~Giggle~
My HP pavillion ze5600 series laptop has lately begun to take much longer to shut down. Say I click restart and then go away for a drink or whatever and I come back 5 minutes later and it still says "Windows is still shutting down". It's not a huge problem but it does annoy me. So any ideas on why it has begun to take a while to shut down?
Crokey
My laptop occastionally does the same thing and I can't seem to find out exactly why it does it either, short of slapping it. First off though have you installed a lot of programs recently especially background programs like those you'll find in your system tray next to your clock, as these can slow down the shutdown process as it has to close each one. Then do the following Defrag your hard drive Spyware check (Lavasoft Ad-Adware for example) Make sure Windows is up to date Make sure Virus definitions etc are up to date Then see if that works, and also you could maybe try shutting down and starting up your computer a few time in a row, I've done that before because it seems that Windows likes to go though its own checklist so it knows how to shut down quicker for the next time.... its worth a bash. GC Lately I have been uninstalling programs so I don't think there is a problem there. As far as the system tray goes it is always pretty tidy running AVG, ZoneAlarm and Rainlendar. And I defrag on a regular basis as well. The only thing you have mentioned there that I don't do often is windows update, so I shall go check now for any new releases. Crokey
Try that then run the usuals, you could also try this little tool here called bootvis it helps with boot up times, as it puts the booting up process into a better order so it should help the shut down proceedure as well (to put it crudely) I've used it before and helped out a little bit, its fairly self explanitory when you look at it, it isn't Roquet-Seeance anyway.
