What I can say is that this is the worst review I have ever read. They didn't go in depth with why it was so bad, what the gameplay was like, graphics etc. It was clearly obvious to me that they took their frustration out of having to meet this deadline of completing and reviewing it by giving it a bad score. Let's hope IGN give a good and in-depth review

The problem for Rockstar when it brings GTA to PSP is that it's not in any sort of position to take the series forward in any way.

Meanwhile, games such as Scarface and Saints Row have been cherry-picking the best bits, trying to make games of the same scale but combined with greater ease of play.

Hmm... I think it's too early to judge his review, I mean none of us have played the game, so how can we judge his review to be bad. Yea the other sites gave it a bigger score. But there will always be differences in opinions and I don't think reviewers give grades just because they're evil... But I must admit he didn't get much into detail, in his judgement...

GamesRadar, never even heard of it. YoStone has a point, but, I hate reviewers, I take my own opinion on games. Like BLACK, got bad reviews, but I thought it kicked ass. Plus thi IS a GTA game, so it's good by default.

I've always trusted and visited GamesRadar as I thought they had one of the most best gaming coverage. Heck, they're hosted by the same company thats publishes several major gaming magazines (such as the Official UK PS2 Magazine and the PSM3 Magazine). However ever since I saw this half hearted review, my respect for them has greatly taken a deep plunge into the sea.

who the hell would pay someone to give a video game a bad review sorry an imperferfect review. you guys should really just respect the review for wat it is 8/10 isn't that bad and games radar obiously thought the game wasn't any better than 8, but wat i did find wierd was that it said the game was a technical acheivment

but in the scoresheet kind of thing 2/3 things they list as bad were technical anyway (loading times and retarded AI)

Heh, why don't you wait to play VC Stories as well? Of course you're gonna be waiting longer than us, seeing as how you don't have a PSP, but whatever.

 

Also, you're a bit vague here. Not very original in concept? How so? Do you mean, because it's a free roam title? Or because it revisits VC? It would be great if you could come out and say what you mean instead of ambiguous statements.... Your "not very original in concept" statement could have been made this Spring, when all we had was the name of the game, because it seems you're judging the originality/quality of the title solely on it's location. You should know that VC Stories is adding quite a lot to the GTA experience, and it's list of features can compete with any next/current gen free roam titles. So expect the review scores to be higher than LCS(which really didn't do anything terribly new for the series). I'd also like to add that there is only one score of 8.0 The other is 9.5. The other is from a trusted magazine, the former is from an obscure gaming site. I'll stick with the trusted magazine, k?

 

I think the bottom line is, you have a problem with the PSP GTA's. I don't know why....I mean, you did claim you were going to play it on your friend's PSP. So what's with all these snarky comments? First you were trying to claim that R*'s target audience with LCS/and VC Stories were not the same as the target audience for GTA 3, VC, and SA(at least that's how I took it), and that most of the members in the VC Stories forums were new. Well, no sh*t! Most of the members in the SA forum back in '04 were undoubtedly new. Most of the members in the LCS forum last year were newer members. See a pattern here? It seems as if these newer GTA's aren't good enough for you, or other older members. And I don't know what to make of your claim that VC Stories will be getting scores around 8.0(LCS had better review scores, sheesh.). I'm not trying to start an argument here, but what's the deal?

First off, whether I do or don't have a PSP has nothing to do with this...

 

NOW THEN.

 

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time came out the same day as Turok 2: Seeds of Evil for the N64. I was looking for a good FPS game after beating Goldeneye 007, and months before Turok 2 came out, I was very excited about it. I was so hyped. I bought both on the same day (Zelda and Turok), and was looking much more forward to Turok 2.

 

I soon found out that Turok 2 sucked, and that Zelda was amazing. I'll come back to why I said that later...

 

Now to your argument. Seriously...WE KNOW THE CONCEPT OF VICE CITY STORIES. WHY DO YOU ACT LIKE THE CONCEPT IS SOMETHING THAT WE WILL ONLY SEE WHEN WE OPEN THE BOX AND PUT THE GAME IN THE PSP ON OCTOBER 31? And yes, I had to type that in all caps to get across a point which, for some reason, seemed to be too much to handle.

 

Reasons why the concept is not original:

 

1. Fifth GTA game using the same graphics engine

2. Same physics as the past four GTA games (same basic system)

3. We've seen Vice City two times before already...

4. Recycled characters...again...

5. Recycled era. Don't give me that "but it's set TWO YEARS before maaann!" argument. It's two freaking years man...

6. With the recycled era comes the recycled idea to use 80's music. Will VCS have good music? Probably...but hits like Atomic or Kids in America from 2002's VC will always reign supreme.

7. Did I mention it was the fifth GTA game to use the same graphics engine?

 

Your argument about how I "should know that VC Stories is adding quite a lot to the GTA experience" makes me laugh AT you.

 

1. They claim they did a lot to make the water LOOK better. Looks to me like all they did was go into Photoshop and turn the darker blue VC water to lighter blue and made the water a bit clearer by changing one texture.

 

2. "Jetskis man!" I don't mean to sound like an ass, but who cares? I used a jetski in Waverace and Hydro Thunder on my N64, and I guarantee you that the Arcade experience of Hydro Thunder with the speakers behind my ears won't be beat by looking at a screen measured by single digit inches.

 

3. "Empire Building! I'm one of those people that always says 'I'm going to blow my load' when a new screenshot of VICE CITY stories comes out." Empire building sounds good I guess. It is, perhaps, the best thing to come out of VCS...but what else is there?

 

And you talk about how "LCS really didn't do anything terribly new for the series." That's very true, yes. It was interesting visiting the original city in this generation of consoles, though...but that was about it. It's almost as if Rockstar said "look, these fans just want some sort of GTA game on their PSP system...so let's give them the complete barebones GTA experience and then later on, we can add extra stuff to keep them coming back. They won't be able to resist Vice City Stories, I bet." Now don't get me wrong...I love Rockstar, and it is somewhat likely that at least one of their employees is reading this, so I would like to say first to them...hi...and second off, what happened after E3 this year? You know what I mean...

 

Lastly, your comment about GamesRadar being "an obscure gaming site" is untrue. GamesRadar was the only big game site that posted the San Andreas details from E3 2005 along with the fan sites. Websites like IGN, GameSpot, etc...were all late.

 

Sounds like a lot of hate, right? Well, it is not hate...it is moreover what I feel about the franchise right now. I don't think Rockstar ever thought that their PSP games in the GTA series would be absolutely stunning or anything like that...but moreover that they just wanted to give fans the GTA experience in a portable arena.

 

They aren't trying to reinvent the series with these "Stories" games. GTA III turned 5 years old only 5 days ago, and the same base graphics engine that was used with it is being used in a new game for the series...

 

Now back to Zelda/Turok. Bully is to Zelda as VCS is to Turok. Now calm down. I know you are huffing and puffing and want to yell "YOU CAN'T POSSIBLY COMPARE _______ TO _______." I am NOT comparing directly...I am making an analogy, and perhaps when you take the ACT in 10 years, you'll understand more about it.

Complete theme park with rollercoasters and other rides and games...school life...full town...vehicles...slingshots, firecrackers, egg cartons, baseball bats, skateboard, BMX, etc...
