FatSkinnyGuy
Does anyone know why Mafia, the Getaway, Driv3r, and True Crime ABSOLUTELY SUCK? I won't lie, Godfather was a great game, the first GTA-wannabe that did GTA proud. And the upcoming Saints Row looks promising. Anyway, is God punishing the blatant plagiarizers? Or do their recipes for design spend too much time ripping off GTA elements and not enough time on real original production or gameplay value? It puzzles my mind as to why only ONE GTA-wannabe has been successful. *Look above, the one "success" was the Godfather, and it still wasn't 1/10 as good as GTA*

It puzzles my mind as to why only ONE GTA-wannabe has been successful. *Look above, the one "success" was the Godfather, and it still wasn't 1/10 as good as GTA* The Getaway is totally mediocre. Mafia was above average, it was pretty good actually, but not as accessible, and a bit dated even back in '02. True Crime LA was also an above average game. I actually like it a lot, and used to play it constantly back in '04. Plenty of hilarious ped dialogue, especially their reactions to any searches you do on them. It's also incredibly funny attacking vehicles. It's a solid game, though it still doesn't really match up with GTA. True Crime: NY, however, is horrible. The story is ok, the gameplay is also solid, and the atmosphere and map are pretty good. In fact, this would have been a tremendous game, if it weren't for the horrible bugs and glitches that totally ruin everything. The horrible technical issues in this game make it almost unplayable. From corrupted save files, to missions that are almost impossible to complete. Activision f*cked up big time with this one. I'm sure there is a great game buried underneath all these god damn bugs, which is a real shame. This game really felt like an episode of Law & Order, and the visuals were amazing. I really wanted to enjoy this game, but the technical problems screwed it up. Driv3r, arguably the best GTA clone. It is a solid game, incredible visuals, amazing soundtrack, great 80's atmosphere(if you can live with all the anachronisms), solid vehicle driving. Marred by some horrible missions, weak on-foot combat, and sometimes annoying difficulty. I would say the games here which are considered crap would be The Getaway and True Crime: NY. Mafia, LA, and Driv3r can't match GTA, but they are pretty damn good games in their own right.
GTA3Rockstar
Wait, just wait for Saint's Row and you will know why there hasn't been a good upto par game with GTA... Plus, saying they plagerized GTA, which they didn't. They took the same concept and just made it into their own, not plagerism(Taking word out of a book and putting it into your own sentence, not. Taking out a sentence and not giving credit, is.).

Cran.
Mafia and Driver (Whole series, yes even driv3r) were great games, of course Driv3r and PL had shortfalls, but they were still entertaining none the less. You thought Mafia sucked? It's the most authentic mafia game i've ever played, and I love it. It feels like a movie with the cutscenes, even more than The Godfather does. As for True Crime, that was terrible. Charaters were very annoying, the whole game wasn't even half-believable, the Driving, shooting and fighting felt disjointed at best, and to top it off, you couldn't tell where the hell you where all the time. The areas were lacking detail so much that everything looked the same, and the fact that the map was so big didn't help that one bit. A pathetic excuse for a game, I don't know how it even got approved by the publisher... Saints Row looks promising, i'm going to play it on Xbox Live at my mates place when I get a chance. Venom
Clearly, you're transfixed with the idea that GTA is the highest idol, and perhaps other developers didn't spend as long on their games, working them, as that for the GTA series.

EmSixTeen
I wouldn't call the Driver series a GTA copycat to be honest but whatever. It's grown to be a bit of one, but it did do 3D open-ended gameplay (well, limited really) before GTA ever went 3D.

Its spelt Plagiarism, for heads up since you use it alot, lol Considering you spelled it "plagerism" in your last post, I don't think you should be coaching him on how the word is spelled. -- Saints Row looks promising, but it's limited to one console. Even if it's IS good, it won't be successful because the people who will be playing these GTA clones, mostly GTA fans, aren't exactly concentrated to the Xbox 360. Even if it's released for the PS3 it won't be helped much, because it will be at a later release than on the 360, and anybody truly intent on getting it will have bought a 360 instead of a PS3. 2 Days to Vegas hasn't shown anything to warrant it being a very anticipated title. The office of the company that was producing it shut down, and was moved to a completely different office, more than likely with a different staff. Even if it does come out, it will feel incomplete or won't stand up to what it was originally supposed to be. More than likely it won't even come out. CHEMICALWARFARE
Mafia and Mercenaries are two of my favourite games, in fact maybe my two favourite games after GTA. Sure, on PS2 and XBOX Mafia sucks but on pc it's still a game that sets standards. The game has a great all round plot and brilliant missions, much harder than anything in GTA. It also has realistic driving, police and fire fights. I can't believe you're saying it sucks. And Mercenaries is just unbelievable, you'd have to play some of the game to understand, I can't begin to go into details. BTW, in my opinion The Godfather was terrible and Saints Row looks pretty bad. You can't just go around stating your opinion as fact. FatSkinnyGuy
Mafia and Mercenaries are two of my favourite games, I won't lie, Mafia was actually really good, just not totally GTA, I like my open-ended games to mimick GTA. Mercenaries: AWESOME!!! OH DEAR GOD!!! DEAR GOD!!! MY GOD!!!! WHY IS THERE SUCH A GREAT GAME!!!' My a$$ hurts from sitting 18 straight hours playing that sh*t!! AWESOME GAME!! Two suggestions: LONGER GAME! Xbox Live would be cool too! And more options for what you do with your money!
E.A.B.
Next Question: Does anyone know why every game is considered a GTA rip off?
Platinum.
None of those are GTA rip offs, thats like saying Pro Evo Soccer is a rip off of FIFA. They are just the same genres, but they take a different approach on playing the game. Driver is all about driving obviously (excluding the horrible DRIV3R), Mafia was a game about the Mafia. GTA cannot claim rights to having the Mafia in games. Godfather was about the Godfather, not anything to do with GTA. GTA stole bits from The Godfather films in the first place, so thats probably why the two games are pretty similar. Am I the only person that enjoyed The Getaway? The storyline was good, the gameplay was alright, the driving physics were ok, but the best bit was driving about London. It's so cool to drive around and know exactly where you are and not have to look at an in-game map to find out where places are. For example, driving down a road and knowing that there's a McDonalds across the road and then going and finding it makes it all seem pretty cool. I'm not British, but even I loved the London location even if I wasn't familiar with the city. That's the only reason the Getaway rocked! The rest was pretty whack! MAN! I hope GTA copies the Getaway with GTA elements, that city was awesome!
