RealCharlieBrown
Vigilante Sub-Mission Glitch: It doesn’t work! San Andreas PC Version 1.1 Hi there. I am trying to use the famous “restaurant glitch” on the Vigilante mission to obtain the 150 shield and count toward my 100%, but it is not working in some cases, or just partially and not the way it is supposed to work. Hope someone can help me or I will have to pass the Vigilante missions the “right” way, which has been very hard and at some point very, very frustrating. It is just too much heat from the Police on missions 8 and above. It is so hard that it is almost ridiculous. According to what I’ve read here an in other unofficial on-line guides, if you get into a Police vehicle, hit 2 to toggle the Vigilante missions, then get out of the car or bike, get into a restaurant and wait for about 20 seconds inside the restaurant, the threat will be eliminated and you will be awarded the kill. Then you will have to get into the car or bike again to reset the counter and repeat the process until you get all 12 kills and voila! You complete the Vigilante and get 150 shield increase. The only condition seems to be to “park the car or bike on the adjacent road, as opposed to right outside the restaurant door” Well, I tried this yesterday with mixed results, and never passed level 4. In many cases it didn’t work, and in ALL the cases, I had to wait 30 seconds or more and then exit the restaurant and run toward the car to get the kill, or get in and out of the car many times until it worked, which was a complete waste of time. It never awarded me the kill while being inside the restaurant, as it is supposed to be Am I overseeing something? Does it work in any restaurant or just in a particular one? (I’m using the clucking bell close to CJ’s house in LSO) Do you think the glitch was fixed for PC version 1.1? Thanks! quartet1977
i don't think that glitch is present in PC versions. it didn't work for me when i tried it ages ago. if you want to do the vigilante missions the proper way (and early in the game), your best bet is to get hitman skills on the SMG and several thousand rounds of ammo (ammunation glitch comes in handy for this), grab a cop bike, and trigger the mission. as your wanted level rises, you can go into barbershops, clothing shops and safe houses to change your appearance and lose your wanted level. i find that getting a haircut is fastest, but any can be done within the minute you are allowed off the bike. you'll also want to keep track of where armor pick ups are located, as well as food spots for energy. good luck! for more details, check out gillies's Vehicle Missions Guide. RealCharlieBrown
Thanks quartet, With your advise I searched the forum and confirmed the glitch is not present on the PC version. Bummer! It seems I have to earn the 150 shield the hard way. Is it really necessary to get 150 shield for completing all the missions or just to get 100% completion? The way to tackle the mission according to the guide you sent me is extremely difficult. I’ve already tried it. I have a hitman level with the mini SMG and have maxed-out driving and motorbike skills and even then it is virtually impossible after level 8 with all the wanted stars, even if you know where the bribes are. Also, time to get a hair cut is almost on the edge and as soon as you park the car, getting into the barber shop is almost impossible with 4 wanted stars. It seems the easier way is with a Rhino, but then you can only get one after Las Venturas has been unlocked, which I guess is about half part of the game and even then you will have to get rid of the five stars wanted level for stealing the Rhino. I am going to try to steal the Rhino during the non-wanted glitch during “reuniting the family”, park it into a Garage in on one of the houses I’ve bought in LSO, and then use it after completing the mission. Would this work? I hope so! Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/250276-vigilante-sub-mission-glitch-it-doesn%E2%80%99t-work/#findComment-3778940 Share on other sites
pdescobar
Thanks quartet, With your advise I searched the forum and confirmed the glitch is not present on the PC version. Bummer! It seems I have to earn the 150 shield the hard way. Yeah, that glitch only applied to PS2 version 1. It was more or less fixed in the initial PC/xbox release and probably remained fixed in all subsequent versions although the xbox supposedly had a glitch of its own I never bothered trying. Is it really necessary to get 150 shield for completing all the missions or just to get 100% completion? Only for 100% completion. It is possible to do only the storyline and absolutely nothing else if you wish (45.45% completion after End of the Line) although the extra armor does make things easier. I am going to try to steal the Rhino during the non-wanted glitch during reuniting the family, park it into a Garage in on one of the houses Ive bought in LSO, and then use it after completing the mission. Would this work? I hope so! That won't work. Without cheating, the earliest you can get a Rhino is when the third island unlocks because you can't legitimately get 6 stars before then and the parked spawns aren't active. Even if you could get one, returning to LS with it would probably be impossible. You can get it during a later no wanted exploit mission, however, such as You've Had Your Chips. Also, time to get a hair cut is almost on the edge and as soon as you park the car, getting into the barber shop is almost impossible with 4 wanted stars. you should use a police motorcycle so you can shoot from behind. also, don't use the micro-SMG, use the SMG. it's more powerful. again, you'll want hitman in this (which you get separately from getting hitman in the micro-SMG) and several thousand rounds of ammo so you can just hold down the trigger and not worry about running out of bullets. doing it this way in los santos is not easy but it's far from impossible. there are lots of places to lose your wanted level. the thing you want to do is accumulate as much time on the clock as possible in the early rounds so you have time to spare for haircuts and changes of clothes. don't waste time on selecting; just take the first clothing or haircut option and get back outside on your bike. i try to lose my wanted level before it gets to four stars, because you're right, those coppers make it very difficult for you. another piece of advice: don't try the vigilante mission in the countryside if you plan to do it on a cop bike. cops don't ride motorcycles except in the city, so if you lose yours in the countryside, you're screwed. if this is too hard or too frustrating (or both), just wait until you get to the desert and can steal a rhino. you don't need the 150% armor, though it is nice to have (make sure to do the paramedic mission for 150% health). once you've unlocked that part of the map, you'll find that stealing a rhino is a piece of cake, even with a five star wanted level. but that's a story for another time. you've got a lot to play through to reach that point. have fun! @pdescobar: have a great vacation! hello2crawler
The glitch actually works on PC....partly. I went to a restaurant and waited for 10 sec, then come out..and it worked until lev 11. I did the last 2 levels then.... It seems need to be exactly 10 sec, say during ur entering the restaurant, the countdown turns to 57, u should get out when it is 48, and spend 1 sec at the door. Mixolydian
It's much more fun for me to do the Vigilante mission with the Hunter. That isn't possible until deep into the game, but it's lots of fun. Doing it on a cop bike and closely managing your wanted level in Los Santos will work though. Buying all of the safe houses is helpful, naturally. Getting more practice running from the cops with 4 stars can help too. I think that after you have some crazy cop battles involving 6-star wanted levels, you will find that dealing with 4 stars isn't as tough as it seems as first. With a cop bike, you should be able to get to the point where you can usually outrun the cops and get into safe houses and the barber shop pretty easily. Since you can shoot while riding the motorcycle, you will get to the point where you can do some damage on a drive-by, bail, outrun the cops without going very far, and return to take more shots at your victims. This is what I think you should do: Walk up to a motorcycle cop, kill him, and take his bike. Find more cops and kill them until you have 4 stars. Then practice driving around, avoiding capture and death. After you've done that a bunch of times, it should be much easier to elude the man.
