Re: Rafa Time, I'm aware there was an injury and it was justified, but it's also justified when United get it.

I hope we start taking this competition seriously now, if we do we've very good chance of winning it; only Arsenal reserves, Spurs and possibly Blackburn capable of defeating our first team, and I'd seriously doubt any of them could manage it.

Liverpool out, Chelsea out. Goddamn, what the hell is going on? mercie_blink.gif

Arsenal still in. smile.gif

As long as we don't get ManU in the draw, we should be fine. Tottenham and Blackburn could be a challenge though, especially for our young squad.

Then why the hell did we get 6 minutes of injury time on Sunday? It's not like a player broke his leg or anything. confused.gif

Did you watch the game? Almunia was injured and had to have treatment on the pitch.

Yawn. Seriously mate, you must be the only person in the country, Fergie included, who isn't aware on some level of the extra time he bullies out of fourth officials when required.

I must say I'm very disappointed Rafa chose to field a second string team last night. It's all very well for Arsenal and United, who have bigger fish to fry, but Rafa's deluding himself if he thinks we have the strength in depth to challenge for the other three big prizes in the way United, Arsenal and Chelsea can. I'm not saying we should set our sights low or anything, but I don't think we needed to rest quite so many bigger names.

No, I did not watch the game (it was my birthday, I had better things to do) but I watched the extended highlights of the match and they didn't show anything about Almunia being injured.

If Almunia was injured then why the fuss about all the extra time? Why don't you call it 'Wenger time' then, since it came from the Arsenal side?

Yeah, and it wasn't for 6 minutes. And stoppages during the second half didn't accumulate to 6 minutes injury time being added either.

Liverpool are their own worst enemies at times.

Yes they are doing well in the prem but its hardly time to uncork the champers!

Stupid getting knocked out of a comp and fielding a weak team, its so unfair on the fans who pay to watch it.

That Burnley fan on SSN summed up my opinions on DD perfectly. "Didier has two sides, one the fantastic footballer. The other the attention seeking child. We saw both last night."

If he misses the Arsenal game I will tear my hair out.

Its not just that, Rafa sets himself up for so much stick. He knows hes gona get crucified from the fans and the press.

I dont care what club you are, Liverpool cant afford to build the stadium, the players earn 50-120k a f*cking week. PLAY THEM! Win the cup, 5Million?

Its beyond me.

But with Liverpool in a stronger than usual place in the Prem I'm sure he wants to keep players fit for that instead of 'the mickey mouse cup.'

I'm sure it did you know, when you add up all the throw-ins, injuries, goal celebrations, free kicks, arguments with the ref etc. you usually get well over 6 minutes in any given match.

Everything you've described there is pretty much a certainty in every single match played in the premiership, give or take the odd couple. And how many times do you see 6 minutes of injury time given?

Granted, there should have been, in my opinion, about 4 minutes added on in the Arsenal ManU game. Those two extra minutes could have easily changed the outcome of both teams premiership title contentions.

3-4 Minutes is a usual amount for injury time, are you saying Almunia's injury wasn't worthy of an extra few minutes?

No, I'm saying that 3-4 minutes is given in games even when injuries resembling Almunias occur. I'm not saying the referee shouldn't have given 6 minutes, I'm saying that 6 minutes is never given when a player gets injured, just like Almunia did.

Can't really back this up with much but usually when injuries that take longer than usual to sort out, in my experience at least, the stoppage time is increased to reflect that, see Chelsea's game against Reading (Cech's injury) and their Carling final against Arsenal. I've never noticed only 4 minutes going on when a player's been injured for some time in the way Almunia was.

Almunia was down for about 3 minutes. Now if logic proves right, then the referee should have added 3 extra minutes on to what he was already going to add on, which would total about 6 minutes. But logic never seems to prove right, and when injuries similar to Almunia's occur, in most circumstances I've seen, the ref has added at most 4 extra minutes, and never what they should actually add.

Both Spurs-Liverpool games in recent weeks have gone past 96 minutes (last night the Spurs goalkeeper was injured)

Rafa has played a weakened team in the Carling cup since he's been at Liverpool and a weakened team got to the final in 2005 but then he decides to play the best players at that point.

Even though it was a weakened side, it was the defensive lapse that cost us, most probably due to that the players have never played much together.

I'd rather win it than lose to be honest as a trophy is a trophy regardless of it's Mickey Mouse name but i'm not gutted about getting knocked out, it's only Chelsea that take it seriously out of the 'big 4'. Atleast it clears some fixture space up anyway.

Edit: Liverpool's game v Spurs in the Prem didn't go past 96 minutes at all. Oh and didn't Gomez swallow his tongue?.
