Manchester United players dominate the nominees to be crowned PFA Players' Player of the Year, with five of the six contenders hailing from the current Premier League leaders.

Edwin van der Sar, Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs and last year's winner Cristiano Ronaldo are in the hunt for the prize, with Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard representing the rest of the Premier League.

wow, not a bad line up for Man Utd.

Gerrard will probably win it, he has the advantages that a) He is one of two English Players; b) He's had a better season than Ferdinand due to Rio's injuries; c) He will split the United vote, similarly to how David Ginola managed to become Player of the Year in 1999 ahead of the likes of Keane, Scholes, Beckham, Stam etc.

By the way, Rooney's been better than any of those players this season except Vidic.

there are a couple players I'm surprised about not being that 6.

Dunno why Ronaldo is in it though, i would of gone with Rooney instead of Ronnie. If Liverpool win the league it will go to Gerrard but if United win the league then it will probably end up going to Vidic, regardless of 'those' two performances he's been solid.

Giggs deserves to be up there; the way he has reinvented himself in the centre has been pretty awesome. I think recent performances from Vidic will have done him no favours but I hope thems who vote see past this cause for the rest of the season he had been head and shoulders above te rest.

Hope Ronnie doesn't win it. His ego is big enough as it is.

Being a United fan, Ronaldo should not win it even though he is the top scorer with Anelka in the EPL. As Sikks66 also said that. I have a gut feeling gerrard will win it though.

Voting is done before the League season ends. Regardless, the entire United squad wll be forced to vote for Gerrard, as you can't vote for someone from your own club.

Vidic should win it. He's been solid all season, he deserves it more than Ronaldo. He's been sh*t this season compared to last.

There's me not reading again, i only read the nominations and didn't realise it was the PFA Players' Player of the Year blush.gif.

The United fans will have to vote for Gerrard but all the Evertonian's wont vote for him, so there's a few votes to Vidic lol. Oh and maybe the Liverpool players can work together and spread out their votes evenly.

Can they abstain?

As opposed to them voting fairly, and deciding who they actually think has been the best player out of those selected? I'm not sure if I'm following you here, but are you saying that maybe the players will vote evenly for United players, so that all five contenders get little votes, giving the advantage to Gerrard? If that's the case then don't you think that's a bit unsporting?

If it's not the case then you've lost me. blush.gif

I think the winners of the Championship will be decide after the very last whistle is blown; the following information shows how some high-flying teams have quite a few tough games to get through to retain their lead, and some of the other contenders have an "easy" run.

Wolves: QPR (H), Barnsley (A), Doncaster (H)

Birmingham: Watford (A),Preston (H), Reading (A)

Sheff. Utd: Burnley (A), Swansea (H), Crystal Palace (A)

Reading: Barnsley (H), Derby (A), Norwich (A), Birmingham (H)

Cardiff: Preston (A), Charlton (A), Ipswich (H)*, Sheff. Wednesday (A)

Burnley: Sheff. Utd (H), S'oton (A), Bristol City (H)

The very same biggrin.gif

Although i was messing, i doubt the Liverpool players would be that sad and sit at a table organising who votes for who biggrin.gif.

PFA Young Player of the Year award nominations:

  • Gabriel Agbonlahor (Villa)
  • Jonny Evans (Man Utd)
  • Stephen Ireland (Man City)
  • Rafael Da Silva (Man Utd)
  • Aaron Lennon (Spurs)
  • Ashley Young (Villa)

I'd like to see Evans win it because he's come from relative obsecurity at the start of the season to a vital squad player. Agbonlahor will probably win it though. Stephen Ireland has proven himself a good player in a club obsessed with some lazy, overpaid mercenary who probably couldn't care less.

I'd disagree with Agbonlahor winning it, Even if he's a villa player. I'd go for either Stephen Ireland or Ashley Young as i think they've both contributed massively to there team at some part of the season. Ashley young being a major part of the team at such a young age & coming in from a Championship side.

Aaron Lennon deserves a shout, he's been quality this year.

I don't rate him at all to be honest. He just runs and runs and runs with the ball and then kicks it to the opoosing goalkeeper, or out for a goal kick. On a good day he might win a corner.

I don't think he does, coming from a Spurs fan here; he is fast as anything, very skillful, but what irks me with him is his final ball, or lack of the final ball. He always outpaces himself and never manages to deliver the right cross in.

I can see Evans snatching the award, or Young.

Ireland's in with a very good shout at winning the young player award, had an amazing first bit of the season, died down a little bit and now he's slowly getting back up again. I think he's got 2 goals in 2 games now.

Rafael? Who as played what? 10 games? Ahead of someone like Mikel who has played a large part in our season. And how Giggs is in the main award is beyond me. Surely there should be a minimum game limit on nominees. Much rather would have seen Alonso or Lampard ahead of him.

Thats f*cking amazing, for a player as great as him you would of thought he would have somewhere along the line. He's one of the Man U players I have a great deal of respect for.

I'm amazed he hasn't won it either, although he did win two youth ones so add them together and you get one big one tounge.gif.

Who seen Drogba then?, falls over and pretends to be injured and as he was off the pitch he decides to roll onto it so the ref stops play, what a disgrace icon13.gif.

This is mental. I'm bouncing off the f*cking walls here.

Edit: Tell you what, I'd have given Ivanovic a penalty there.

Dammit, why does Chelsea have to f*ck up every time I watch a match on TV!? mad.gif

I only have one word for Chelsea's first half performance though - pathetic. I mean I did expect them to go a little defensive, but they really overdid it here and it totally backfired. Horrendous passes, giving away possession, slow running; seriously, this does not look like the team that played at Anfield last week.

And what the f*ck was Ivanovic thinking grabbing Alonso like that in the box? Stupid, stupid thing to do. I'm so pissed off at him right now. The first goal by Aurelio was a stunner though; I'll give that to him.
