Supdario
Um.......Could someone post or quote a step by step thing about how to be able to play vcs while being able to use cheat device? We don't know yet. Nobody with DevHook and who speaks English has the game yet. I know its been suggested and stated that VCS will run off the UMD when using Devhook to emulate 2.71 but can we get a general consensus that this is indeed truth? I'm not sure either. Has anyone run a 2.8 or 2.81 game in DevHook that did not need a patch, and did you have to dump the ISO and replace the PRXes, or did it work straight off the UMD? VCS is confirmed working with Devhook 0.46 with the 2.xx > 2.00 option chosen. This includes the UMD.VCS is confirmed working with the stock 2.71 custom firmware by DarK_AleX. This includes the UMD. What is your source? Me. I have got VCS US + a PSP with 1.5 Firmware + Devhook 0.46 with 2.71 firmware dump. I can be a beta tester.
Wesyeed
It'll certainly run in iso form just like the other 2.81 games. I know this first hand. What I wonder is if it was patched to be able to run like those other games. Not that it matters to me, but we still need tangible evidence that this can run from the UMD, I think. chrislawrance
there is no reason why VCS shudn't work on devhook emulating 2.0-2.71 as the only thing that stops a psp from launching a game with firmware above what the psp has is the SFO version. devhook changes the SFO to 2.00 on the devhook launch menu so therefore should run VCS. Well the UMD and DevHook 0.46 + FW 2.71 does not work for me. DH launches, restarts the PSP in the correct FW, then nothing. The game does not autostart. Settings as are follows: TARGET: Reboot UMD UMD-File: UMD-MODE: UMD Disk Ver 2.xx to 2.00 FW Path: ms0:/dh/271(MS Hook) CLOCK 222/111 REMOTE: Remote Controller PL_ADDR: 89000000 DH Ver: 0.46.0000 FW Ver: 1.05.0001 Please note that ANY change in BOOT SELECT (Reboot XMB/Reboot UMD/load run UMD/MPHGL or RunUMD) results in either the same (no autorun) or THE GAME COULD NOT BE STARTED 8002014E. Can someone PLEASE confirm that the UMD version works for them and with which settings? Thanks
romwack
DH launches, restarts the PSP in the correct FW, then nothing. The game does not autostart. Do you have 2.71 SE-x installed and are suppressing the power-on animation? Games don't autostart with this, you have to launch them from the XMB. VforV
if you wish to run devhook then you can update to 2.71 and use the instructions and eboots provided by me on page 4 of this topic p.s. eboots are not made by me. im just providing the links heres a quote saying what i said ok it appears that people are a lttile confused on how the cheats are run through 2.71. downgrading isnt neccesary 1.5 users use devhook 0.46 to emulate 2.71 and use the files edisoncarter is set to release. (patch may be required depending on firmware that VCS is released with) This may not be the fully final way that a VCS cheatdevice functions but running VCS through devhook is quite a likely path. Could you tell us some more about the 1.5 option? How do you have to set the settings in DevHook? I'm completaly confused.

PyroHazard
Ah, fickle. Yeah, so I got VCS today but I am too chickensh*t to upgrade to 2.81. Since I am on 2.6, do I have to go through all of the bullsh*t of downloading a custom firmware and using that in order to use Eddy's upcoming VCS CheatDevice? I ask because 2.8 has been decrypted and I assume the next logical step is to go for kernel exploits. Knowing my luck with electronics in general, I am not in the greatest of moods to potentially brick my sh*t.

-DeMoN-
Well I just got it an it doesnt work with Devhook. Looking around different forums, this seems to be the case for everyone in the US. The only thing that does work is the ISO with the update folder ripped. BUT this made me think. It the game requires nothing new from the 2.81 firmware, without the update it can run in 2.71. So, all we need is an option to tweak the firmware from 2.71 to 2.81. Devhook loads the 2.71 firmware, tweaks it to 2.81 and the game runs. This is just in theory, I dont know if it would even be possible to do. Maybe its even as simple as changing a file in the 2.71 dump? All I know is that if deleting the update folder lets it run, changing the firmware version (Not the actual firmware) to 2.81 would work.
VforV
God damn it. This makes me sick. I'm trying to run a 2.6 game with devhook, but I can't select firmware 2.71. The only firmware that I can see is my 1.5 firmware, that I have at this time. I just want to play LCS with cheatdevice (just to take screenshots), Worms Open Warfare (runs on 2.6) and VCS (runs on 2.81). Can somebody please help me to install everything correctly? How come I don't see fw 2.71 in the FIRMWARE menu of DevHook 0.46?
johneverett
I have a psp 2.5 and i use the cheatdevice with lcs fine. but I run mac osx and i dont get the Dev Hook thing. if I am right i cant use Dev Hook on mac. should i go a head and update so i can play VCS? i hate to lose lcs device. edisoncarter
@DeMoN - I've got the same problem. I got the disk, but the game ignores DevHook's 2.xx -> 2.00 trick and asks for the update anyway. Check out this article. Maybe you have to emulate 2.71 SE: http://my.qj.net/category/Hacks-Exploits/cid/58 Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories can be played on 1.50 and 2.71 SE and HEN!Posted Oct 31, 2006 at 12:40PM by Muratcan Listed in: Firmware, Hacks & Exploits, Games, PSP, Vice City Stories Tags: DevHook Yes you read the title correctly. Officially, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories requires 2.81. But emulating 2.71 via Devhook and choosing the option where you trick the games requirement (2.XX>2.00) will allow the game to be run on 1.50 and 2.71 (SE and HEN). So there is no need to update to play Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories.
-DeMoN-
@edison - I think thats saying it works if you boot up Devhook from fw 1.5 or the custom firmware 2.71 SE. But I also think they're referring to the ISO, because we know it doesnt work with Devhook on fw 1.5. I really think all it might need is a simple trick of the firmware version. edison I know you've made prx's before and I have no idea what kind of mechanics are behind it, but is it possible through a prx to do something like change the PSP's firmware to 2.81 like the old WAB Version Changer? I really cant think of anything else to do.

edisoncarter
I agree, it's only the firmware version check that's holding it back. It would run without modification otherwise. If you dump your disk to an ISO, it'll run without any modifications. The disk swap trick would probably work. Start a lower firmware disk and right after it starts loading, pop it out and put in the VCS disk. I wonder if 2.71 SE has the firmware check disabled, or an option for it to be? It shouldn't be hard for emulated firmware to be hacked to disable the firmware check. Edit: Could someone please read the thread for that QJ story I linked to? It probably says what to do. http://forums.qj.net/f-psp-firmware-discus...-hen-76489.html Edited October 31, 2006 by edisoncarter
-DeMoN-
I've been following that thread and there isnt anything on how to get it run with the UMD disc. The topic was started when we found out the French version worked with Devhook, so that thread doesnt apply to the US version. I tried a UMD swap trick and it didnt work. I dont have enough room to dump an ISO so im sort of SOL. Its such a simple problem that needs to be overcome, yet we dont have a way around it right now. Its pretty frustrating. Im staying patient though, I refuse to upgrade.

Man it sucks having VCS and not being able to play it! There are for fw 1.5, but after you do that then load Devhook, the 2.71 firmware loads within the 1.5 firmware and therefore the changed 1.5 firmware doesnt apply to the one being emulated. If we had a simple program to tweak the emulated 2.71 firmware to 2.81, it would work, but we dont have any homebrew like that running on 2.71 yet. Im thinking there may be a file within the 2.71 firmware files that controls the firmware version number, but I dont know if its possible to edit or even where it is. PyroHazard
Yeah, I bit the bullet and upgraded. xFinch713x
yeah, i asked harleyg, where the firmware version was stored, so we could edit the file to say "2.81" instead of 2.71, then get the umd to load
edisoncarter
I will have a VCS CheatDevice release real soon! Since we haven't found the addresses for anything yet, the built in cheats will be disabled to start with and it'll just be the Cheat Maker features, so this will be a developer release. As addresses get found, and it won't take long, I'll enable the features. Yeah, I bit the bullet and upgraded. Mostly because I cannot for the life of me wrap my head around using a custom firmware application. I'll be (im)patiently waiting until 2.81 is cracked, hacked, and raped of it's worth. That's discouraging... all you have to do is emulate 2.71 through DevHook. For the moment you have to dump the ISO, but then it works without a hitch. It took over a year for the last kernel exploit. It's likely we will be playing GTA4 on the PS3 before 2.81 is cracked, if ever.
