Story of Heniktí's Last Party

They are all dead. There isn't anything we can do about it.

The words chilled the air around them, they felt lost. Lost in a labyrinth, trying to save some, whom were already dead. He looked at them, with deep regret. For it was his idea to save them, and he had encouraged them to attempt to help them. But now he knew that his idea had failed, and more importantly, they may be subjected to the same faith that happened upon those they could not save. He thought for words of comfort, but as he saw no comfort himself, he found none.

Their eyes starred at him, with sorrow and regret, all were speechless, but when they saw he had no words either, they started looking around, looking for words.

We must move.

He said finally, finding the words hard to get through his tears. He wanted to take lead again, but he it was hard to even encourage himself. With his finger he removed a tear from his chin. With his hands he dried his eyes, and tried to oppress the thought of the loss of them they had come to save.

We may be doomed to their faith. We must move.

He spoke again, this time the words came out more easily, and they were more clear. The others looked at him, still in sorrow, but now also with fear. His words was no comfort, nonetheless they agreed with him.

He took a touch that was hanging from the wall. He started to walk away from the room, and they followed him. For a short time he felt encouraged and strong, but soon doubt took him, he knew not the way out. The labyrinth had taken half a day to get in. They were lucky they had found whom they were looking for. Wither it was faith or not, he cared not to think of, but now he had to find their way out again.

• What he did not know was the secret of the labyrinth. The old Labyrinth of Terenés was a symbol of might for Emperor Ífeník of The Land of Læsníkés. The now late Emperor wanted the most difficult labyrinth upon this world. He told his leading architect and councillor, Ropnukéf, that he should build this labyrinth, and that he should make it so special, so none should find his remains when he went to the Afterlife.

Ropnukéf spend many sleepless nights drawing, thinking and inventing designs for the labyrinth. It was only when he realised that the most difficult labyrinth, would be a labyrinth that was never the same, always changing, always tricking anyone who dare travel into it. But Ropnukéf found it hard and difficult to create a structure that could move walls around. Instead, he went for his second best solution, making everything appear different at different times, despite always being the same. The Sun, mirrors and many strange, but thoughtful, cracks in the walls helped him accomplish that.

But their party did not know of this, and as they moved they felt unfamiliar with their surroundings, despite having already been there moments ago.

Don't despise, we cannot afford to lose anyone! Why I can't remember these walls I do not know.

He muttered high enough for his party to hear him. Despite feeling doubtful, his word was felt with encourage and leadership, though his latter sentence felt doubtful to his party.

I think we have turned wrong.

Someone from the back spoke suddenly.

Where?

Asked their claimed leader.

I am not sure, but I feel we have turned wrong somewhere.

The reply sounded.

None of this is familiar to any of us, there is something evil about this labyrinth.

He turned around again, and turned forward once more. He started speaking.

There are more than twenty exits of this labyrinth, if we continue like this, we should find it at some point.

And thus they continued through the labyrinth, like walking blind. As time went on, they went deeper and deeper, or so they thought.

Néralfý maré o-jakmasu!

A deep voice could be heard, shaking them all, it sounded like it came from everywhere. The voice was evil to them.

What did it say?

They all muttered. They did not know the tongue the voice had spoken. But fear took them all, despite what it had said, it could not have been good. But their leader felt a sudden need to appear strong and fearless.

Who are you? Speak a tongue we understand!

He shouted through the halls, his word bounced off the walls and went deep through the labyrinth with echoes.

Te'kím jul ry wéntík!

The voice could be heard once more, but this time somewhat different. And one from his party suddenly spoke.

That's Améjikí it speaks. It says “get out of my halls!”

Fear spread in the party.

Íl ry eréník hunkmé. Ér! Te'kím jul ry wéntík, huf íl nak weém!

They looked at their interpreter again.

It says that since we understand his tongue, we must leave now or die.

But before they had time to consider this translation, a large number of footsteps could be heard in the corners of the halls. They sounded like an entire army moving around the labyrinth, drawing nearer and nearer. And they could only listen as what would most likely be their death was drawing closer to them.

Do not panic! If they hear us, they will find us.

Their leader tried to calm down his party, but he knew what he said was not true, they would find them. They were going to die no matter what.

 

And so it goes.

Interesting read. Different, to say the least. It seems confusing at times, but that is almost surely intentional: the way it is written makes it pretty complex, despite very little actually happening.

 

Short and sweet, I liked it.

I can't add more to this story, as they are dead. Hence the title is Heniktí's (I forgot the 't' in the topic title ) last party.

 

However, the same labyrinth will play a part in some other tale. I have yet to invent it. Note, I change writing style depending on what I write. But I never change writing style in the middle of work (well, unless it is a good effect).
