Kippers
Sorry guys i've been trying to post this for ages now but with the forum being slow etc havnt been able to. This isnt the most amazing chapter so far but i'd gotten writers block and couldnt think what to put next in this particular point of th story. And as i had to get something out this weekend i thought it would do. so i hope you enjoy what's there 12 The afternoon sky was cloudless the sun shine down amongst the trees of Mossflower country. The birds were high above the trees scouting the free air above, on watch for prey and predator alike, not straying far from their nests and young ones screaming in hunger and thirst, hidden within the think layers of leaves, hidden from any danger. Below, inside the red sandstone abbey, all was peaceful and happy; no beast had a bad word to say about any other beast within the four walls. The abbey dibbuns played with themselves near the abbey pond stretching out their arms in attempts to catch the large trout toying with the young beasts, splashing in and out of the water skilful, flicking its tail and splashing, blinding the dibbuns when they reached out. ‘Cum here you fatty trouty!’ ‘’E can’t splash furever. ‘E gotta get tired sometime an’ give up!’ ‘yeah! That’s when we grab ‘im and ‘ave him fur our sooper!’ One dibbun reached out and almost grabbed a hold of the abbey trout. Slipping out between his paws the trout lost interest and swam to the bottom of the pond. ‘’E think he can get ‘way from us dibbuns. We’zs trained fishy catchers we are!’ The whole group of dibbuns jumped up and down in agreement. They all bent down and leaned over the side of the pond, arm deep in water searching for the hidden trout. ‘Cum out fishy fishy!’ Mother Latmus strolled poast and scooped the babes out of the water and smiled as she moved them into the orchard. ‘You’ll never catch him young ones,’ the mighty badger miss placed them on the ground next to a basket of freshly picked berries and apples, ‘he’s been here too long to fool for the old tricks, as wise as any brother or sister in the abbey. He was even around when they were your young ages.’ ‘We ain’t no normal dibbs mother, we’re Redwalls greatest ever to liven dubberns we are! We gots trained by the best. Give us another chance an’ we coulda catched him!’ Another exuberant cheer came from behind the dibbun leader as his little followers jumped up and down. ‘And who do you think the old Abbot and Matthias were taught by to catch the trout?’ The badger mother pointed out, ‘If the best can not teach the best, then how can you become the best trout catchers of Redwall?’ The dibbuns ceased jumping and fell quiet, their smiles turning into frowns. The Abbey orchard fell silent for a moment and the dibbuns looked at each other sni**ering. ‘Get ‘er!’ The leader of the pack yelled. His followers buried their paws into the over flowing baskets and started pelting the badger mothers waist with fruits and berries. Playing along with the dibbuns games, the badger started to run along around the abbey main courtyard, pleading for help from passers-by. ‘Oh please do help Abbotess, I’m in fear of dying under the dark wrath of dibbun king Fletch and his menacing crew of followers!’ The Abbotess smiled and ignored her pleads. ‘So how are you today then mother? Getting enough exercise these days?’ ‘Please miss,’ she begged mockingly as she lead the dibbun gang in circles around the crop patches, ‘I thought this was meant to be a place of peace and harmony, where we each helped one another in their time of need, vermin or otherwise.’ The Abbotess chuckled and walked towards the rowdy youngsters. ‘Ok young ones, time for a nap. Lets leave poor old mother to rest, she’s had all the excitement she can handle for one afternoon with you lot,’ the mother badger was leaning against a fork in the ground with her back arched rubbing a sore back, ‘heavens knows what might happen if you were left with these beasts all day long.’ ‘May I hope I never live to answer your question Abbotess.’ With a resulting smile, the Abbotess led the dibbuns off into their dormitory moaning. ‘Addot! We coulda ‘ad fishy fur supar!’ The voices trailed off as she closed the great doors behind her. As she reappeared, she closed the door gentle behind her so as not to disrupt the sleeping babes and wondered into the great hall, long bench set out across the length of the floor, waiting for a feast to be laid upon its surface. Matthias coughed. The Abbotess walked up behind him, paws quiet on the ground but still echoing around the big, empty room. Matthias’ gaze was transfixed on something hung on one of the walls of the great hall. a cloth hung loose hanging from the ceiling sown by bare paw many seasons ago by mothers and fathers long since perished with old age and battle. Flapping in the wind of the jarred door, it created a hypnotic pattern among the stitches of shining armour on breast plates and the keen sharpness of sword edges and the proudness upon the stitched mouse face as he leaned against the legendary sword, the true protector of Redwall Abbey, long gone in battle, standing tall against his blade with pride as he watches the four walls from beyond the grave. Martin the Warrior, a true hero, a salute from any beast who hears his name, from the waves of the sea and wind of the North Mountain tips. Even those who stood against him shiver at the sound of his long gone name. Memories passed down through generation to generation but his stories and adventures never lost, never changing, Martin the Warrior, watching over all beast at Redwall. The abbotess rested her paw on Matthias’s shoulder. The old mouse seemed to awaken from a deep sleep and turned his head to face the Abbotess. ‘Do you remember the legends of Martin Abbotess?’ ‘I was not around at the time of the great warrior.’ ‘Neither was I, yet a remember the tales well, as if I were there along side the great mouse when fighting for the abbey and the beasts inside.’ ‘Many a story was told to me as a young mouse.’ Said the Abbotess quietly, ‘some real some of fiction, the latter of which I tended to enjoy most because the warrior always came out on top and victory always rained supreme of evil.’ ‘But it is not how it goes; eventually evil will persist and win.’ But those where he won delayed in my mind the truth of his sadly missed life in this land.’ Matthias looked back at the tapestry and sighed with a smile on his face. ‘I remember many a moon ago when I was but a young, naïve mouse novice, trampling about in my novices green habit, sandals upon my feet which did not fit me for life and dreams of becoming like Martin, fighting for the Abbey and its people, having a responsibility. It was my dream to wield his great sword one last time before laying it to rest forever more in the ground.’ ‘And from what I heard from the late Abbot Mortimer,’ The Abbotess spoke, stepping closer to Matthias and staring up at the tapestry herself, ‘you became the hero you wanted to be and more, defeating the devilish Cluny.’ ‘Yes, you are right Abbotess.’ ‘And you found your son Mattimeo. That is more than any beasts in this abbey can ask for. To be reunited with his son once more to live a full and happy life ever more.’ ‘That was a great day for me.’ Matthias sighed. ‘It was a great day for all of us at the abbey back in the day I can only imagine.’ But Abbotess,’ the old mouse paused for a few minutes and stared at the ground, ‘I feel empty, like something is missing from my past.’ ‘What do you mean Matthias?’ ‘The great Martin does not visit me in my sleep anymore. For seasons this has been the case, not a single sign of life inside my head. Am I not worthy of his presence Abbotess?’ He turned again to look at her, ‘do I not deserve his wise advice and guiding footsteps?’ There was silence as the Abbotess thought to herself, and then she looked down at Matthias. ‘When you are needed he will come, believe me.’ ‘But how can you be so sure?’ ‘Martins soul has never left a Redwall beast unguided in their time of need. When your presence is requested, he will surly come to you in your sleep and guide you towards your new destiny Matthias.’ There was more silence as Matthias grunted slightly and nodded his head in agreement. ‘Now come!’ she broke the silence ‘I hear the dibbuns have a surprise awaiting us this evening. It will surely be fun.’ And with one last look at the tapestry on the wall the old mouse Matthias and the Abbotess of Redwall abbey walked out of the great hall and into the main grounds. 習うより慣れろ

Nick000
Nice chapter, you're bringing some type of lengendary figure into the story, most everyone does bring him/her into their story.
Kippers
Nice chapter, you're bringing some type of lengendary figure into the story, most everyone does bring him/her into their story. except the legendary figure is dead and has been dead for a really really long time. Plus every book (After Martin the warrior) mentions him someplace 9Arch can back me up on that) so i thought i'd continue the tradition. 習うより慣れろ
