Three Boro fans have been let off with suspended 2 year sentences for beating the sh*t out of some Chelsea fans. The oldest was 47, I would have thought you'd kinda grow out of the tribal behavior by then, or hoped at least.

 

Anyways, they pleaded guilty and have been given 2 year suspended sentence. The fat, ugly 47 year old was as aggressive as ever upon being confronted by reporters, shoving the camera man out of the way.

 

f*ckin' disgrace, he should get far longer than that, or at least not suspended.

Should be banned for life.

Football would be much better off without them.

They've been banned from the Riverside for life I think, and other English grounds and foreign grounds for five years. But they should be locked up for a while, not that I see that helping them grow up.

Voronin scored again, I'm astounded. It was in the 90th minute as well, to win 1-0. Hopefully he'll prove me wrong and score quite a few in the coming season but with the better strikers at Liverpool's disposal and now Keane also, I can't see him getting many games.

Was watching some Olympic football on Eurosport yesterday. Brazil look a decent team, even if it took them 80 minutes to score against Belgium, who had two players sent off (one of which was Kompany, just for a change).

Voronin was Liverpool's top scorer in the pre-season friendlies last year aswell and you know what happened in the league . I doubt he'll do to much damage again this year.

 

Also apparently he's still very thought after in Germany, considering we got him as a bosman we should sell him and make a profit .

To be fair, Doncaster had fluidity and played with no debutants in the starting 11 using the notion of what got here can keep on doing so. Whereas Derby played with 7 new players and it was a big question I think from Jewell to expect them to perform well. It was probably the best time to play Derby. I bare no or little relevance on the result today to suspect Doncaster will do well or Derby will continue their downward spiral. It was a matter of momentum and a well drilled side versus a new and unknowing side.

sh*t forgot the Charity Community Shield was on today, i was just flicking through the channels and seen the last few pens, god how awful were Portsmiouth spot takers. The commentator said that Portsmouth have never won a pen shootout, can't see that being true, they've been established for around 100 years or so, they must of won a competitive shootout somewhere down the line.

 

United won on pens in the end for those that don't know.

On the subject of the Charity Shield, I honestly didn't realise it was on either. However it's nothing more than a glorified friendly these days (Friendly tournaments are more competitive and have nicer trophies as well...).

Crap start to the season for us away to Cardiff. A draw would have been a fair result but for both goals out defending was very poor, but they did get fortunate with the second (winning goal) not only coming at the end of the game but off the players shoulder!

So the F.A have got a new respect thingy called 'Get on with the Game', trying to make players give more respect to the referee's so starting off at the top.

 

That's all well and all but what i find funny is that John Terry is one of the faces of the campaign lol, he's one of the worse players to run upto the ref.

 

And some ex United youngster has just got 4.3 million quid compensation for getting cropped just as his career was starting and getting an injury which ruined his carrer, then he will be liable for more compensation once they've worked out all the interest he could of gained from his footballing money along with his pension scheme, although his career was cut short so, so early he must be pretty happy now, an easy life from now on.

Well we beat Exeter so onto the second round of the cup. Hopefully this win will give us some confidence going into the weekend game with Birmingham.

 

There's a good article here about Standard questioning why they (the Belgium champions) have to play a CL qualifier with a team that finished 3rd. They make a good point but without teams that finish 2nd, 3rd and in some cases 4th the CL wouldnt be the same to watch or for the quality on display. I do think though that the Champions League name should be dropped with it reverting to the European Cup.

It's down to FIFA rankings to which nations have to qualify even if you win their league, i mean where are Belgium in FIFA's rankings?.

 

Can you imagine if Standard Liege made it straight to the Champions League group stages instead of say Liverpool for example, there's going to be such a quality drop in the whole competition and if the same goes for every winner of a league and if you deduct 3rd and 4th place finishes from the top league, it would be such a poor competition, people want to see the best teams in the world Europe.

 

Plus finishing 10th in the English Premier league will probably get you first in the Belgium league.

 

I agree with Dave though that the Champions League should revert back to it's old name.

Thing is though if teams like Standard and other smaller championship winning teams were able to go straight into the competition and continuously do so for a number of seasons their level of quality would raise as would their ability to attract new players with the incentive of playing CL.

 

I still think the top 4 getting into it (even the qualifying stages for 3rd & 4th) is excessive. Top 2 would be more fairer, though as Liam says the loss of such big named teams would deplete the competition.

Very true but, people want to see decent football now and do not want to wait and most importantly the Champions Leagues sponsors, the people watch for the great teams involved and so these big sponsors get a lot of eyes looking at their products. If the competition is full of winners from the small leagues and i can guarantee you that alot of people want watch as much thus the sponsors possibly losing money.

 

I remember when Liverpool finished 5th in the league but won the Champions League the year before, FIFA weren't going to let Liverpool play but some of the major sponsors kicked off.

 

If that 6+5 rules ever comes into play (which i doubt it would, because it discriminates nationality) then maybe these smaller teams will improve as the big clubs will be forced to use a big amount of homegrown players soon.
