U.S held Argentina to a 0-0 draw. I think we played incredibly well and I was surprised at the crowd turnout. It may as well been a World Cup match.

 

Anyway, we hit the post before the end of the 1st half and that was as close as anyone got to a goal. Tim Howard did a bang up job and deserved Man of the Match. Why the hell did Ferguson throw him away?

After a humiliating defeat against Argentina Mexico came out and played with balls this time. We beat Peru 4-0 even and we could have score 2 more goals but that's the way Football is. Guillermo Ochoa didn't get to play so I'm pissed off at our coach for not even letting him play the second half.

Guys, I've never really come into the Footy Desk before because I'm an Aussie and haven't had a lot to say, but I'm hoping to come in here a bit more seeing as the World Cup Qualifiers are on and I'm becoming a big fan of Australia's A-League.

He played a solid season. I liked him more when he was playing for Bremen. Due to the rivalry between Schalke and Dortmund, for me every Schalke-Player sucks ^^

Does anybody know whats up between Podolski and ManCity? I heard that they wanted him some months ago. And some days ago Podolski said taht he wants to leave Bayern if he is not going to play in the starting line-up. And i cant imagine that Klinsmann will let him play because Toni and Klose are definatley playing from the beginning next season.

I tell you what - I wouldn't mind him at Newcastle. I wouldn't rule an offer out by us, not that I've heard any rumours but it adds up. He wants out and we have the money and need a good, solid goalscorer. Judging by tonight's performance, he fits the bill.

 

I also heard that Schweinsteiger wants out according to the Mail on Saturday. It said he doesn't get as much playing time as he wants, yet checking Wikipedia he made more appearances the past season than he had in the previous ones.

Well i think Newcaste is not playing Uefa Cup this season, is it? So i think there's no chance of getting him. Personally i think it's just important for him to play. No matter where. And he stated out that he wants to play in England if possible. I'd like to see him in Bremen.

 

It was a big fault to go to Bayern. Bremen is one of the best teams in Europe where young, talented players can improve(see Klose, Diego etc.) but Podolski decided to go to Bayern and to take the cash. Is there any top-english team interested in him? He really wants to go. Klinsmann wont let him play. I just cant believe...

Nah, we're not in any Euro competitions at all, not even Inter-Toto. But in a few seasons time he'll want to sign for us, with us being league champions and all

I think Rafa Benitez thinks this European 6+5 rule is coming into action. Alonso seems to be off to Juve as Gareth Barry seems to be coming to Liverpool and now it's rumoured he's now after Stuart Downing.

 

Lets rob the other clubs talismanic (is that a word ?) English captains .

 

Maybe he'll get rid of Voronin and keep Crouchy and give him regular starts up from with Torres.

Gareth Barry will be an excellent signing. One of the most underrated players in the prem for me.

 

I dont think Downing is all that though. I think Rafa would be making the common liverpool manager mistake and spending money on a half player.

He makes f*ck-ups, crucially the one that knocked us out of the Champions' League in 2004 when our path to win the thing thereafter would have been very easy. Another reason is Van Der Sar, although I was tearing my hair out when we were using Roy Carroll instead of Howard, absolute sh*te he was, and Howard, despite his mistakes was very good. He's proved it at Everton.

Well, Mario Jardel was meant to be that big star, but then he got here and we all realised he was just a fat, slow, washed up hero of the 90's. Dwight Yorke's tenure went a bit better, he won a championship with Sydney and played well.

 

They need to get rid of the salary cap or make it much higher in coming years, and let third-party agreements flow feely, so that we can attract big talent and make the A-League the biggest league in the Southern Hemisphere, and everntually the biggest outside of Europe.

Big news regarding the vacant managers job at Chelsea now.

 

Luiz Felipe Scolari will be taking charge off Chelsea from July 1st, so that's a couple of days after the Euro 2008 final has been played.

 

Big in the International stage but has not manged at club level since something like 2000, i don't think he's as proven as a club manager than an International one. He's never even managed in Europe before (at club level).

 

He didn't like the English press when they were chasing him for information about the England job, so how ill he react to the press at club level which is just as bad.

 

Lets see how this pans out, his Portuguese tactics seem spot on though, he'll have to learn a bit more English now.

Yeah it's stupid isn't it, great player but no way near worth 20 million quid.

 

Side note to Mr Platini and Mr Blatter, this is why the 6+5 rule will never work, the English players prices are way to steep and this is why English teams look abroad for the talent.

Yeah, you have a point Seddo. Enlgish players are ridiculously highly-priced. Examples: Darren Bent for £16.5m, and more recently, that Aaron Ramsey to Arsenal for £5m (which is amazing, he'd be in my year at school!)
