What the hell was that queen Ronaldo doing today anyway? What was he scared the ball might hit his face, only thing i can think of. Guy needs to grow a pair.

It was a very strange decision, but he did obviously think that the whistle had gone. Most players would block the ball rather than just allowing it to smash into their face in order to prove their manliness to opposition fans.

You dont obviously believe that he thought the whistle went do you? i dont, even if he thought the whistle had blown you dont do that, you either move your head or duck not flap at it like a big girl.

Of course he believed the whistle went, why else would be put his hands in the air to stop the ball? There is literally no reason for this. Maybe he stuck his hands up because he'd lost concentration, as I said it was a very strange decision (by him) but he shouldn't have received a booking for it according to the laws of the game. Having said that I can see why Webb did send him off.

Why would someone put his hands on their face when they have a gifted chance?

Possible reason: He heard a whistle.

How many matches is ron banned?

In Fifa's Laws of the Game 2005, Law 12 says a free-kick or penalty will be awarded if a player "handles the ball deliberately (except for the goalkeeper within his own penalty area)".

Page 67 of the document gives "additional information for referees, assistant referees and fourth officials".

It adds: "Referees are reminded that deliberately handling the ball is normally punished only by a direct free-kick or penalty kick if the offence occurred inside the penalty area.

"A caution or dismissal is not normally required."

Ok so your saying that if the ball is coming from long and Rio or Terry, Carragher etc dont want to head it they can catch the ball and run around with it and they shouldnt get a card ? Thats basically how FIFA have worded that rule. Its just common knowledge from the first time you ever play football that you should never handle the ball while its in play. That simple that rule is nonsense.

it is only a yellow if the player is seeking to gain an advantage

The instant the referee saw Ronaldo handle the ball, he would have surely assumed he was trying to gain an unfair advantage by raising his hands, and made the correct decision in giving him a yellow card. By the laws of the game, the referee did nothing wrong.

The referee made a mistake in that Ronaldo was obviously not trying to gain an advantage by handling the ball, if he'd put it in the net and run off celebrating a la Scholes then you would have a point.

Anyway, there's no need to bicker over this, Cristiano Ronaldo deliberately handled the ball, and it did warrant a yellow card, in my opinion.

OK, well your opinion is contrary to the actual rules of football.

Cant believe its even being discussed to be honest.

He deserved the second yellow. Simple as. Even Fergie didnt argue.

"He tried to stop the ball from hitting his face," said Ferguson.

"He thought he had heard a whistle, he got a little push as well and it is not as if he punched the ball. The crowd played a part and he got sent off."

I can't believe how many people who don't understand the rules of football are acting as though they do.

1, Vs. Blackburn in the League Cup. Unfortunately Evra's banned for the game against Spurs due to him picking up his 5th booking yesterday, and bans only kicking in for that after 7 days.

user posted image Utterly clueless.

If a player catches the ball and runs around with it they are obviously gaining an advantage in that they prevent the other team getting possession. In catching the ball, Ronaldo ensured that the opposition would get possession in that the ball went out of play for a goal kick. An example of a player attempting to gain an advantage and receiving a deserved booking is Scholes' hand of God goal against Zenit.

Your logic is that Ronaldo has done something that you don't like and you believe it should be a bookable offence, therefore he should go off. You ignore the very important fact that it isn't a bookable offence according to the rules of the game.

Im not going to carry this on you have your view and i have mine i was being a bit sarcastic with my last remark but everybody knows if its a deliberate handball your getting booked or sent off, wheter the rules state that or not. More common sense than following the rules.

I believe referees should uphold the laws of the game, obviously you feel differently. In what respect is it common sense to book someone who is in now way attempting to cheat?

In the 2008/2009 Laws it states:

Disciplinary sanctions

There are circumstances when a caution for unsporting behaviour is required when a player deliberately handles the ball, e.g. when a player:

deliberately and blatantly handles the ball to prevent an opponent gaining possession

attempts to score a goal by deliberately handling the ball

It was a deliberate handball and so deserved a caution for unsporting behaviour. In the same rule book it does have this which makes for interesting reading considering the circumstances:

If a spectator blows a whistle and the referee considers the whistle interfered with play (e.g. a player picks up the ball with his hands, assuming that play has been stopped), the referee must stop the match and restart the play with a dropped ball from the position of the ball when play was stopped, unless play was stopped inside the goal area, in which case the referee drops the ball on the goal area line parallel to the goal line at the point nearest to where the ball was located when play was stopped.

That's not what it means, it says there are circumstances when a caution is required, that is, when the player behaves in an unsporting manner. It certainly does not say that deliberately handling the ball in itself is a bookable offence.

Honest to god, why not just shut the f*ck up?

Monday night football... hate the thought of it, going all weekend without being able to look forward to the game. Finally here though, and here's to hoping we get the result this week - although I can see us f*cking up another great opportunity to go top. tounge.gif

I can't believe the excuses of 'shielding his face from the ball' and 'hearing a whistle' is being used wow.gif

Look at the Youtube video, sh*t quality i know. (close up starts around 20 seconds)

Not a single player form either United or City stopped play apart from Ronaldo. He's jumped up for the ball missed time his jump so hit the ball with his hands, then he thinks 'sh*t what have i done' and quickly gives the 'i heard a whistle' gesture.

A cold and most probably wet night of football, the perfect time for us to fook up tounge.gif. This is a must win, hope we don't buckle under abit of pressure, shouldn't do though.

Of course we will biggrin.gif If Chelsea lose we lose if they draw we draw (it seems anyway) I hope we can pull of these three points aswell and i dont see why not. Plus i agree with you football in the Prem doesnt feel right being played on the Mobday should just stay to weekends.

@ Seddo just typical United they know they f*cked up (Well just Ronaldo) but they dont half come out with some great excuses at times.

It is in the f*cking rules of the game. Clearly you are either on a wind-up or cannot understand very simple things.

There's been a fair few players been booked for deliberate handballs last season and there's been a few occasions this season. The only time where i've seen a player deliberate handball this season and not get a card is when it was in his own box and a penalty was given.

That is because most deliberate handballs are done for an unsporting reason.

All right then ask every football fan you now who doesnt support United and ask them if it was a booking or not and most will tell you that it is, wheter the rule states it or not.

I left this matter alone but it must mean so much to you that you have to bring it up again. Lets face it if the ref didnt follow the rules with Ronaldo and the handball wouldnt the Premier League taken some action by now?, by reinstating Ronaldo.

You didn't leave it alone, you said "just typical United they know they f*cked up (Well just Ronaldo) but they dont half come out with some great excuses at times." Please stop lying and deceiving.

a) The Premier League do not deal with these matters.

b) Ronaldo is not suspended for a Premier League match

c) The FA will not overrule a referee in the case of a bookable offence unless in the case of mistaken identity.

Here comes a 0-0'er.

Dominating possession, 9 shots, 9 corners and we've still not had the ball in the net.

I know, a 30 yard crack onto the post.

There's more creativity in a under 10 school team than Liverpool's attack, it pains me sad.gif. We haven't got no creativity in recent games, sh*tty West Ham (sorry Eddie tounge.gif) getting battered by everyone and Liverpool play them and do nothing..

My live feed keeps stopping and buffering, doing my head in.

Hope we bag a goal.

Unbelievable. Or simply expected. Bah!

Both. I hate night time Premiership fixtures.

Three 0-0'ers at Anfield this season against sh*tty Stoke, sh*tty Fulham and sh*tty West Ham.

21 shots and about 19 corners, and again we fail to score. Have we even scored from a corner this season?, should start practicing on the training field.

Still top of the league though.

sh*tty West Ham? In honsety that's being disrespectful. We defended brilliantly tonight.

We deserved this point if not more. Cole should have scored right at the death so I think you're just being bitter claiming that Liverpool just played badly and West Ham never had a chance to get anything from this match.

sh*tty West Ham, sh*tty Stoke and sh*tty Fulham? Come on, you can analyse football in a less childish way than that. confused.gif

Without trying to cause an argument, West Ham at home is the sort of game that I would think title challangers should win. Who knows though, hopefully Zola bows down for us on the 14th.

Stop being a moaning bitch Eddie, it's a joke, i call the majority of teams sh*tty but it doesn't mean they are.

We should be beating these teams at home whether you think it's disrespectful or not. Edit:, see Moncai knows.

And yes West Ham did defend excellently, which is why we resorted to long range shooting. But to say you deserved more than a point is going a bit farfetched as your attacking football was non existent in the first half and only sprung to life in the second half and even then only one or two chances caused us problems..

And, yeah ET, you're right. Last few weeks, have been remarkably goaless, particularly the top 4 teams. Might have something to do with the myriad of injured strikers across the league. Possibly. confused.gif
