Also, the flat roadsigns and other ads and bridges would have to be remodelled.. i'd do this myself, but still haven't got around to learn 3dsmax :I

 

also, any ideas, what can be done about the Curbs? they are totally flat with the roads..

Im pretty sure that the curbs could be easily extruded in max wink.gif

 

About the bridges, i think it only needs some adjusts to make it fit.

Gta 1 without the jumpable bridges isnt gta biggrin.gif

 

I can fix those things, if nobody else is going to turn.gif

I'm interested. Am glad to see that others are! Means that more will be done..

Have both Sketchup Pro 5 and Max 6, and well, no knowledge of em, or of getting things in game either.

Easiest way to do kerbs is probably to push the roads down a little. That way the pavements will stay aligned with the bottoms of buildings. I think this is how illspirit did the roads for Myriad Islands. The road surface should be a different COL type to the pavements anyway, so the kerbs could be built while the COL faces are being sorted out?

The curbs could be extruded (I think thats what you mean?)..

but they would need to be cut first because theres no edges along the curbline, thats really the problem with making the curbs.

 

but it can be done that way.

Any chance on getting these files in a compatible format with older versions of Max (i.e 6)? The .ase importer never made it as a supported Autodesk plug-in, meaning it only works with a select few versions of Max, and Max 6 cannot open Max 8 files. Any chance of getting the files in .fbx format?

i'll give it a try, need to reinstall max 8.

I could split those citys into little parts (and export them as 3ds) if this helps bringing them ingame turn.gif

It would be great if some could convert the map from max format to 3ds so we can start working on it smile.gif . Oh and weapons are welcome, your gta1 machine gun looks awsome.

I'm checking the BIL map out now, Max is slow as hell, but I think I can divide the objects up in pieces of 2000<. It needs a lot of retexturing though, and DFFs have to be created to form objects. Now every object consists of layers. I'll try to do some work on it.

 

EDIT: It's too hard with Max being so slow. And there are like 34 objects to divide into pieces, each with about 10000/20000 polies. And then there's the buildings that are made from several layers, which will have to be united. whatsthat.gif Too much work.

The gta1 cities seem quite high-polygonal tounge.gif to quote Mike Daily, which worked in gta1 graphics engine which went something like this: "it would be probably possible to render whole gta1 maps in real time in current hardware" yeah right, i doubt even 8800 GTX would be able to do that tounge.gif

Dude, why are you using so many polys for the citys? I could easily get the whole thing down to around 3000, but it may need some texture correction.

He didn't make the city! he converted it! It is directly out of the original gta's.

wow kewl! this looks great including the weapons and the new player model and maybe the topdownview. maybe someone cannn put it al together? then we can replace the horeshoes (as exaple) with gta2 logos and replace al the picup wav. files with the gta2 ones. and u cann make a safe point in a church (no donation no selvation!:D). and oh: thers a car gun and mine mod. so u cann shoot out of the front of your car, just like gta2 maybe u cann import that too.

Now we can have a FULLY GTA CLASSIC MOD! That's awesome... I love to play on residential district, but it's annoying to exit it to go to another level. But now, we can play all at once! If someone can make it more GTASA style and make ALL 6 LEVELS TOGETHER, it could be a great mod... BTW, very nice stuff Delfi!

Bump all you want, but unless somebody is going to actually convert the maps from 3dsmax into game models, it's not going anywhere.

 

And that somebody is not going to be me, i have no idea about 3dsmax, i just made the converter to get them to 3dsmax.

I just exported all the little parts in the max data as dff and imported them into max 6. Hope this will help a little. It's just LC at the moment but I'll make the rest later ;o
