zeta1
I love this game so much I bought the game before I bought the console. I get the console on my birthday on Sep. 16, but I got the game about 4 days ago. I played it with my friend but he spoils it for me. Sniper missions are not intended to be run-and-gun, can't he learn that? Well anyway, I refuse to lend him my game or allow him to play it. Selfishness is crazy sometimes. guv
The more I play, the better it gets. Regaining invaded territory is so much more difficult and rewarding than in San Andreas. They have really done a good job on that part of the game. Also, while the police are relatively easy to escape from, this makes sense when you accidentally clip them while driving. Who needs an ever escalating police chase when you are just trying to get from A to B? GTA4 needs to address that. While it's unfortunate one cannot use one's own music, getting to know the in-game music is a real ttreat, with the tunes and DJs, etc, giving the game its own unique flavour. Shame about the "dead" airport, though. Reminds me of the equally dead one in Driv3r's Nice. Edited September 6, 2006 by guv

guv
Is it just my character or what? I might be hallucinating but my character talked before I gave him plastic surgery. Nope, he doesn't speak. Like Claude in GTAIII he is always silent. I think the idea is that he is "you", and so giving him someone elses voice would ruin that illusion. Mind you, I doubt many people will be playing with a character who looks much like them.
Dalpura
Guess you haven't played it all that much guv. He's like Claude, but he does talk. Think something like Silent Bob. At the end of the Vice Kings and the Los Carnales missions he lets loose a couple of humorous comments that'll make you chuckle. He says something at the end of the Rollerz missions too, but I had the TV going and missed what it was.
zeta1
It would be great if Volition and Rockstar Games merged, just a dream of course. Heck in that case, Luxoflux, R* games, and Volition. and of course the guys(whoever they are) who created Mafia, hmmm....Im gonna go play Mafia, no turn signals on Saints Row is sorta a turn off, but thats only realism-wise. Gat: I'm gunna skull f*ck that bitch <long silence, your character smiles> Your character: Hope you don't mind hepetitus. yeah,he speaks once at the end of each gang storyline at the end of los carnales troy: whats in the bag? guns? what?, SHOES?! luz: hey these are this seasons fashions, i can't leave them behind your guy: LIAR! those are last year's fall fashions luz: no they aren't your guy: pulls gun and points at luz or something to that effect westside rollerz julius on phone: how you feelin player? your guy: i just got run over by a f*cking truck, how do you think i am feeling julius on phone: oh quit bitching... i don't remember the exact words, but it is quite funny in each situation. as for the game, it is a good game to hold us over until GTA 4, and it does have some really good aspects, but it is no grand theft auto. the limited ammo takes away from the sandboxy endless mayhem time things. my take on the game though - i absolutley love the hostage taking, snatch, and escort missions, they were a good touch - there is waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much driving in missions. sometimes it has you go from one side of the map to the other to talk to someone, only to come back to finish the mission - the FBI is f*cking effective - there is so much "borrowed" from GTA that it almost seems familiar - no bikes, boats or aircraft. really takes away from the game. - the vehicle customization is amazing. its neat how a few parts can make 5 different vehicles out of the same basic vehicle. really makes it seem like there is much more variety. overall it would be an 8.5-9 on my scale, with gta being 9.5-10ish. if you need a reason to get a 360, this should be it. well....this and dead rising. GTA3Freak-2001
Yep SIP basically covered how I feel about this game, its the best attempt at the genre so far I feel. There are some very cringe worthy bits though that shows they tried to copy GTA. This is mostly in the humour department such as the radio banter, and humours stores such as Freckle Bitches which is soo silly. Well I better get back to playing some more before I have to take it back to the Video Store.

GTA3Freak-2001
Clothes stealing? Never heard of that one but the lag at times as ruined it such as one of the racing activities where it came to a 10FPS crawl. Not to mention the 15 or so freezes, glitches or just times where I've had to hard reboot my 360 so its got a few things that a patch needs to fix up. Dalpura
I hope by fix the lag they mean fix the various framerate issues which show up and the online lag which makes it unplayable. There's a thread about the clothing glitch here.

There's a thread about the clothing glitch here. That forum looks like a PS3 and GTA fanboys site to me, Dalpura. I've never seen such whining. You'd think they were talking about True Crime: New York, not the best GTA clone on the market.
zeta1
Oh yeah the clothes stealing glitch, I had that. Didn't bother me much, I just bought them again. edit: Wrong glitch apparently. FuLL_CLiP
This game isnt just the best gta clone ever its actually better than GTA in my opinion but rockstar has plenty of time to meet it rockstar better not mess around with the next GTA or theyre going to have a serious problem on their hands on the plus -awsome cars and customization -smaller map than GTA:SA (that was too big) so dont complain about the driving -cool graphics like car explosions -no auto lock (thank god) -character customization is the best of any game yet, i want to play as me not as friggin CJ -missions are all fun and the phone thing is a really cool addition -the whole feel just worked perfect unlike other games of the like -more people can follow you and youre not always in the driver seat negatives -no planes bikes boats or helecopters but seriously i never cared much that they werent there but the game could have benefited from them -the ending was horrible im almost mad that i played so much and end up with that -i like the police better in GTA somebody needs to tell rockstar that quantity does not equal quality
RMT
Not to bothered about planes. But a low-flight heli might have been nice (never know with DLC). Also a boat would have been good even if it was just in a mission. Pacrel Focre
zeta1
Well the creators claim on the website that they were sorta rushed and they didnt have time to make planes and mororcycles.... so....yeah.

Goodfella.
Give it a little while and we should try and organise a little GTAF play off or something, would be fun. Aye Daz, I'd happily take some new clothes. They need to get the bugs sorted for Live too, nothing more annoying than nearly winning Blinged out Ride only to have your car get stuck in the garage for the remainder of the game. Dalpura
-the ending was horrible im almost mad that i played so much and end up with that Exactly how I feel. I played up to it yesterday, real disappointment. And I'm up for a game soon Goodfella. I've kind of got the hang of getting hits with the McManus in real laggy matches now, so watch out. zeta1
Oh guys atleast wait till after the 16 of september for making a match. I bought the 360. but my stepfather does not let me play it until my birthday. Which is September 16.
Platinum.
After two days of gameplay, 70% screwing around and 30% missions, so far I've really enjoyed it. The best bit about it is the combat system, GTA4 had better feature something along those lines, or I'll be very upset. Another thing I was impressed with was the animation, loved it. The way you run around with your gun, pointing it like a gangsta and popping fewls makes me feel all cool inside. And I haven't even shopped for clothes, tatoos or done any of the customization yet. Need to get my arse back in the game actually.
FuLL_CLiP
I cant wait until they give us some downloadable content, maybe some extra stuff to buy, a car or two, or a mission that can lead me away from that ending lol. EDIT: Im sure the next gta will be almost revolutionary the only thing that really worries me is the main character because i like character customization or at least a charcter that doesnt talk like gta3. Oh and the other day when the dolphins lost i got so mad i just had to shoot somebody....so i did, arent games great Edited September 9, 2006 by FuLL_CLiP

Tim Dog
Another reason why I shouldn't get a XBox360; bad top rated games. Overall I was disappointed with this game. The other reviewers have pointed out some real improvements to San Andreas, and I suppose there is something to that, but there's something about not being able to fly a plane that just sucks. I finally found an airport, drove around for like 5 minutes before finding a plane only to learn that I can't fly it. What a huge letdown as a gaming moment, I mean I gave up on Saint's Row right there. Okay, the map function is much better, the navigation is much better, there are lots of activities, ways you can modify your character, etc. The graphics are better, but not by that much. But there are no motorcycles, bicycles, planes, helicopters, or jetpacks! The reason why Rockstar is so brilliant is that they exponentially improve each version of GTA, but these guys basically cloned San Andreas (without the rural parts) (and without the vehicles) and improved it ... sort of, in some areas only. Rockstar is going to eventually come out with something so much better than Saint's Row that everyone will completely forget that game even existed. After San Andreas, I just can't be asked to play any GTA-type game that does not have a working submarine (plus skateboards, bikes, many different kinds of motorcycles and planes, a hot-air baloon, a space shuttle, parachutes, speedboats, jetskis, roller-skates, windsurfers, canoes, and maybe a shopping cart.) It's just not worth my time and I have no idea why a game maker would think it would be. All those things WILL be in the next Rockstar game because those guys are not idiots. Rent this game but don't blow 60 bucks on it, not unless you really like the whole "activities" thing. guv
Tim Dog... You'd got as far as buying the game - and discovering the airport in it - before you learned that flying wasn't an option? Um, am I right in thinking you are being somewhat disingenuous? You've taken the time and trouble to reflect on what is wrong with the game (a lack of flying, mostly) but you couldn't be bothered to read a review before purchasing it? Any half decent review or preview would have alerted you to the fact that flying did not feature. Something about your story doesn't quite add up - especially the opening comment about "bad top rated [Xbox 360] games". What's your agenda here, exactly? It seems you've taken far more time and effort defaming the game than you took to research it prior to your purchasing it.
