Canoxa
Hasn't been one of this topics already made? Good job nonetheless. I love to see Vegas footages and it seems so equal to San Andreas.

The Raven
Nice job anyway I knew the cities look like to those in real life, but not so much now i see they look like much more I don't know if topic like this exists, i haven't seen it. But i congratulate you for it. And i thank you, because i'm not from U.S. and i've never seen these places before (well i've seen them in the game, but not in real life) and they all are very beautiful Edited August 8, 2006 by The_Raven
FelipeVinhao
Very good job finding this pictures even in the same angle. You can notice that the building are perfectly made replicas of the originals. The only ones that don't match so much with the originals are the Santa Monica Beach Pier (GTA's looks bigger) and the Hollywood Sign (the original hill is much higher). LT.Diablo
Thanks. For some reason, I can't search. Could admins check it out? I think searching has been disabled to help ease the strain on the server,im guessing it will be re-enabled once the 'major forum re-launch' has taken place. On-topic: Nice work,it wold help if someone that has been/lives in those places could fill in the descriptions. Other than that, nice work
doogy300
Nice one. It's always interesting to compare game objects to real-world situations. I'm also not from the U.S. (about 40% of this forum are probably the only US citizens), but I can tell you some about a few of these. Santa Monica Beach: A quarter-mile long pier that stretches across the beach into the sea. Perhaps one of the few piers in the world that can support such a huge monolith like a ferris wheel (the only other one I know of is the one in Blackpool, England. Central Pier there holds a ferris wheel called Wagon Wheel, arcades, shops, and a few other things.) Hollywood Sign: We all know of the famous nine-letter word that stretches across the hills overlooking Los Angeles. The radio tower nearby is a TV/Radio Transmitter. I don't know anyone who doesn't want to get a glimpse (and a snapshot) of the famous hill. Golden Gate Bridge: Over a mile long, the bridge is made of very durable steel alloy. The building that is Jizzy's Crack Palace is also in the shot (although I don't know what it really is. A factory, maybe.) Caeser's Palace: Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Very popular, and luxurious. I recommend going there if you ever find yourself in the Las Vegas area. Excalibur: Hotel and Casino, with a medieval theme. I don't know much about this, except that you don't wanna go there if you have a morbid fear of knights. Hoover Dam: The biggest (as in deepest) dam in the world. It really is quite spectacular, especially if you're driving on it at night. There are power lines that have been built in angle to the cliff next to the dam (not shown in the real picture, but you can see them in the GTA Sherman Dam pic). I'll keep checking the web for more info on the other buildings.
GTA3Freak-2001
Yeah its been done before but that was ages ago like when San Andreas first came out so its good to have a refresher with nice clear PC screenshots too. Some more examples for you to include: Los Santos/Los Angeles Watts Towers Los Angeles Convention Center Hollywood Walk Of Fame Grauman's Chinese Theater San Fierro/San Francisco Forth Road Bridge - Bay Bridge The Kincaid Rail Bridge - Forth Bridge (Ok..... its based on a sottish Bridge but thought I'd mention it) Windy Windy Windy Windy Windy Street - Lombard Street San Fierro City Hall - San Francisco City Hall Hashbury - Haight-Ashbury District Queens - Castro District aka Eureka Valley Embarcadero Clock Tower Waterfront area Oakland Las Venturas/Las Vegas Pioneer Club
pdescobar
I've always thought these comparisons were interesting to look at. The last major attempt at GTAF was a topic by Macsandnines. The first post of that topic as well as some of the reply submissions include other similarities such as Circus Circus vs The Clown's Pocket. Some external websites with similar comparisons: http://www.gta-sanandreas.com/forums/lofiv....php/t6395.html (from another forum; quite old but still relevant) http://www.gtagaming.com/sanandreas/compare (GTA Gaming; has most of the more well-known comparisons) I used to have another link in my collection from a netherlands website but that no longer seems to work. Cheevy
Los Santos is laid out district-wise very similarly to LA. Here are some of the districts I know of: Ganton = Compton East Beach = Long Beach East Los Santos = East LA Jefferson = Watts Idlewood = Inglewood Ocean Docks = San Pedro Marina = Marina del Rey Mulholland = Mulholland Drive Playa del Seville = Playa del Rey Santa Maria = Santa Monica Verona Beach = Venice Beach (there is a real outdoor beach gym at Venice Beach) Richman = Bel Air Rodeo = Beverly Hills (Rodeo Drive) Vinewood = Hollywood The LA Aqueduct as seen in "Terminator 2" & "Chinatown" (the movie) runs thru southeast Los Santos near where CJ's mom's house is. This isn't really a place but the "Mercury" posters with the wave are a parody of Orange County surf gear company called Quicksilver. I think Mt. Chiliad is supposed to be Mt. Diablo near San Francisco. Edited August 25, 2006 by Cheevy
Cheevy
These are in Los Santos ... LA City Hall Los Angeles Airport (LAX) Theme Building Hollywood Walk of Fame Randy's Doughnuts Community Resource Against Street Hoodlums, or C.R.A.S.H., (officers Tenpenny & Pulaski) was a real anti-gang unit of LA Police Department from the 1970s to around 2000. BrainToad
Jizzy's Club is Fort Point, which is a for underneath the Golden Gate A small little reference I noticed one day that I need to get a screenshot of is "Blob Music" You can see the sign near the donut shop where you meant Tenpenny, and the place is around the corner. This is a reference to the record store Amoeba Music which is in Hollywood. Though the buildings are a lot different.
--Cole--
I've been to LA, and I've noticed that Los Santos is horrendusly off-scale, (it takes hours to get to downtown from long beach, not minuets.) and I unfourtunatley found true crime streets of LA to be more realistic in scale, except TCLA is all bright and clean which is bullsh*t because most of LA is a dump (except for the hills). SA really captured the feel of LA- grimy and dirty and smoggy.
FelipeVinhao
I've been to LA, and I've noticed that Los Santos is horrendusly off-scale, (it takes hours to get to downtown from long beach, not minuets.) Remember that time is also "off scale", a day in game is equal to 24 minutes in real life, so you "actually" take hours to get to downtown from Long Beach. damian001
Another misalignment in Los Santos is the Vinewood/Hollywood sign and the Observatory near the LS Airport. In RL, theres a small mountain range that seperates the city of Los Angeles and Glendale. That mountain range is called Griffith park and contains the Observatory and the Hollywood sign both facing downtown LA. So in the game, they sorta fudged up by putting the Observatory near the airport instead of the Vinewood area.
FelipeVinhao
And also about Vinewood hill, it's too low comparing to Hollywood hill. So, different from Hollywood, the buildings hide the letters. What kinda landmark can't be seeing by tourists cuza the buildings in fronta it?
