*MURDOC*
Hey everybody. Theres a lot of acts out there doing covers, and some of them are great, sometimes better than the originals, and of course sometimes they ruin it horridly. What are some of your favorite songs not done by the original artists? What are some of your least favorite cover-songs, that make you want to punch the band in the face for even thinking they could cover it?
gutarjunky
Trivium with the cover of "master of puppets" it's one of those that are way better than the origal But then thares korn doing "one" thay short it down to like three min. and thay don't even do any solos except the two in the intro That was the day i stoped lisning to Korn
Scarface187
I think Iced Earth's covers are pretty good. Check out Tribute to the Gods. The AC/DC covers they do are awesome and their cover of Burning for You by Blue Oyster Cult was good too, not to mention the Maiden covers they've done. Some sh*tty covers I've heard are Mariah Carey covering Bringin' On the Heartbreak by Def Leppard, My Chemical Romance covering Astro Zombies by The Misfits and Tom Jones covering Purple Rain by Prince. I mean nothing against Tom Jones, and he might of had David Gilmour on guitar with him but he just can't do all the "Woohoohoo!"'s like Prince does. Oh and Sentenced's cover of The Trooper was pretty sh*tty as well. Edited August 5, 2006 by Scarface187
Bigs
What about when Celine Dion (?) did Back in Black? Some of my favourites: Clash - "Police and Thieves" Clash - "Pressure Drop" Joe Strummer - "Redemption Song" Joe Strummer - "Silver and Gold (Before I Grow Too Old)" Johnny Cash - "Hurt" Lots of others, can't recall them at the moment though. Bigs
That was You Shook Me All Night Long. Man did that blow. Ah, yeah that's right. I've only seen it like once, but I seem to remember some pelvic-thrustish movements, I remember I was pretty scared.
-shaDow
Johnny Cash - "Hurt" + Bedhead - Disorder Devo - (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction The Raincoats - Lola The Slits - I Heard It Through The Grapevine Ted Leo - Since U Been Gone (ironic cover) Least favorite cover song is probably the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' cover of Mr. You're on Fire Mr. by the Liars, I like them and all but it sounded like complete sh*t. Sun Kil Moon's Modest Mouse cover album wasn't worth the effort either.
Alternative Child
The only cover I really like is Johnny Cash's - Hurt. Oh and I heard Megadeth or someone did a cover of "Anarchy in the UK". I should check into that. Yeah, that sucked. *MURDOC*
I like the Talking Heads cover of Al Greens "Take me to the river" They really made it thier own. I was at Ozzfest yesterday and Disturbed covered "Land of confusion" by Genesis, i like that song but im not really all that into Disturbed, but they did that song well. No Escape?
I like Reel Big Fish's cover of Take on Me. It kicks various quantities of ass. And of course the Cash favorite, Hurt. Some bad ones...there were a few songs on Easy Star All-Stars' Dark Side of the Moon that I really didn't like..and that's all that comes to mind. *MURDOC*
I like Reel Big Fish's cover of Take on Me. Thats good stuff, they made that song rock out loud! I hate hate hate when "new punk" (crap) bands try to remake real punk songs. It makes me want to kick them in the mouth repeatedly.

just another thug
My favorite cover ever is Nirvana's cover of "The Man Who Sold The World." I saw the Flaming Lips cover "War Pigs" at their recent concert. That was pretty cool.

Groovy
Few covers I like Nuclear Assault - Good Times, Bad Times Dark Angel - Immigrant Song Xentrix - Ghostbusters Megadeth - Anarchy In The UK Six Feet Under has made the worst cover songs ever. Smoke On The Water (Deep Purple Cover) T.N.T. (AC/DC Cover) Holocaust (Savatage Cover) Piranha (Exodus Cover) They also covered the entire Back In Black album. That really sucked, but the original sucked, so it was bound to suck from the start.

Andyzoot
All the manufactured crap who can't write their own songs so f*ck up the great songs. Including Imagine (John Lennon) being cocked up by someone new plus G8 (From Pop Idol I think) going ahead and doing Abbey Road which did indeed suck. However the big one I remember was All Saints doing a cover of Red Hot Chilli Pepper's 'Under the Bridge'....my God that sucked!
No Escape?
Cap'n Jazz's version is better. Out of interest, I looked up their version, and quite frankly, it was awful, in my opinion. I've never been one for that distinct type of vocals. The intstrumentals were decent for the most part, but I'll stick with RBF's version. To each his own. I also looked up Celine Dion's cover of You Shook Me All Night Long, and dear God. Someone kill this woman. It's like she butchered the song with an ice pick, then proceded to make violent love to its bloody corpse.
8ballsoffire
fall out boy should have been told not to cover love will tear us apart. i'm not a big joy didvision fan by any means but the original version was perfect, nothing needed to be changed and it should have been left as it was. if they were real music fans they would have known this. i heard flaming lips cover of bohemian rhapsody on mtv2 a couple of months back. this was around the time when NME were bumming them relentlessly and saying that it was one of the greatest covers of all time. it was sh*t. as for good ones the only cover i can think of right now that i like is hounds of love by the futureheads (originally by kate bush). SWEETSAPRIK
I actually like the version of Rapper's Delight done by Redman, Eric Sermon, Method Man. Lol. "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" - I like Leadbelly's version better than Nirvana's. "Goodnight Irene" Also like Leadbelly's version best. "Midnight Special" Again, Leadbelly's version is my favorite. They usually attribute Leadbelly with "popularizing" them, since I don't think anyone knows who really "wrote" them originally. I guess since the original creator's are unknown they could all be considered covers. PяopagaиdaIиc.
