I'm working on modelling the Kabaa in mecca for SA.. but I can't seem to figure out how to make domes.. like circles that curve..like cups.. I don't know if I'm makin sense.. the only circles I can make in Sketchup are flat.. I want to make the flat circles in to domes..hehe..like a half egg.. here's how much I've been able to do: http://home.smartcall.no/fur019/Mecca.JPG but yeah.. anybody knows a trick or two in Sketchup on how to make Domes? fuckindumass
I've never used sketchup, but the other 3 modeling programs I am familiar with all have 2 easy methods for domes. One way is to create a multi row cylinder, and scale each row by hand to shape a dome. An even easier way would be to create a geosphere, scale it verticly to get your eggshape, then delete the bottom half. Hope that helps.
Daalyman05
You may not be able to do that in skecthup, i just downloaded it and played around with it. Seem's that it wont work on curved sides. But what i did was make a box and draw on the top edge of one side an arch, then used the push n pull to the other side, and i had a dome somewhat. Then i guess you could just scale one side or both. Well i did a bit of searching and found this at google help center, pretty easy to make a dome or bowl, with sketchup know. http://sketchup.google.com/support/bin/ans...&topic=0&type=f Edited August 3, 2006 by Daalyman05
Mnightmare
thnx guys.. I solved the problem by having a friend make a sphere in 3D max.. and then I just imported it in sketch up and used it..but do u guys think I should export this, and then import it in 3D max and work on it there instead?.. I'd have to learn how to use 3d max tho'.. is it hard to learn? anyway, this is how it looks like now: Edited August 3, 2006 by Mnightmare
