There are some rumors about Steed Malbranque leaving Spurs for Sunderland.

Personally, I think that there are pretty much chances to see him move to Sunderland. In spite of his good season with Tottenham.

So how does the buy yourself out of contract work?

Do you pay the remainder of the contract off? Or the full contract?

If Barry wanted to leave he could have paid himself out of his contract? Then joined Liverpool and pocketed a huge signing on fee?

You only buy the reminder of your contract but i'm not sure how it fully works, it can't be that straight forward as not many players do it.

 

Also the word going around was that Barry has a service clause in his contract (something to do with him being with the club for a while) and he pockets 3 million quid if sold, but if he hands in a transfer request he loses that bonus. So although he said he wanted to play for Liverpool he didn't actually hand in a transfer request unlike Keane.

Well say if he earns 40k a week at Villa, so thats 2million ish? So instead of LFC paying 18Million, they pay his contract, then they pay him the 3Million he is losing for doing it, then they give him a signing on fee. Win all round. He didnt though, so it must be more complicated.

Article 17 of FIFA regulations...

 

A player, if aged under 28 when the contract begins, may break it after three years. If he is 28 or over when the contract begins then he can break it after just two years. If the contract is broken before these deadlines then the player must pay the club he has left his market value (if Barry had done this, it'd be £17mill or whatever Liverpool bidded). If the contract is broken after the "protected period" (ie. after the 3rd year of an under 28 or 2nd year of an 28+) then the remainder of his wages must be paid to the club.

 

An example: Cristiano Ronaldo signed a new, five-year contract in the summer of 2007 at the age of 22, so he can break that contract in 2010 and only have to pay the remaining two year's wages, which is around £12mill. However, if he broke it prior to 2010, then he'd have to pay his market value (about £60mill if you read the Sun ).

 

The wonder of World Soccer magazine (I didn't actually copy it word for word!). It claims that we might start to see big name-players negotiating shorter contracts and so the players and their agents get more power.

Been a busy day for City, we've signed Ben Tahim, got rid of Corraddi, should dot the I's on the new Contract for Johnson. Just need City to hijack a move for Berbatov and it would be sweet... since no f*cker ever listens to the fans and again we've missed the boat on Robbie Keane... again. Us fans have been wanting him since his days at Wolves, good signing Liverpool.

Barry will go still I believe. Villa’s valuation of him is ridiculous anyway, he’s worth £15 million tops but because he’s English another club has to pay beyond his actual worth to secure him. I'm not sure, the whole of Villa Park applauded him when we played against Odense when he came on as sub, He's got to expect that, he's been lucky we havn't held the grudge for long. I do believe though he'll be gone next season

I didn't realise the Champions League 3rd round qualifier draw was tomorrow and with not all the decent teams being seeded Liverpool or Arsenal could be paired up with the likes off Atletico Madrid, Galatasary, Sparta Praguue, Slavia Prague and Dinamo Zagreb, while the first two are decent the other teams are near enough always in the Champions League group stages so i'm pretty sure both teams will not want to be drawn against them.

 

Also i doubt Torres would want to knock out his previous club .

Newcastle have signed Sebastien Bassong from Metza, in his early 20s. He plays in central defence, anyone know if he's any good? Seemingly played against Doncaster for us in a friendly as a trial kinda thing. We lost 1-0 to Doncaster (who featured, when looking at the team lists, two ex-Newcastle academy players and three unsgined trialists!) though, so I'm not quite sure if that's a good sign or not!

 

Still no exciting news though for us.

Well the new City shirts are 30 squids direct from City (they've said they aren't go to produce any more shirts from Le Coq Sportif at more than 30 notes), but everywhere else I've seen them are doing them at 36(ish), bit cheeky if you ask me given that delivery from City is only 3.95. So I might just end up ordering them from City.

Some very interesting ties there. Schalke v Athletico will be a cracker and Spartak v (probably) Dinamo should be good as well.

 

Some surprising results in the second qualifying round as well. Anderlecht lost at home to BATE Borisov 2-1 and Rapid Wien lost 3-0 in Cyprus to Anorthosis Famagusta. Anyway, easy draws for the English clubs. Can't see either of them going out.
