Oh come on Moncai! I expected more from you.

Tell me you weren't one of the twats with their shirts off. The atmosphere (surprisingly for Chelsea as of late) was very good today.

Great to see the rest of the top 4 drop points this week. As it really helped us even though we should of beaten Hull on Saturday. Plus United have to go away to Japan knowing there last game was a 0-0 draw so they have to ponder that for a few weeks. Hope it effects them in Japan and they win jacksh*t.

Yes, well I suppose it is normal for fans of lesser clubs to want more important teams to do badly in competitions their team was not good enough to qualify for. By the way, we are only in Japan for a week.

I know your only there for a week but you dont play again till Boxing day. Oh and lesser club? Still the most succesful English club in the league and the Champion league aswell.

@kie, Liverpool and Chelsea drop points where as United gain a good point away, don't be silly. Everyone here knows United should be beating Tottenham and you have also dropped 2 points.

A draw at Spurs is a normal result. Chelsea and Arsenal dropped points to them at home this season, Liverpool were defeated there, ourselves and Chelsea drew there last season. Dropping points at home to anyone I would find worrying, a draw at WHL is an average result.

Only miss one game, I doubt the players will be having nightmares about a draw at a difficult away fixture as they try to become World Champions. Also, you are not the most successful team in the Champions League, given that you have only won it once, you have won the most European Cups of any English team. You may think I'm just being picky but the current format is far more difficult to win than in the days where teams regularly racked up 3 European Cups in 5 years.

Yes, you are being picky and you can't in any way use that as an argument, so stop being so full of yourself.

You cannot say we have only won the CL once, yes we've only done it once in the present format but we did it four times in the old format you still class those victories wheter the name of the cup is different now than it was then. So i guessing by going by your logic that Real Madrid has only won it three times and not nine ? Am i right ?

Plus the old cup was harder to enter than win because you had to win the league you couldnt finish 2nd, 3rd or 4th and still get in. You call it being picky i call it stupidity.

Lol, of course I wasn't. But we brought the atmosphere, no offence but I didn't hear a single sustained Chelsea song. We were just going mental, I had a great day out and lost my voice. smile.gif

Anyway, keithtotheworld, do you set out to get up people's noses? If so you're very good at your job. I personally think your arguments against Liverpool are unfounded. They're an extremely successful team with a great fanbase and decades of tradition. You're just blinkered by the history which exists between Man Utd and Liverpool and therefore can't appreciate them as the great footballing side they are.

It is a fact that you have only won the Champions League once. If you had told someone you'd won the Champions League prior to 1990 no-one would know what you were talking about. The name of the cup is the same, you have won the European Champions Clubs Cup (the trophy) 5 times, the competition used to go under that name. Hope this helps.

Is it easier to go through against Liechtenstein's champions or Italy's second placed team?

This debate is stupid its clear we've won it 5 times wheter it was easy or not wheter the name of the competition has changed wheter you think so or not so on and so on. If you have any respect for football and its history Liverpool or not youd realise that your argument is just wrong.

I bet if Manchester United goes on to win the Club World Championship that Kie will says that only Manchester United are world champions, because the Intercontinental Cup was obviously a lesser cup, and only a cup and not a championship, and only Intercontinental and not Worldwide, thus, easier... sigh.gif

This is already true.

No, the new version is simply an expansion of it. While it will be true that we have only won the World Club Cup once (Similarly to how Liverpool have won the Champions League once) we will have been World Champions twice (Similarly to how Liverpool have been European Champions 5 times). The new format is basically set up to ensure that the Final is between the European and South American Champions, exactly the same as the previous tournament was. Also, it's known as the FIFA Club World Cup, not Championship.

Hope this helps.

It's funny 'cos Alex Ferguson has just called it the World Championships on telly...

Incey sacked aswell, even though they're doing sh*t, he could of been given a little longer but obviously you don't get time when the going gets tough.

...especially in the premiership. It was on the cards though. he'd be a very lucky man if Blackburn let him keep the job after they'd lost six games on the bounce.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson insists the team are keen to make their mark by becoming the first British team to win the Club World Cup.

Many have questioned the effect the mini-tournament in Japan will have on United's title chances, with their next league match not until Boxing Day.

"It's a big incentive to become world champions," Ferguson said.

"In 30 years time you look back and say 'Manchester United - world champions' - to me that is what our club's about."

After being held to a goalless draw by Spurs at White Hart Lane, United are in third place in the Premier League, six points behind leaders Liverpool with a game in hand.

"You can't win the Premier League in December," Ferguson said, when asked about the timing of the Club World Cup.

"Yes, it's a little bit of a handicap, but that's what happens when you're successful. I hope we're in Abu Dhabi next year because it means we're successful."

United arrived in Japan on Monday and face J-League side Gamba Osaka in Thursday's semi-final in Yokohama.

"The most difficult part is to change their body clock in such a short space of time," the manager added.

Ferguson's side won the previous version of this event, a one-off match between the champions of Europe and South America, with a 1-0 victory against Brazilian outfit Palmeiras in 1999.

Winning the Club World Cup would represent another milestone for the Scot, particularly as fierce rivals Liverpool lost 1-0 to Sao Paulo in the first tournament under the new format in 2005.

"The media don't take it as seriously as we do," he said. "It's an extra game for us but the prestige attached to the competition now is greater."

The thing is the Club World Cup is really no different to the Champions League, why?

Because the best teams are in Europe.. Man U would have been playing my home team, Adelaide United, which to be honest..are f*cking horrible. I would of loved to see that game to see how much Man U would have pumped them.

IMO Man U have already won it.

Liverpool and Barcelona had already won it too... Except they kinda lost. I don't rule out a surprise result, even though LDU is not even the shadow of the team that won the Libertadores is, they can always come packed in the defence and get a lucky counter attack. It has happened before.

IMO i think Rovers gave Ince plenty of time as hes had half a season. Not like they gave him 5 games or something. Plus when its your worst run in the Prem ever and your next to bottom how long could you give him. I think the move for Ince was to big of a step at this moment hopefully hell get another shot in the Prem in the future and do better next time around.

Plus Souness has turned down a return to Rovers.

Pachucha are expected to beat them and become the first non-South American/European team to go into a World Club Final.

I think it's a great concept, because then the sh*ttier teams from sh*tty nations can get a chance to play against a top team from Europe. I would have loved to see Adelaide United play Manchester United; hell, even playing Al Ahly should be a good oppurtunity.

If only Melbourne Victory were in there. sad.gif

EDIT: What the f*ck? We beat Bulgaria, a team ranked 15 places above us, 6-1, and we lose 14 ranking points? That's absolute f*cking bull-sh*t. mad.gif

I actually posted that after they'd lost, didn't realise the match was today.

Some good news today for those who want to see a convicted attempted murderer walk free.

Jailed Liverpool fan Michael Shields has won an important battle at the High Court in London in his bid for a free pardon.

The 22-year-old is serving a 10-year sentence for the attempted murder of a barman in Bulgaria in 2005, but has always maintained his innocence.

High Court judges have ruled Justice Secretary Jack Straw has the power to issue a pardon to Shields.

Mr Straw previously insisted he does not have the power to free him.

The two senior judges also ruled that it was for Mr Straw alone - and not the courts -to decide how to exercise that power.

The judges said the Bulgarian judicial process was over, but there was fresh evidence which had not been considered by the Bulgarian courts.

In court the judges said: "It is, in our judgment, open to the Secretary of State to entertain a request to exercise the royal prerogative. It is not for this court to say whether or how it might be exercised."

Mr Straw said he would appoint senior counsel to advise him on whether to pardon Shields or not, in light of the High Court decision.

The Justice Secretary said the case had to be looked at very closely, along with the implication it could have on cases of other British prisoners abroad.

Shields is currently serving the remainder of his sentence at Thorn Cross Young Offenders' Institute in Appleton Thorn in Warrington, Cheshire.

Liverpool Labour Euro MP Arlene McCarthy, commenting on today's High Court ruling, said: "The High Court ruling frees the way for Michael's release. It's a brilliant result for Michael and his family and we are now finally seeing the end to a three-year battle to get justice for Michael."

Following the decision, his father, Michael Shields Senior, said: "It's just heart-breaking for us.

"We just want to get him home and put put everything behind us and get on with our lives. It's been so hard for us.

"I hope and pray Mr Straw can do the right thing."

-------------------------------

A member of the executive with no legal training should not receive this responsibility. I also hope that Mr Straw does the right thing.

Der_Don, how's Dynamo Dresden faring? That's the team I support in Germany, because of the great Ulf Kirsten!

And also, Hofenheim leading the bundesliga. That has to be a shock eh?

Dynamo Dresden plays in the 3rd Bundesliga. Not very impressive.

And yes, for many people it's a shock to see Hoffenheim on top. I would like to see them winning the Bundesliga. But I dont think they can make it. There's a long way to go.

P.S.: Hamburg - Aston Villa 2:0

Not exactly our strongest squad out tonight, I wouldn't mind if we were Arsenal but our second squad is just short of shocking.

Can't say I blame O'neil, I'm glad he's focusing on the premier league considering out current position.

I just wish we had a squad big enough to do well at places like hamburg, to savour a bit of pride, even if we are already through.

Just watching the game now, I've seen two badly defended goals. Poor marking in the first goal and shocking defensive positioning on the second, our second team just doesn't look like a team at all, more like a pub team that've just started last week.

No real attacking threat either.

Harewood, just cannot progess what so ever, he can't hold the ball either, Delfoneso looks alot more confident than Harewood does, There's not alot we can do to get back in the game, but if we don't it's going to be a hammering.
