The San Andreas minimal kill challenge!

Hey Balatro,

Quite frankly, I'm amazed that you're doing it a second time!

Nah...I'm done with it now!

Suggestion for Pier 69: Maybe if you crash and somehow cause your helicopter to explode at the enemies, you can lower your kill count. The 6 Rifas may be immune-to-nonplayer, but a good explosion should wipe them out, assuming the Triads backup lasts that long. Radicell, did you helicopter by any chance blow up that time you claimed to have lowered your count to 4 kills?

I've done this by shooting the maverick with the sniper 12 times before triggering the mission. It takes a high level of precision to land the maverick and get out before it explodes. In my game it killed all three Rifas on the left. I shot the 3 remaining Rifas on the right and got the mission failed cut-scene. I was either two slow (by a fraction) or this mission works the same way as a gang war. I then went to get a mini-gun (not easy under MKC conditions) but never managed to replicate the results. Mainly because I got fed up of playing the same mission for 4 days! Even if it is possible and you get past the first stage you still have to turn the boat over later in the mission.

My next mission isn't green goo and I'm definitely not still trying to beat the lowest recorded score of 72 for Vigilante using a combination of Brown Thunder and the Extreme Exploding Car Trick.

Jasper Petrol

Minigun, not easy? Wouldn't it be impossible? The only way you could've gotten a minigun before entering LV is the one on Kincaid Bridge - and I believe that one is blocked by an invisi-barrier?

Good luck on your second trial, Jasper. What's the extreme exploding car trick?

I entered LV with a Maverick and landed on the building site. It is possible to do this because the mini-gun is so close to the boundary. Then climb up the platforms to the mini-gun's location. You can jump across at the corner sections to go up one level at a time (it is quite tricky) My original plan was to land on the top and just get out but I fell down to the ground! (just my luck). Luckily I was able to evade the cops, even with a level 4.

It is just a case of running back to the water and swimming towards LS (under the bridge) The wanted level drops to three about half way across. I think there is a bribe close by that brings it down to two. Save in the small place that I've forgotten how to spell! (near Hank Panky Point)

I did this on the second attempt after getting shot in the water on the first. That is how I got the mini-gun (which I never used). In fact (without checking) I think this might actually be a breach of the MKC rules anyway.

Well, I call it the Extreme Exploding Car Trick when you trap as many people as possible below the one vehicle. Maybe even try to cram a cop (or two) under there as well! icon14.gif

Indeed, the second rule states:

No early trips to any unopened areas! That means any area that would give you the automatic four star rating. This includes the Reuniting the Families Exploit and the Da Nang Thang Exploit! However, I'll permit entry into airports before getting the pilot's license. And of course you can go over any bodies of water you want, as long as you don't trigger the four-star thing.

Don't think it's THAT big a deal though. Perhaps you have saves from before acquiring the minigun?

With a lot of persistence and luck, I've finally overcome Pimping! I've realized that the reason behind my previous failures was the "Look Behind" function. Apparently looking behind causes certain side-missions to fail instantly without reason. Once I deactivated my "Look Behind" button, I was okay! Then, it took a few runs along the Strip before I got 10 levels with only 2 problem customers and both were non-paying ones.

And so, with that I have finished the San Andreas Minimal Kill Challenge with a final score of 193 kills!

Just Business 7
Doberman 3
Reuniting the Families 11
Are You Going to San Fierro? 1
Supply Lines 2
Pier 69 6
Vigilante 73
Freefall 5
Breaking the Bank at Caligula's 20
Home Coming 3
Beat Down on B Dup 3
Grove 4 Life 12
Territories 36
End of the Line 9
LS Gym 1
LV Gym 1
total = 193

It feels good to have this challenge done. Perhaps, over the next few days (or years), I will try to get that End of the Line down to 8 (3 part 1, 5 part 0), although in theory it can be done in 5. I'd like to thank rubregg, HolyGrenadeFrenzy, and especially Jasper Petrol for help during this challenge. I'd also like to thank balatro for inventing it. And I'd also like to ask balatro, to update the leaderboard. wink.gif

I've never heard of this problem before.

This is a very impressive score. Well Done! (you will never be the same again). You've also managed to make a fancy table to display all your mission scores!

I'd also like to ask Balatro, to update the leaderboard

I heard a rumour that Balatro has joined a religious cult and shaved off all his hair.

Hey, I resent that! I'll have you know that I left half a mohawk on my scalp, according to the strict ordinances of my cult leader!! tounge.gif

Congratulations, Radicell. Leaderboard has been updated.

I know what you mean -- right now, I'm sitting at 250 kills, and haven't had the time to go through End of the Line yet. Maybe after I graduate from my MBA program in April I'll have more time. Jasper Petrol was right -- MBA IS much hard than this challenge! biggrin.gif

Jasper Petrol was right

People don't say that very often.

The tear gas canister trick made a lot of difference to the total kills.

Perhaps you may have been wondering what I've been doing recently? Oh...well I will tell you anyway. I started playing Vice City again a few months ago and have set about the Vice City Minimal Kill Challenge. I didn't find any strategy guides so have had to work it all out as I go along. It's fairly tough...so I wrote it all down just in case anyone else wants to have a go at it! I'm thinking about starting a blog or something...there's pages of scribble billowing out of my house.

I'm currently trying to figure out Naval Engagement.

Re: GTA IV - I bought a new PC in December but it was a pile of...well it didn't work properly to put it mildly. I sent it back for a refund but the company is corrupt and it looks like I might have to take them to court.

There should be tougher penalties for depriving a gamer of his hardware.

I'm actually going nuts (I really am)

[or am I?] in square brackets...

Believe it or not, I actually played Vice City with the minimal kill thing privately on my own before touching San Andreas. I've since uninstalled Vice City from my computer, but my score was between 1400-1500. I know that I can shave at least 100 of that figure if I tried harder. I can't remember Naval Engagement well enough, so sorry, can't really help there!

If you ever get about to posting a thread on it (or building on Demarest's old thread), here are a couple things to note:

1) The PS2 version has the tear gas canister as a pickup behind the police station in Washington Beach, while the PC version has a grenade. This may or may not make a significant difference, since I have no idea if the Tear Gas Canister trick works in Vice City. It might be a good idea to set a separate ladder for the different platforms in this case, or to ban the usage of the tear gas canister to level the playing field.

2) Some versions of Vice City removed the rampages. Since you can minimize the number of kills you have to do on rampages (i.e. no collateral damage, and blowing up vehicles without drivers in them where applicable), it might again be a good idea to set a separate ladder -- or to permit versions with rampages to deduct rampage kills from their kill count. In this case, though, I think it would be easier to set a separate ladder.

Officially restarting the challenge. I'm still around Los Santos right now, the usual painful ones were quite easy this time around. Just Business especially, I finished it with two tries, getting the minimal 7 kills. A few more missions 'til the Badlands.

I'm aiming for a new score of 185.

Update 06/25

I have completed Reuniting the Families, with 10 kills, down from the previous standard, 11. That one kill that I shaved off was the helicopter pilot that Sweet shoots down. You have to trigger the next cutscene before the helicopter hits the ground, at which point the kill is counted. So if you trigger the cutscene before that, you won't get that kill. Current kill count: 20

Update 06/27

I'm in San Fierro right now, getting started on the Jizzy/Syndicate missions. Although I haven't yet done Supply Lines, I plan to do that next. Current kill count: 21

Update 06/29

I have finished Zero's missions (and gained 2 kills from Supply Lines), and I passed the mission Jizzy on the first try with no kills. The escorts fishtailed during the chase and ended up in the drink. I had to follow the limo all the way to Flint County for it to spin out at the hairpin bends and crash into the waters of Easter Bay Airport. Current kill count: 23

Update 06/30

I've completed Pier 69 with only 3 kills! I threw a burning helicopter at some of the Rifas, which killed them. Current kill count: 26

Update 07/01

Da Nang Thang is a bit of a pain, since my game is glitched in that fire extinguishers don't spawn at restaurants, which means I have to go find another extinguisher to complete the mission properly. I won't have access to my game during July, however, but I'll be back playing in August. Current kill count: 26

Well, I've finally done it -- finishing my own minimal kill challenge!

After repeating End of the Line over and over again, I couldn't do better than 19 kills. Seeing as how many people have already finished it, I figured it's high time I throw in the towel and give it up.

So...my final kill count is at 269 kills. My kill breakdown for the final mission is as follows:

End of the Line, Part I (Getting to Big Smoke): 15 <-- this should be lower but for an accident with the rocket launcher while fighting Big Smoke, killing several of his guards plus seriously hurting myself at the same time.

End of the Line, Part II (Escaping from Big Smoke's HQ): 0

End of the Line, Part III (Chasing Officer Tenpenny): 4

Total: 19

I'll post a short blurb on the spoiler thread some time soon.

It's good to see you finally made it through balatro. It was a good idea, so it's cool to see you saw it through.

I came to the conclusion that I don't like being as careful as I would need to be to do the challenge myself, but the whole idea is pretty interesting, so I've been following the thread since the beginning.

Thanks for bringing us this twist on the game.

Well done Balatro! 19 kills for End of the Line made me laugh...that is a difficult mission for this challenge and it comes at point when you just want to quit. It's a real killer.

I finally got my PC built and have been playing GTA IV for a few weeks now.

Next time you have one these mad ideas...

Yeah, I know what you mean. It was simply getting to embarrassing to NOT not finish a challenge that one has set himself. So I had to do it.

For some reason, I had a very tough time for the first floor. I'm always badly damaged by the security checkpoint (the 3rd and 4th baddies you encounter respectively). Luring the bad guys in the big room to the corridor is also very iffy for me. I can handle one or two of them no problem, but inevitably a few of them suddenly rush me and then I'm dead meat. A shame really since I can do the rest of the mission with zero kills. As I indicated, 19 was kinda inflated because I let lose a rocket by mistake in Big Smoke's room.

Oh well...at least I can confirm that 4 seems to be the minimal kill count for Part III of EOTL. Depends greatly on luck, though.

Well... I tried like a million times and could only get 6. Do you know which two kills you shaved off? Or were you too caught up in the excitement to notice?

Anyhow, congrats, balatro, on finishing the challenge.

I would also believe that just walking/running by them would help, especially if you have the 150% Body Armour.

Really? Strange. For me, I can get 4 kills about 1 in 3 times. There is one police car that flips over that accounts for two kills, but sometimes it unloads from memory before it explodes, saving you the two kills.

Personally, the most reliable way I've found to do EOTL Part 3 is to shoot at nothing but the motorcycle riders. Your car will take massive damage, but you just have enough health in the car to make it to the end (usually about 1/8 health left for me).

Wow, so you mean it simply disappears before it explodes? That's great news, I guess. Might dig up my old files and give EOTL3 another shot.

Meanwhile, balatro, you might want to update the help thread a bit with methods to reduce 1 kill from Reuniting the Families, as well as 3 kills from Pier 69. I've described them in this post.

I've recently been doing the GTA 4 'crimeless challenge' as some people have called it in the GameFAQS board, and I must say, it really changes the way you look at the game! I'm going to try this minimal kill challenge in San Andreas ASAP.

Update -- does anyone still read this thread anymore?

I've been playing sporadically over the past months, and I've gotten up to Learning to Fly, with a kill-count of 26. These come from: 7 Just Business, 3 Doberman, 10 Reuniting the Families, 1 Are You Going to San Fierro?, 2 Supply Lines, and 3 Pier 69.

Check out this post for some new tips/strategies I discovered.
