The-end Posted August 28, 2006 Share Posted August 28, 2006 Well after playing the demo for around 2 hours I have to say it blows the sh*t out of GTA, the little extras hear and there realyl make the game so much better. Sure it's a copycat but it GTA III wasn't made another game would of done it. I get pretty anoyed when people say its a GTA copycat, along with any other game that has fre roaming. And they never said motorbikes would be in the game, so how can it be half-arsed? I'd agree if they said there would be and in the end there weren't. That would be cheap. KnokkTernal Posted August 29, 2006 Share Posted August 29, 2006 Saints Row has plenty of good points, just not enough to stack up to the great San Andreas. Overall, SR is a very dry, shallow game. There is almost no story whatsoever. It basically an “Oh sh*t, I’m in a gang. Uh Oh, a red guy, better shoot him” kind of game. Your character doesn’t even have a name for Christ’s Sake. On the other hand, San Andreas had a very interesting Story. The Story of Saints Row seems like a 9 year old won a contest and got his sh*tty story put into the game. “All the main hoods are at the docks, we can take em’ all out there.”… On level 3. Another thing in SR that disappointed me very much was that the gangs really didn’t have any sort of background. It was almost literally the Red Guys, Purple Guys, Yellow Guys, and Blue Guys. In San Andreas the gangs had a very strong presence. You knew who The Ballers were, and you didn’t just know them as “The Purple Guys”. Some things I hear come out of the pedestrians mouths make me want to puke. They are unfunny and bland, even stupid. “I can’t die, I just got a promotion!”, “Nice boobs.” It’s just brainless. At least you got a quick chuckle out of some of the things you heard in SA. Aggressive Pedestrians pose no threat whatsoever. You can usually kill them with about 3 Hits with your bare fists. Guns are useless when you can virtually beat the entire game with a Bat/Knife. I’ll admit I do like the ragdoll, but that’s about it. The entire f*cking game is a city. No woods, no Country, no Ocean, nothing. You’re bound to repetitive City Streets. In SA, you could go into the deep woods and find cabins and ghost cars, or go into the badlands. There is absolutely no possible exploration in SR. It gets really boring really fast. Sure, SR is superior to SA graphics wise, but that’s really about it. A GTA-like game without motorbikes and a shallow'ish story is a downgrade from the newer GTA games. If I do end up with a 360, I'll most likely add SR to my game collection, though. As the old saying goes, if you want to dethrown the king, you can't do it by merely brushing him aside. You have to blow him away. True Crime couldn't do it. Driv34r fell way short. And by the looks of thngs SR isn't the answer either, and it's next-gen ffs. Perhaps it's not fair to put all of these games on the same playing field, but that's not the point. The point is GTA brings more to the table than all of those cimbined, and that's all that really matters. I got the game yesterday after school, and stood home today so I could keep playing. There are a few things wrong, but nothing to make you not want to buy it. I also thought that the pedestrians were funny, just like in GTA. They say the same damn things. The city is huge and I spent a while just driveing around and figuring some land marks. Theres also "hidden packages" if you're Mr. 100%. Of course, the graphics are better. I felt the story was a little dry, but not written by a 9-year-old. Gunplay slaughters GTA, imo.
