I'm absolutely chuffed.

 

We had to win that game to have any real chance of survival. And with Norwich winning as well, I'm a very happy man. We now sit only a point behind Saints, and ultimately avoiding the drop.

No, they beat Boca Juniors in last year's final. Apparently whenever Ancelotti was questioned on Milan's horrendous league campaign and failure to win any other silverware he would respond "But we are World Champions".

Well sort of, it's complicated.

 

From the 60s up until about 2004 there was the Intercontinental Cup, which put the Winners of the European Cup and Copa Libertadores against each other, with the winners being 'World Champions' although no other confederations teams were involved, and the club was not recognised as World Champions by FIFA.

 

In 1999 United qualified for the Intercontinental Cup, and were invited to the World Club Championship, which has a very similar trophy to the one we just won, totally different format though, 2 Group stages, Final was contested between 2 Brazilian teams. We played the one off match, and won it, and pulled out of the FA Cup to play in the World Club Championship, and went out almost immediately. The one we've just won today was the Club World Cup, and is basically set up to ensure a Final between the European and South American Champions. While FIFA see it as the same tournament as the one we pulled out of the FA Cup, it's really an expanded and recognised version of the Intercontinental.

Anyway, you might only miss one match while being in Japan but that will leave you 2 games in hand in the Prem, then you've got the two Carling Cup semi finals aswell as the F.A cup starting soon. That's going to be a big fixture congestion in and around Christmas time.

 

Good to see Keane score again and makes us level, hopefully we can kick on and grab a couple of goals. But that will be pretty tough to do just playing on counter attacks.

Whether United won it or not they are the best team there.

Whether we won the CL Final or not we were the best team there (by virtue of being league Champions), it meant everything at the time though.

 

 

Anyway, you might only miss one match while being in Japan but that will leave you 2 games in hand in the Prem, then you've got the two Carling Cup semi finals aswell as the F.A cup starting soon. That's going to be a big fixture congestion in and around Christmas time.

 

Carling Semis are in midweeks and against Championship teams, every top team has FA Cup games. We have a perfectly normal Christmas period, we'll play the two home games against Wigan and Fulham in other midweeks in the new year, they shouldn't prove too taxing.

Well of course every trophy is worth winning because it's silverware but getting a team to travel 14 hours to Japan to play two games against two mediocre(sp?) sides, that's pointless.

 

Fabregas off injured at half time and Liverpool are supposedly dominating, just hope we can do something with this dominance and not let Arsenal grab another goal.
