outcest Posted August 12, 2008 Share Posted August 12, 2008 i just finished reading the Watchmen for the first time....woo boy i'm basically as amped up on this film as i was for Dark Knight, perhaps even moreso, which is saying something. honestly...one of the best novels i've ever read. it's nice watching the trailer and noticing all the little things in the comic that they translated onto the screen...certain angles, scenes, etc.... and goddamn does Rorschach look sweet. and they successfully pulled off a cool-looking Nite Owl costume, no easy feat. 2009 couldn't come sooner. Nick Cannon has no place being in a zombie movie, and that last line at the end he says is just plain bad. Atleast the original was great. Agreed wtf is nick cannon doing in a zombie movie and those stupid sterotypical lines like "Why do you white people always want to split up" and "just because a black man has a pointy stick its a spear" is just f*cking retarded. Best case, Fox gets a share of the movie's profits. Fine, if you happen to be a WB shareholder that might be upsetting, but the rest of us peasants could care less as long as we get to cough up the cold green to see the movie. But the Fox lawyers say they actually want the movie yanked rather than just a cut of the cash. f*ck FOX. And f*ck FOX News, while we're at it. The dick is included in all it's glowing blue glory. It seems there was a test screening in Portland recently and despite all the non disclosure agreements signed, information is getting out about the whole film. The biggest change however...is the the giant squid from the end is not actually in it. Apparently the squid is replaced by a machine which Ozymandias and Dr Manhattan build. Nick Cannon is such an annoying little jackass, there were many parts during the movie where I just wanted to just beat the crap out of him. Other than that, it was an enjoyable zombie flick, and not as bad as a lot of people are making it out to be. I watched the original "Day", then the next day I watched the re-make. Don't consider it a true re-make because there's really not much in common between the two except for a few character names and they go to a bunker at the end of the movie. It's a fun zombie movie in it's own right, so I'd give it a 6/10. Once you get over the fact that this isn't really a serious high-budget movie like Dawn Of The Dead 2004 or 28 Weeks Later, you can enjoy it. Wouldn't that just cause a nuclear apocalypse? You know, when the Soviets and Americans assume they're under attack and retaliate? Maybe I'm wrong, but was there even an energy crisis in the comic book? I thought Manhattan solved that, all cars were running on electricity, and such. Why are they rewriting the story so much when they're clearly such awful writers!? The ending of the graphic novel was fine, I don't mind them replacing the "foreign creature" with something else, but the way they're doing it is just really unnecessary. That's ridiculous, the whole point of the squid was to make the earth unite against unknown forces and so, to end the Cold War. As Widow said, all they're doing is fueling the war. The ending of the novel blew me away, this just sounds stupid. I was really looking forward to the movie till I read this but you never know, things could change still. But to nitpick, I must say; do they not realise the blood splat on the smiley face is supposed to look like the hand of a clock? Wasn't that the whole point, that it's like the doomsday clock, counting down to Armageddon. That blood splat, while looking realistic, just doesn't scream "clock face" to me. Like it should.
