yet again...? tounge.gif

Moving on, in regards to the Young Player of the Year award. I think it has to go to Steven Ireland. What a transformation he has had from last season. It's like watching a different, much more technical and skillful footballer. He's City's joint top-scorer, and puts in 110% every single match. He provides the assists, creates space and is always an option. I was a bit surprised he wasn't in the run-in for the big award, until I realised just how young he was. I hope we wins it, he doesn't deserve to be an unsung hero. He's been the best City player this season, without a shadow of a doubt.

Oh, we can acknowledge his good performance. The thing is, cheating eclipses talent. It always does, and that's often what you'll get remembered for.

It sure does. I absolutely despise any footballer who cheats in any way, form or measure, it puts a real hindrance on the game, and I do not see the need for World-class players, a la Drogba, to do such a thing. I'm just a little confused that while cheating does eclipse great talent (To a certain degree I might add), not one Liverpool player has praised him for the good things he did in the second half. In my opinion, it is worth noting just as much as his negative side of the game.

Also, girishb, I'm not calling you a bad supporter at all here, but it certainly comes across as peculiar if you didn't watch the second-half of the game. I assume you don't get the opportunity to watch Chelsea week-in, week-out, no? So, if you get the chance to watch this, one of the biggest games of the season, why would you simply.. not tune in to the second-half and view the coverage on the Internet? Surely you could have saw how legendary the match was by the uproar in this topic, it just bemuses me why you would do that. I don't think I've ever heard of any supporter who would stop watching their beloved team, when they have a fantastic opportunity to do so. I'd watch Nottingham Forest 'til the death, no matter what.

I watch Bristol City to the death aswell, on the internet when i can. But our games are really entertaining in the last 5 minutes. In the last 5 minutes of the last few games we have:

    • Made a goalkeeping error, and thrown away 3 points. 1-1 vs Cardiff.
    • Had a player sent off, and conceded 2 goals, to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. 3-2 vs Forest.
    • Given away a penalty with the last kick of the game to give away 2 points. 1-1 vs Ipswich.

Drogba has always done it but like its been said, He wont stop.

None of them will and all teams have them. Apart from Everton.

Was a cracking game, Liverpool were very unlucky but the first leg...Chelsea deserved to go through.

Whos confident they will beat barca?

Jesus Christ, that is a very tough ask! Considering how Barca have performed this season, but also taking into consideration the English teams dominance in the Champions League, that includes over Barcelona (Man United last season, Chelsea a few seasons back), I think it's safe to say that it will be a tough, closely fought encounter.

I only hope it will be as entertaining as last night. Barca have, arguably, the fiercest attacking force on Earth, but Chelsea have one of the most formidable defense on Earth, even though they have been a little shaky as of late (At least Cole will be missing the first leg!).

Bring it on is all I can say!

I always think the English teams trouble the Spanish, and Italians. They never know exactly how to play us. Chelsea will play well against Barca, I think it will be a very close game.

I thought that whoever went through last night would have beaten Barcelona, but after watching the suicide defending and goalkeeping from both sides I think Barca are nailed on if they play like that.

That's become increasingly evident over the years. When English teams go to play the big European teams, quite often people assume that the foreign teams, Like Inter Milan and Barcelona, will be too tough for the English teams, because of how they've been performing both domestically and in the Champions League. But when they do face English teams, the majority fail to step up to the plate. The English teams have dominated over recent years becuase foreign teams don't know how to handle them. I think it's great! And want it to continue for years to come.

As for tonight, I can see United either storming it, and coming away as comfortable winners, or I can see the game deadlocked at 0-0 or 1-1,with Porto sneaking through. I'm confident Arsenal will go through though, with the recent player returns to form, I think they may hold off Villarreal and come away with a clean sheet. Only time will tell though...

I don't know why but I feel more confident that we have a chance of going through against Barca than we did against Liverpool. If anyone is suited to beat them it would be us. I wouldn't fancy Puyol and co. to cope with the strength of Drogba which is more absent in Spanish football. Also our aerial dominance could prove key. God knows who we will be playing at left-back Ferreira is out for the season our only other left back. Maybe Belletti can play there? I wouldn't bet against Essien going there. As the commentator said last night something key in Messi's game is cutting inside which is more easy to do against a left footed opponent so maybe it will work to our advantage.

Wonder if somebody is gonna step up tonight and be our Keane-of-Turin. Rooney, I'm looking at you. 2-1 to United tonight I'm guessing with a nervy last 20 minutes.

Barca are beatable, they're a team that throw it all into attack. If Hiddink can pull off another tactical masterstroke like he did at Anfield by cutting players like Xavi and Iniesta out of the game they have a very good chance.

Flesh-n-Bone

I can easily hope and guess Chelsea wins Barcelona. Even though they luckily (with Liverpool's awful defense on second half) beat us for the second time in a row in CL, I still prefer them over Barca any day of the week. Barca is my most hated team ever.

Also, go Porto, I bet you will do well! I hope so.

Luck? where was that? Chelsea outclassed Liverpool in the first leg, and were too strong for them in the second leg. You say Chelsea were lucky because of Liverpool's defence, so.. what does that make Liverpool? Unlucky because Chelsea's defence was equally as bad...?

Well, 8 goals and 8 pints down at my local was a brilliant night for a neutral. icon14.gif

Although it literally pains me to see Chelsea doing well, god knows I try and be happy for them but they're just so damn annoying. Nevertheless it was a fantastic match and one that will go down as an epic in the annals of Champion's League football, however you have to call into question the suspect 'keeping. I thought neither Cech or Reina came out of that match looking good. Defending was also virtually non-existant for both sides.

A brilliant match but one I thought Liverpool should have gone on to win given their 1st half performance. They were dominant but didn't take their chances....*cough*Skrtel*cough* tounge.gif

The facebook statuses of the Chelsea fans are doing my head in though.
