The San Andreas minimal kill challenge!

my kill count is still 29, i cant remember how it breaks down, mission by mission.  I drove back to LS and did 8-track also, but forgot to mention it in my previous post.  I'm stuck on mountain cloud boys/outrider/supply lines.  How the hell do you have 132 kills, even with the 78 from the vigilante I'd still have 107.  I've done all the side missions that are unlocked except for vigilante, pimping, and blood bowl, so your just about at the same place I'm at, I'm confused.

Well, my kill count is no longer 132, but 138 now. The breakdown is as follows, and in roughly the order I got them:

Kills made during missions

1 - Los Santos Gym (1)

3 - Pimping (4)

81 - Vigilante (85)

8 - Just Business (93)

3 - Doberman (96)

12 - Uniting the Families (108)

1 - Small Town Bank (109)

1 - Are You Going to San Fierro (110)

5 - Jizzy (115)

7 - Mountain Cloud Boys (122)

4 - Supply Lines (126)

6 - Pier 69 (132)

Other kills

2 - Car flipped over and exploded on highway around the Montgomery Intersection (134)

1 - Ran over cop when I (ironically) clipped a police car and spun out (135)

3 - Unknown. I suspect one is during City Slicking. Since my speakers are dead, I have been discovering that I sometimes run over peds without noticing, due to lack of sound effect. Usually, I catch this sort of thing before saving, but I guessed I must have missed it. As for the other two, I have no idea whatsoever -- it happened pretty early in my game, though. (138)

So that's how my kills break down so far. I know that for some of them, I can definitely improve on my score, but I really don't have the time -- I'm spending too much time on this as it is! So I have bit the bullet and let my score stand as it is.

I have finished all of the Syndicate missions up to "Pier 69", and all of the Triads missions up to "Amphibious Assault". I also completed the NGR-500 challenge -- a royal pain in the butt that was! tounge.gif As indicated, I have racked up six more kills, and those are the 6 necessary kills from the mission "Pier 69". I will be posting in the help thread shortly to detail how to do some of those missions.

Edit: I have been trying to figure out how to do Toreno's Last Flight without getting any kills -- apparently, Demarest was able to pull this off, while imut_knight needed 1 kill. How did you guys do this? The helicopter has to be brought down, and there is at least two guys on it (the pilot and the gunner -- not sure if there is more than one gunner), so I'm at a lost right now.

Further Edit: Just noticed I got some of my numbers wrong...oops. It's fixed now.

About this mission, if you keep following the copper, it will lead you to your safehouse on top of the hills (I dont remember the area). The game will prompt you that is was an ambush, and more than one gunners will get off the copper. Once the copper fly again, you will lose the mission.

I dont remember how I got only 1 kill in this mission lol.gif , I'll try to redo this mission and post the result.

Now I am stuck on the Da Nang Thang. I did manage to get the one kill, only for me to wipe out someone accidentally while on my way to the save point. angry.gif Since then, I haven't been able to replicate it with much success.

Anyone managed to kill the Snakehead other than by crashing a Maverick into him? This is proving to be hard as heck to reproduce successfully, and a easier method would be much appreciated.

Time for a bump/update:

I have finished all missions in San Fierro, including the Wang Autos set of mission. I still need to do Monster, but am busy collecting cars for the Import/Export crane in Easter Basin Docks (I'm almost done List 2).

My kill count now sits at 141, up 3 from my last report. They come from:

Toreno's Last Flight - 1 kill here. See the spoiler thread for how I pulled this off. I tried to use Demarest's method (again, see the spoiler thread), but I could never seem to inflict enough damage. As for HolyGrenadeFrenzy's method, I did not even try it because it seems very difficult. However, I have included his strategy in the spoiler thread if any of you should want to try it out.

The Da Nang Thang - 2 kills here. The frustrating thing here is that I actually pulled off the minimal 1 kill (see spoiler thread), but on my way to the save point, I accidentally clipped a car and spun out into a pedestrian. I have not been able to reproduce the one kill since then, and in the interests of moving on, I've decided to accept the two kills and move on.

Time for yet another bump/update:

Finished off the Import/Export Crane. Also finished the Trucking and Freight Train side-missions, and got the Boat School out of the way.

Finished the first two Toreno missions without any kills, but I'm now stuck on 'Interdiction'. Both Demarest and imut_knight got zero on this mission (apparently), but I can't seem to figure out how they pulled it off, as usual. However, in this case, I have a promising lead or two that I have yet to follow up, so maybe one of those will pan out.

My kill count still sits at 141.

As for "Interdiction", as soon as the choppers show up, get back to your Shancez and jump with your shancez to the river (lake) below the canyon. Swim below the small dock (to avoid the shooting form the choppers) near the cabin, near Vortex spawn point.

The point is to make the choppers drown in the water. The chopers will try to shoot you and will follow you at the same height as you. This will make they drown. Also dive to make sure theyre drown. smile.gif

But i remember 3 out of 4 chopper will follow you to the water, while 1 chopper will keep shooting on the target chopper, but somehow will disappear itself, so try to keep doing the mission.

Later you will find some mission with chopper or airplane can be done this way, by drowning them into the water. smile.gif

Well, I gave your suggestion a try...and it is indeed the case that 3 out of the 4 helicopters come after you and conviniently drown themselves.

However, I can't seem to make the 4th helicopter "disappear", despite repeating this mission quite a number of times. Where exactly is this Vortex spawn point that you are referring to? Which small cabin are you talking about?

As for the 4th chopper, maybe it is random, maybe because youre move far enough from it, just keep trying smile.gif

Bump! Sad to see this one die.

Many people had asked me about Windshield and since until today, this thread was the official thread for release shots of it, I thought I'd mention it's been released. Release thread here. Please keep all comments, questions, and bug reports in THAT thread. Thank you.

[EDIT]

I was just reading over some of the posts that I missed. As far as Supply Lines goes, IIRC, if you shoot a vehicle to the point of it catching fire, but don't shoot it to the point of explosion, and you are far enough away when it explodes "naturally," then you don't get credit for the kill. This means that if you were to maintain a large enough distance with the plane, you could forego all kills. Of course setting the bike on fire from such a distance would have to be next to impossible.

Hi all,

Sorry about me not posting here for a while, but "Real Life" got in the way.

Anyway, I now have 147 kills, up 6 from the last time I reported.

4 - Interdiction. Yes, I know a zero kill is possible in this mission, but I found it too hard to pull off. So what I ended up doing was drowning 3 out of the 4 helicopters, and then using a rocket to shoot down the last one. I was far enough away that the pilot's death did not register, but the four gunmen on the helicopter were still marked onto my death bill. Oh well.

2 - Learning to Fly. Or more specificly, the lesson "Destroy Targets". I had thought that blowing up the moving cars wouldn't cost you any kills, but apparently they cost 1 each. And since you have to blow up ALL vehicles (moving or otherwise) to pass this lesson, I don't see how the two kills can be avoided. Anyone of you that has managed to pull this off have any comment?

I had already documented that this isn't true. It's not easy to pull off, but you can.

The trick is to from a distance so far away you won't be able to see fire, ONLY shoot the vehicles enough to make them catch fire. The driver will bail, but will die in the proximity blast of the vehicle. Anytime you catch a vehicle on fire from this distance, you are not credited with the kill. This would be easier if there were only one, but there's two, which is where the challenge comes in.

Ah. I didn't know that trick applied to the Hunter's machine guns as well. I guess I should have used that instead of the rockets. tounge.gif Oh well, at least I got gold on it the first try, so I'll consider that a small consolation prize.

I've also replayed this test on a different save that's not related to this challenge, and I found that sometimes, the drivers actually manage to clear the blast radius after they bail out. So even if you are close enough to see the flames, not all hope is lost. Needless to say, luck plays a rather large role if one is relying on them to clear out before the big kablooie. biggrin.gif

Just read about this and started. Did Big Smoke and the taxi missions with one kill. (I ran someone over sad.gif )

Edit: Turns out you didn't need 50 fares...oh well, I did it anyway.

You do if you want 100%.

Also, if you run somebody over, you should reload. The point is for the least amount of kills wink.gif

I know, I can read. tounge.gif I've already restarted though.

And I found out about that taxi thing, I was looking under "Odd Jobs" on gtasanandreas.net and it didn't say anything so I assumed it wasn't needed.

Glad to see there is new blood coming into this competition. smile.gif

I've also updated the latest minimal kill challenge help thread with remarks about 'Interdiction'.

And time for a quick update: my kill count is now 148, up 1 from last report. That 1 kill? That'd be the poor trainer in Below the Belt Gym, who I had to waste before he would teach me his kickboxing moves.

Bah, got pissed at the ambulance missions, went on a rampage and ended up starting over. Back at 0 kills for me. biggrin.gif

Heh...get used to the frustration. smile.gif 100% takes quite a while even under normal circumstances, so going for the Minimal Kill Challenge is definitely a test of your patience. Don't forget about the spoiler thread (see 1st post for the link) if you are really stuck or want some hints. smile.gif

Good luck!

Would this work under the exploding car trick; You run someone over, so they're stuck under the car, and you shoot the car until it explodes.

Every single post you've ever made was a joke. I doubt that out of nowhere, you've completed the task. Stop spamming up a serious topic, particularly one based on the honor system.

Well, I started and already had some very frustrating incidents. Worst one yet - a killed ped during my 43th taxi fare angry.giflol.gif

So I'm currently at 'Tagging Up Turf' with all tags sprayed and I did Burglary. I took the rule about not exploiting vehicle missions for cash to the extreme and stopped burglary after 23 stolen items, which is the minimum you need to get over $10.000 and the infinite sprint wink.gif. Taxis, courier, bmx next to come...

Where do you see burglaries? I may be blind, but is it just a side thing that's not needed, like unique stunts?

Burglary is *not* needed for 100%, but if you steal things for more than $10.000 you'll get rewarded with infinite sprint. You can run forever without getting tired & I find this generally very useful.

And what exactly is the breakdown of your kills?

Ah, sh*t, looks like I'll do em then. biggrin.gif

Yeah, good idea. smile.gif

Even though Burglary is not needed for 100%, it's very useful for its Infinite Sprint award. I did it myself, and I think so far everyone who has done this competition has done it as well.

Also, quick update on my status: As you can no doubt tell from my update on the help thread, I have manage to beat 'Stowaway' with 0 kills. I'm right now trying to get all those Race Tournaments out of the way before resuming the storyline missions. Here's to hoping that I don't wipe out too many people during my races. tounge2.gif

Those tags took longer than I thought. Especially when you got 99 and have to open up a map and go to each location until you find one tounge.gif
