Things you love and hate about LCS

Recommended Posts

Nick Papagiorgio

LIKE:

-I kind of enjoyed the story, but it could have been better.

-the recreation of Liberty City.(ex-Ft.staunton before & after)

Dislike:

-Toni's bike skills( even at low speeds, he flies off)

-The weird characters(JD O'Toole, Giovanni Casa)

Otherwise, LCS was a all-around "worth it" game for me.

($20 bucks for PS2, good buy smile.gif )

JD and Giovanni were great. I love Rockstar's deranged character creations. The JD cutscenes (especially him in the S&M outfit where he tries to hug Toni) are the stuff of GTA legend.

I hated the storyline the most. It was boring. No climax, no surprises

I'd be surprised if my mom put out a contract on me...

Actually, I just didn't like Vincenzo Cilli, he was an a**hole.

I could tolerate JD and Casa, but I disliked Vincenzo.

The other characters were great.

I especially liked the more psychotic, cannabilistic Donald Love in contrast to his GTA III self.

lol, yea i guess that was a surprise.

but the way it was presented was so shallow. and it wasnt a fully animated cutscene. i hated how some cutscenes were just "half-animated"... no movielike atmosphere. boring

if only the characters were more developed. i think one simple way (but of course takes time and money) is to make more cutscenes. most of them in LCS were superficially done. vincenzo's death shouldve been portrayed like smoke or tenpenny's death.

Agreed.

If you look about ten posts before yours, I've already stated this too.

Hopefully VCS will have no half-animated cutscenes.

I'm gonna be the odd man out here and say that I actually liked the radio stations, they reminded me of the first couple weeks or so playing GTAIII when it first came out... you can't keep from laughing at a song called: "Are you Gonna Go Down On Me?"

I also liked the fact that not only did we get motorcycles in this one, but that there was such a wide selection of them, and they were all pretty decent bikes too, for that matter.

All the new side missions were pretty cool too, garbage man, slash & dash or whatever that was called in that boat after you killed Vincenzo, (well, and I rather enjoyed killing him too actually, he was a snotnosed little prick), selling cars, bikes, street races, the sanchez track (both of em), etc.

I liked the fact that some of the hidden packages this time were actually hidden, like the one over Misty's apt. door, where you had to blow up the building across the street to get to it effectively, and we won't mention how many times I tried and failed to get the one on the girder under callahan bridge... angry.gif but it was challenging, nonetheless...

On the same page, I didn't like the idea that I found most of the packages just by looking in places where there weren't any packages in GTAIII

VC style firetruck and vigilante missions SUCK, too many nooks and crannies for burning people to run into and hide from you

The new cars were cool, but there wasn't nearly enough of them

Never got to actually talk to Phil (not to mention that Busey didn't do his voice this time, glad he's back in VCS though)

No flying to speak of, but I don't really think its necessary in Liberty, you can drive from salvatore's house to the airport in shoreside in 5 minutes, why would you need to fly?

All in all though, it was one hell of a good game for a sooped up gameboy, although I couldn't see straight for a week after I beat it... mercie_blink.gif

I'm not sure Toni would be nearly sympathetic to Vincenzo's death as CJ was to Smoke.

First, you have to remember what LCS is - it was an attempt (a well-executed one, all things considered) at bringing the 3D GTA experience to a handheld platform. It's no easy task. It's not Tetris. We can reasonably expect Vice City Stories to improve upon LCS, as the original Vice did on the revolutionary GTA3. Also - and while VCS will have the same challenges in the formation of the storyline - its development was constrained somewhat by having to be consistent with the events of GTA3 which happened three years after those of LCS, despite the fact that the latter game was made four years before GTA3 when there was no reason for Rockstar to assume they would have to later retcon the storyline for a prequel.

That said, I don't think Vincenzo's death at Toni's hands, considering that Toni resented Vincenzo from the start and apparently didn't know him until the events of LCS unfolded, can be expected to be portrayed like CJ having to kill his longtime (yet treasonous) friends Big Smoke and Ryder. Besides, CJ was an exercise in trying to bring a more human element into a GTA protagonist, which was something absent from GTA3 or the 2D GTA games, and to an extent Vice with Tommy Vercetti (who also didn't have to kill any longtime friends - Lance Vance was someone he only met through the course of Vice's events, much like Toni and Vincenzo).

Also, the business of a Mafiosi doesn't much lend itself to remorseful feelings. Think of Casino and the scene where the Santoro brothers were beaten with baseball bats and buried in the cornfield. It was cold, it was without regret - it was business. That's the way the mob is.

That said, as a gamer playing LCS, I couldn't help but feel bad about killing my second-favorite Vice character (to Tommy himself) - Avery Carrington. But that too would have no bearing on Toni the character, who had no ties or dealings with Avery previously.

I never really meant that the killing of Vincenzo should evoke the same emotions as Smoke's death etc. There was no full cutscene after his death that shows how Toni feels about him: his hatred towards Vincenzo.

I felt kind of apathetic when Toni killed him. Also, after the massacre of the chainsaw-wielding maniacs, Vincenzo's entry to the scene was poorly done. Again, just a half-animated cutscene. I couldn't really understand/see much of Toni and Vincenzo's hatred towards eachother in that mission. Just imagine a fully animated cutscene with Vincenzo blabbering on about how he owns Toni, then Toni making an awesome retort ( cool.gif ), before you kill him. I'd imagine it'd feel much more of an accomplishment to kill him that way. I just wasn't satisfied...

Also, take JD's death, for instance. Half-animated... To bring this scene alive, a simple thing R* had to do was to use the camera more inventively, (and again, make it fully animated)...

Actually, let me restate my opinion. I thought LCS's story was infact a good one. I admit there were surprises and climaxes. But the presentation was bad...

Toni resents being made to work under Vincenzo from the first cutscene. And I think that resentment gets driven home when Vincenzo tries to set Toni up.

The cutscenes could've been animated better, but they do ok for the first handheld 3D GTA ever. Like I said, I think we can expect improvement with VCS.

Yea i agree. I mean it's pretty good for a PSP GTA colgate.gif , but in the future, I expect better presentation sly.gif .

I just hope that VCS will be on par with the console versions inlove.gif

They were half-animated due to the fact that fully-animated motion-capture ones took up more disk space.

I liked:

- The King outfit

- The Dirt-bike missions

- The game in general

- Salvatore's character development and the growing relationship between Sal and Toni.

- The final mission, how the thunder lit up the city skyline in the background while you were shooting those boats, and the fact it was such an action movie cliche, having a showdown somewhere like a lighthouse while it's raining.

I hated:

- The fact that Toni blows up an entire neighbourhood, killing hundreds of innocent people, on the same scale that an international terrorist would. I mean, the destruction of Fort Staunton would have had a greater impact than the September 11 attacks in terms of destruction. And the fact that Toni seems to have no remorse whatsoever afterwards. It was just so out of character for Toni. It felt like they just shoved that mission in there without consideration for Toni's character, simply for some cool massive explosions and destruction. That bugged the hell out of me. Plus, that area in GTA3 was just a massive boring sandpit.

- Donald Love's drastic change of personality from this game where he's a neurotic and excitable psychopathic cannibalistic amateur businessman, to GTA3 where he's a calm, cool-headed logical millionaire. I can see something like that occuring in maybe 6 or 7 years, but not in 3. I guess he must have achieved spiritual enlightenment or inner peace, like he's trying to do in the cutscene for his last mission.

- How slow the camera moves when you're trying to get it centered behind Toni. It crawled along leisurely when you tapped the L button, which was horrible in a shootout.

Oh yeah, how do i put spoiler tags?

EDIT: Cheers Mainland Marauder

I love Toni's chicken suit you get from two rounds of Slash TV. (That minigame is badass too, incidentally.) If I ever wanted to cause mass mayhem while wearing a chicken suit, then LCS is the game I've waited for colgate.gif

I agree with you 100% here. It was really really weird how glossed over it is by not only all the characters in the game but also the devs. How the hell would Toni Cipriani be able to stay in Liberty without the Feds tracking him down. Also, Donald Love was really weird and totally not Donald Love if you ask me.

I applaud the devs for trying something new but its way too weird, Toni killed thousands of italian americans his own people just so soemone like Donald Love could prosper? The whole thing is out of whack, and just lends to LCS' weird "non-reality" vibe. The whole game feels floaty and dreamy and odd, like its not really happening. It's still a good game, I quite liked returning to old Liberty, but its also the weirdest GTA game yet.

EDIT: I just realized I replied to a post thats literally six years old lol.

Likes-

- The dark atmosphere, without it becoming really depressing like GTA 3

- The deranged characters. Donald Love, O'Toole, Casa etc.

- That you can go through Saint Mark's without being blown up

- The Crazy 69' mission

- The King Outfit

- Challenging missions. This game was the hardest since GTA3

- Finally passing the Portland Chainsaw Massacre after about 30 tries, realising I could target my opoonents. lol

- The Safehouse Interiors. Didn't get that in GTA3

- Toni. The man is a psycho.

Dislikes-

- No interesting side missions

- Sal only gives you 500k at the end

- Toni's Ma. Bitch

- About 15 of the portland missions. so boring and easy.

- The mission where you have to photograph Giovanni Casa. I failed that so many times.

- There isn't much to do after completion.

- The mission where you kill the forellis with the sindacco car. It's fun when you suceed, but sometimes is very infuriating.

- Donald Love. The guy is hilarious yet blames Toni for his own failure.

- Flashback FM. Nowhere near the GTA3 equivalent.

Well, what I liked about it was, when I first saw my older cousin playing it, I literally fell in love with the game! (Or his PSP, I'm not sure. confused.gif) I remember when I first played it, it was hard for me to adjust. I only knew how to reverse! But, then again, I was only on it for like 2 minutes. The missions aren't the best, and this game probably isn't one of the best GTAs out there, but damn it's good to play every once in a while. Return back to classic GTA, driving, killing, stunts, it's like an arcade game that you can just play over and over if you're bored. Good stuff! icon14.gif

After GTA SA, LCS had a lot to live up to, but not letting Toni swim, crouch, recruit Leone gang menbers, mod cars, eat food, take over terratory, customise clothing, have tatoos, fly the dodo, use a sachet charge, own assets, buy safe houses, gamble, escape the urban enviroment...

It was one of tjhe most dissapointing games in GTA history! sad.gif

Love: The map

Story

Music

Fun Factor

Explains alot of things about GTA 3 story, how the holes in fort staunton was made...

The chicken suit

After playing the carsales men missions for ahile theres a SA reference, the world starts to snow...

Hate: Rockstar yet again teases us about the closed tunnels

It never came to PC

It used the crap vice city engine, which made it have no swimming, no crouching.

After just playing GTA SA, its kinda hard to play without swimming, planes, helicopters...

Also:

The fact that Toni blows up an entire neighbourhood, killing hundreds of innocent people, on the same scale that an international terrorist would. I mean, the destruction of Fort Staunton would have had a greater impact than the September 11 attacks in terms of destruction. And the fact that Toni seems to have no remorse whatsoever afterwards. Try again. That little shanty slumville had probably very little people in it. 9/11 killed about 3000 people, crippled the economy, destroyed a loved landmark, ruined lots of buildings, and costed billions to clean up, and billions to build this twisted up metal garbage:

Yes, im a twin towers alliance member... We want the twins back. Rebuilding the twins, shows that we are powerful. Building that ugly blue TROPHY, makes this a trophy for el queta. I hate it, and agree with oprah and donald trump, it looks like twisted up garbage, and if new twins got built, they could of engraved the damn names into the building walls.

And, this is what the new new world trade center should be:

I like how GTA LCS fills in the blanks on what happened before GTA III and what events led to the events of GTA III happenning. However, I don't like the way GTA LCS doesn't include helicopters and doesn't include the ability to swim.
