As long as they follow the comic book exactly (which it looks like theyre doing) theres no way the can screw up. This movie is going to be great.

Apart from the ending. Which they've changed quite a bit.

I apologize for the double post, but I figure a slight bump was in order. I present, the final Watchmen film poster. I'll just say more than a few people are less than impressed with it. I like it, whatever.

Also, Yahoo has a new Featurette vid up with director Zack Snyder. I just watched it; it's a nice, quick summary for those who know nothing of the Watchmen story and a nice tease of what's to be in the film for you veterans. Watching it in HD goodness is the sh*t. New Footage.

http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/watchmen.html?showVideo=1

And Yahoo has a nice Watchmen page with a countdown clock to the film's release:

35 Days, 8 Hours, 45 Minutes

So I was reading Total Film (British Film Magazine) the other day and they had this little feature on the upcoming Watchmen movie in which they asked all the actors a few questions related to their characters that they are playing. Here is what they asked Matthew Goode (Ozymandias/Adrian Veidt)

TF- Are you signed up for a sequel?

Matthew Goode- Yeah, but it won't happen. Zack's said f*ck that. Alan Moore's the genius and I don't think the seven writers they'd use in CAA's back room would be able to do it. I don't know where I'd stand if I said "No f*cking way". Probably in court!

f*cking studios are looking for a sequel?! Obviously it won't happen...I hope.

Oh and is anyone sick of the quote "From the visionary director of '300'" ?

Nah, not really. He's earned that niche with the eye candy his films have.

Eyecandy ? Hmm obviously we have diffrent opinions of eyecandy here.

I mean to me, the constant manipulation of time and the switiching between extream saturation and bright orange, isn't what I would call eyecandy.

I just finished reading the 26 pages of Watchmen #1. f*cking awesome, can't wait to read the next 11.

I still need to read the 7 or 8 back pages, which look pretty interesting too. But this was really good. I am loving Rorschach's grittiness and relentlessness when it comes to justice.

"But there are so many deserving of retribution...

...and there is so little time."

No Dr. Manhatten glowing dong in this one though.

Sure will. I'm currently about half-way through #2.

...

I wonder how they'll do the rape scene in the movie?

Edit: @ Rusk, that link has some awesome images. The one where Dr. Manhattan is standing as a giant over the battlefield is killer.

Goodfella.

The last poster is really bad. It's as if they took the awesome one of Rorschach walking in the rain solo then pooped over it with photoshop. Infact it's pretty obvious that's what they did.

Ah, I hate the f*cking face palm.

But seriously, I've been reading on the interweb people speculating on how far Snyder will go with it.

"Rusk, that link has some awesome images. The one where Dr. Manhattan is standing as a giant over the battlefield is killer."

What's nice about this is that they're not only trying to be as faithful as possible to the story but they are also adding stuff to the Watchmen universe such as the "photos" of Dr. Manhattan in Vietnam or Dr. Manhattan on the moon.

And the "Operation: Wrath of God" patch makes a nice signature once you work it within the rules.

I guess this is the final poster... It's an IMAX one and it looks much better than the regular final poster.

Also, a fan-made poster which also looks better than the actual final poster.

I hate that IMAX poster but I do like the fan made poster. Rorschach walking down the street and The Comedian falling from the window are my two favourite posters so far.

I don't go to movies a whole lot anymore. The only movie I saw in a theatre last year was WALL-E.

But I will definitely see "Watchmen" on release day. The Palladium here in San Antonio has a couple of IMAX screens and I will try to see it on those (I did it for "300" - Zack Snyder's previous picture). If the Palladium is going to presell tickets I will go for one of them. I also plan to bring the book with me to read as I wait in line with fellow "Watchmen" fans. That will be part of the fun.

Anybody care to place any bets on when some asshat is going to show up nude and painted blue? Or worse, wearing a black Speedo? You know somebody is going to try that.

I do, however, expect to see some of the fans to come up dressed as some of the other characters. That will also add to the fun (especially if the various Silk Spectre clones happen to be hot).

I am also curious if they plan to do anything special down here concerning "Watchmen". This is because Jackie Earle Haley (Rorschach) is from San Antonio. Probably not but it does bounce around in my head from time to time. We'll see as we get closer to release.

And I swear, that last photo of The Comedian looks like a dead ringer for Robert Downey Jr.....

First 18 minutes of Watchmen (plus a World Premiere of a scene) was shown at NY Comic Con. Slight spoilers below if you haven't read the graphic novel;

The film opens with a shot of a smiley face, which pulls out to reveal that it’s a pin attached to Edward Blake (AKA The Comedian). Blake is watching television, flipping through various channels. We catch glimpses of the current political climate through talk show discussions about “the likelihood that Russia will attack America” (0%, according to Pat Buchanan) and President Nixon speaking about the doomsday clock. Dr. Manhattan is also mentioned as a major player on the political stage.

A serene commercial featuring the song “Unforgettable” comes onto the television and that’s when the iconic scene begins: The assassination of The Comedian. A large, powerful man, darkened by shadows, barges into the door and Blake stands up. “I suppose it was just a matter of time,” Blake groans, still holding his cigar. He sees his gun and dives for it, somersaults backward and aims it at the doorway. But the man is already upon him, and grabs at his gun.

A thrilling hand to hand fight scene begins between Blake and his assailant. Both men are incredibly strong, with walls being punched out, knives being thrown and caught, and characters being thrown through tables. This is what 300’s action scenes would look like if it was between two guys, and done using only hand-to-hand combat. The kinetic visuals of that film are replicated, where the action rapidly alternates between fast-motion and slow-motion.

Eventually, the Comedian’s assailant smashes Blake’s hand into the kitchen counter. Blake chokes out something along the lines of “It’s a joke. It’s all a joke. Mother forgive me…” A drop of blood falls on the smiley face pin (and a chill went down my spine), and the comedian is thrown out the window in ultra-slow motion. He falls to the ground below in a shower of shattered glass, as blood slowly engulfs the smiley face pin on the sidewalk.

The opening credits begin, a highly stylized and beautiful sequence which shows re-imaginings of moments from U.S. history (again, often in ultra-slow-motion) as Bob Dylan’s “The Times They Are a Changing” plays. JFK’s assassination is revealed to be Blake’s doing. We see the troubled household of a young Rorsharch. The Enola Gay drops a bomb on Hiroshima, and a different and much hotter version of the famous WWII victory kiss is shown between a dark-haired, goth-type woman (Silhouette) and a nurse. There is arguing in Silk Spectre’s household as the camera zeroes in on the television screen and we see the self-immolation Vietnam protest. The Minutemen are shown together at the beginning of the credits, but then later on are shown in various states of distress, or dead. “Happy retirement Silk Spectre” is shown as a “Last Supper” tableau.

Basically, the opening credits are an incredible visual wonder to behold, and if a Comic Con volunteer hadn’t tried to remove me from the hall for taking notes during the screening, I’d have even more to report. But I reveled in this sequence and I can’t wait to see it again.

The credits end and detectives show up at the crime scene and discuss Blake’s fate. A camera pull-out reveals a zeppelin advertising the Gunga diner flying slowly through the city. Then Rorschach shows up, his gruff, grizzled opening voiceover playing as he discovers the Comedian’s bloody smiley face button. On a big screen with a huge subwoofer blasting, the Rorschach voiceover is utterly badass. Rorschach delivers his classic monologue, which includes the lines: ”The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up against their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout ‘Save us!’… and I’ll look down and whisper, ‘no’.”  (again, another chill went down my spine). He uses his grappling hook to get up to the Comedian’s apartment and investigates the scene, discovering The Comedian’s costume and weapons in his closet.

The footage ends, and the audience goes wild. Then we were treated to one more “world premiere” scene:

This scene happens later on in the film. Rorschch is unmasked and in a prison dining hall line, a short man who’s a bundle of rage. Another prisoner begins, to taunt him and prepares to shiv him. As he’s about to make his attack, Rorschach counters with his meal tray, smashes open the sneeze guard glass in front of him, grabs a bucket full of grease from the fyrolator, and throws it all over the guy’s face. The camera pauses to let us revel in his agony. As the prison guards start to overtake him, Rorschach screams his classic line: ”You don’t seem to understand. I’m not locked in here you with you. You’re all locked in here with me!”

Watchmen is shaping up to be an pretty decent film, I dare say. I think I'm going to have to buy the complete novel and give it a read before I watch the film.

It's only a matter of time though before we see hundreds of kids running around in Rorshach masks spouting off one-liners without even beginning to understand the subtext of the book/movie (I doubt they would of read the novel, to be honest).

Yeah and then theres going to be the thousands of people dressed as Rorschach at the Comic Con too which sucks cause thats what I was thinking of doing. I figured Rorschach will be The Joker of this years con. Everyone and their mother dressed up like The Joker last year and 90% of The Joker's were Dark Knight ones.

I just finished reading the Watchmen graphic novel - stole was leant it by my brother. Really good read. I wonder how closely they're going to keep to the novel though, and how much they'll butcher it for the sake of appealing to the main-stream.

We'll see I suppose. turn.gif
