mark-2007
Despite not witnessing the 80s first-hand (only through movies ya see) and also the fact that I look back at what terrible movies they were, I think it'll be early 90s or possibly late 80s. I think the boatmen shirts are more from that time. This is because when I hear someone saying "80s fashion" I either think of: a) Those crazy horrible outfits in Fitness Videos with shocking yellow, blues and pinks scattered in a jumble as if someone had just let a two-year old on the loose with crayons. or b) Michael Jackson in a werewolf costume. Vice City was great, in fact, it had the best stroyline but the city was so bland that I haven't played on it for over a year whilst I regularly play on San Andreas and sometimes on GTA3. It was just the monotonous landscape and the lack of places with tall buildings. The best thing about it was the street on Washington Beach where all the hotels were and the Airport/Military Base. I hope they "spice" some things up for VCS.

mc_chris
90's wouldnt make any sense in Vice City.[/color] f*ck yea they would , present day Miami is alot more exciting than some 80s -70s era , haven´t you seen Bad Boys movie ? 2fast 2furious ? but i would like to see Vice in either 1996-1997 era or 2006
DeAnO_GTA~MaStEr
I thought Tommy Vercetti was the guy driving the boat on the GTA: Vice City cover? Yeah I have heard so, but if you have zoomed enough into it, the guy doesnt really have the same hairstyle as Tommy (though someone might say that happened due to wind blowing) and the color of the soiree isnt dark enough. What you're forgetting is, most of the character art doesn't look like the character it's supposed to be. Still, I myself doubt it's Tommy. BlOoDStReAm101
I always wanted Vice city to be set after the 85 - 86's...I would want to see what Tommy's doing in Vice city and stuff. Probably 94% it's set before the 85 - 86's,but hey it could be after, which i hope.1987 will be great for VCS. Doubt it though. Anyways, if it's set before like around 1979-1983 that would be great as well. It's just I don't want to be a character from the old Vice city. I want to see a fresh character in Vice city. Not some biker, not some cuban fat-short man,not Lance Vance etc etc...
DuPz0r
The car on the boxart looks like the Lamborghini Countach LP400 1978: This is an obvious clue that it will be set around 1978-

SeaNorris.
You're right Freakeh, because, in San Andreas, the Sultan is based off a Subaru Impreza, and to my knowledge they did not make that type of Impreza at that time. Besides, it's boxart.
ATK
Well they pretty accurate, but not entirely. The Blista Compact which was in VC and SA was the civic which was made up to 1987. And I think it changed twice between 87' and 92' so it dosent really make sense in SA. the Sultan is based off a Subaru Impreza, and to my knowledge they did not make that type of Impreza at that time. Acctually I think they did, That was like the first year the impreza was made
SeaNorris.
The bog standard Impreza was launched November 1992. It looked like that, not like the WRX/STI version included in SA.
ATK
Well I guess your right. the first WRX was in 1992, but it was only in Japan.
DeAnO_GTA~MaStEr
Please do correct me if i'm wrong, but has the main character EVER been featured on the front cover of a gta box? The only time they even did art of a main character was with SA, they had one of carl. I was going to say that, too, but then I remembered GTA Advance and the artwork of Mike. And come to think of it, I'm pretty sure there were two pieces based on Carl. I'm going to take that comment back, after finding that Claude is actually on GTA: IIIs boxart. Here's a picture I scanned: I've taken the crosshair off so you can see him more clearly. Edited July 30, 2006 by DeAnO_GTA~MaStEr
MJ2k
It does look a bit like Claude, but you can't be certain. Whoever it is appears to be wearing wearing a trench coat or grey jacket. Claude has never been seen out of his black jacket and green cargo pants.
DeAnO_GTA~MaStEr
True, true. However, like I said before, some character art doesn't look like the character it's based on.

saintdave
No, it's on the cover within a small sniper circle. Check out the enlarged image for proof. However this is the English/European cover the American/rest of the world may have been different.

I have seen that art work, but I always thought it was going to be used for the cover, but was then scrapped for this one, which is what we have here in teh US. GTA3Freak-2001
Well that cover of GTA3 was in a different style to the rest, it was more reminscent of the orginal GTA poster which was on the back of the map that came with the game. I guess they wanted to bring that to GTA3 but only ended up using it for some areas. As to whether or not that guy is Claude is not confirmed but I agree it looks like and I remember there was talk about it being him around that time. There were actually two versions of that cover They both have the same basic image but the UK one is lacking anything else in the background. Kippers
I dislike the one linked by flore there. I know it follows the same sttyle as SA, VC, LCS and VCS but the boxes just look too square and they're lined up in rows which i dont like the look of. I on the other hand have the first at of the 2 boxes Freaky posted, with the white background. 習うより慣れろ
arntf
you know first it seemed like 90s to me and after i took a closer look at this image if they are Cortez and Gonzalez then it couldn´t be 90 s because Gonzalez would have been dead but then again we can´t be so sure who these guys on boat really are cuz the face of a guy is hidden with binocle so yeah i guess its gonna be 90s , who knows what surpries they have in store for us Mate those guys are wearing pastel pink and pastel blue shirts, if that doesn't scream 80's I dunno what would. Besides, standard size Uzis are, like, so 80's right?
