GTA3Freak-2001
Microsoft's director of programming, Larry Hryb, has revealed that the company plans to make non-paying users of the Xbox Live service wait longer to access game demos and trailers. A new trailer for Gears of War launched on the service this week - but so far, it's only available to those who pay an annual or monthly fee for a Gold subscription. Silver account holders will have to wait "about a week", according to a post on Hryb's blog. "This is going to happen more and more (Gold getting things before Silver), so you may want to think about upgrading if you want all the latest and greatest trailers, demos etc.," Hryb wrote. More than 4 million gamers now use Xbox Live, and Microsoft expects that figure to hit 6 million by June. Over 70 million pieces of content, including demos and game and movie trailers, have been downloaded from Xbox Live Marketplace since its launch last November. Bit unfair for Silver Members but hey what do you expect from MS, they are a business like every other who want money out of our pockets. I just think demos and trailers are advertising tools and as such there shouldn't really be any delay in their availability to us whether we be Silver or Gold if not for the us as the consumer but game developers and publishers possibly losing out on sales. RMT
Not very fair to be honest. Specially since it is free content. On the plus side you can now stream video from your PC with a update that was just released. Dup
This is reasonable. The people paying for the premium service get the premium service. At the end of the day it will still be free, it's just a time difference. MS have to pay for bandwidth and lately the service has been slow. So I see their reasoning giving gold members a faster service for the latest content and the lesser paying members getting it later on. Most companies do this kind of structuring model with content. Like the big fileplanet type services. At the end of the day you don't have to pay for a demo on top of your subscription, Silver or Gold subscription.
