If you just started playing Vice City, do not proceed.. I'm new to these forums, and I'm quite upset of what I all read here. So for a change I'll try to follow the facts and setup my own Vice City Stories, to convice you of the changes I think the game is going to have. I'm a gigantic Vice City fan, so don't get me wrong on some points. Tommy Vercetti was sent to prison in Liberty City in 1971 for multiple counts of murder, earning him the nickname of "The Harwood Butcher" (because Sonny Forelli called in favors and pulled strings, Tommy never received the death penalty or a life sentence in prison without parole). Tommy was released 15 years later, in 1986 and was quickly sent by mob boss Sonny Forelli to the wonderous Miami-like Vice City It seems quite obvious Vice City Stories will take part in 1983, Rockstar is rid of Tommy Vercetti, since he is still in jail. Vice City Stories is absolutly not going to take place in another era, I'm convinced of that. It would ruin the whole feel. Even more as the font is still in the 80's color and style. Lance meets Vercetti face-to-face shortly after Tommy murders a small-time gangster/cook named Leo. Each agrees to help the other get revenge on whoever wrecked the cocaine deal. Lance, however, comes to resent Tommy's attitude and greater share of their money, and eventually betrays Vercetti in the last mission of the game. Lance would be killed by Tommy during this mission. So no way you are going to play with him, he dies IMO. And it doesn't matter if the story takes part in 1983. Did lance had any conections in town before he joined Vercetti? If so Lance took his own revenge ojn his brother because he was already powerfull. And i think it doesn't feel comfortable when you know your Big Gangster man will be killed anyway. True True, but still I don't think you will be playing with a dead noted characther. They did run a busnisess (note the coke traid in the intro scene) but I guess not that big.. Lance meets Vercetti face-to-face shortly after Tommy murders a small-time gangster/cook named Leo. Same story, he's dead. And you are also not going to play with Diaz and everybody else who died. At best you can get missions from them. Vercetti discovers Diaz' role and takes him out, seizing his estate in the process. It would be incredible lame, if we get the mansion once again, if there aren't any changes made. I also think the map will be the same, except some little changes made like in Liberty City stories. No way there is just going to be a new island or the golf track ''miracly'' changed into a swamp. What i do hope, and that will happen, is that R* does recreate the textures for a nicer and higher resolution City optimized for PSP. The game will certainly not have a other engine, since Liberty City Stories IS already built on the Vice City Engine. That also means there isn't going to be swimming and stuff, just changing clothes. Mainly all radio stations will remain and some might change, like in Libert City Stories. My guess is that ; Flash, Vrock, Espantoso, Fever and Wave will remain. For the story and main character, I have totally no idea. I place my bets on a already excisting character, but i would absolutly not know who that might be. A new Tommy-Like characther would also be great (like Joey Leone). The tagline Stories is Vice City Stories, mean it will tell the story of a know characther ew do not know his background and stuff from. Exactly like Toni. Let Rockstar Suprise us, I'm sure it will be a big hit. More to be added, feel free to discuss and set the perfect ultimate setting with facts, you must proof it with a fact. You cant really say Rockstar keeps the 3 year previously tradition, as they have only done it once in LCS and it's not a rule on the series. I do agree it will stay in the same era, even more as the font is still in the 80's color and style. From the story it sounded like the Vance brothers were equal in power but just had different specialties, like Lance's flying. True a lot of characters do die in VC, but if they do chose to go with a prequel to VC then anyone could be involved. The mansion will be there I'm sure but again I agree it would be silly to gain control of it during the game. The radio changes, landscape changes, characters and the majority of things really do depend on the time period. But it does make for a lot of interesting speculation. I doubt it will be any of those characters, not only because they are GTA 3/Liberty City characters but also because I think they would rather stick to someone from VC or a recent arrival, unknown in the GTA universe. Those characters do have links and ties to VC however, but you get the feeling Rockstar wants to start breaking away from using old people that we know of already. GTA3 - 2001 - 1998 LCS - 1995- 1992 San Andreas - 1989 (maybe VCS) - 1986 Vice City - 1983 (maybe VCS) It has to be 1983 or 1989.. if they continue with their three-year difference thing.. notice the free spaces left are 1995, 1989 and 1983. Yes I'm well aware of the name of this game, but if you had read what I was replying to you'd have known that I was simply stating that Tommy was arrested in 1971 for crimes/jobs he did in Liberty City and not Vice City, which rules out the game being set in that time period. He uses this club as a base for his legion of prostitutes scattered throughout Portland. He is Claude's first boss in Liberty City, and gives him mundane jobs such as driving his girls around and chasing down minor gangsters who mess with his girls.(WIKIPEDIA) before he was working with the leones he was doing work for diaz and other people on vice city,what do you think? I would love to see that in a future GTA game. Tommy would be in his late teens or early 20's and seeing Liberty City in the late 60's - early 70's would be cool. As for main character of VCS, I have no idea.. it could be anyone. I'm hoping for some new person myself. I won't be playing it until an eventual PS2 port anyway. Archaon, Lord of End Times Posted June 12, 2006 Share Posted June 12, 2006 (edited) Liberty city in 1971 would be cool and Tommy was a sweet main character but it won't be the plot for VCS since it is in vice but it could be a setting for a later GTA, it'll will probably be one of the people I mentioned above. Luigi Goterelli would also be a good main character but again his story would be in Liberty, most likley between 1998 and 2001, around the time when he was granted ownership of the club. VCS will probably star a character we met in Vice but know little about, like Toni in III and LCS. Not necessarily, we have established that either Vance brother wont be in the game if it is set after 1986. If it's before then it is possible they could feature. People assume and I think Rockstar go by the year 2001 as that’s the year the game come out, and when changes were made in the game due to the events of September 11th. I don't know what Rockstar is going to do, but they have to make their choices extremely carefull with this one, because Vice City might be one of the best games of all time. But I trust Rockstar in that, therefor I think they would exclude as many relations as possible with the previous game to keep it's pride. I also think if Tommy provides missions to the player that would be rather booring and give him a Diaz kinda attitude, he also can get very angry. It would be cooler to be the man, then to get orders from the man. That would also excludes the mansion, because I think Tommy will still be situated there. Toni wasn't the big hot shot either, but sure he was a bad gangster! And please, if Tommy returns let Ray Liotta voice cast him. It was such a pity Micheal Madsen didn't voice casted Toni. I think we have established it will still be in the 80’s but it could be 1, 2 or 3 years before or after Vie City. I don’t think we will get to be Tommy, but I do think he would make a cool boss. Many people’s favourite boss in Vice City was The Colonel (Juan Garcia) and he was at times aggressive, especially towards the French! I read a while ago that Ray Liotta enjoyed playing Tommy and didn’t rule out a future return to voicing him. Madsen didn’t voice Toni in LCS, as he was so disgusted at the whole concept of GTA, which he found out about after he had got his money I bet. I'd like to paste my comment about Cortez from another topic, in which I explain why Cortez won't be the main character: He is a retired colonel from an unspecified Central American nation. He earned his wealth with corruption and theft of his homecountry. I think Cortez's character is to portray guys like Manuel Noriega (Panama 1983 - 1989) or Anastasio Somoza Garcia (Nicaragua 1937 - 1956), Augusto Pinochet (Chile 1973 - 1990) or maybe even Ferdinand Marcos (Philippines 1965 - 1986) who actualy left with country's entire forgen currency reserve. Cortez is the man who came into power with coup d'�tat, decleared marshal law, was found guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity by international court of justis behind his back and stuff. Such dictator, as you might expect has very good international political and business contacts and maybe for some favor made for future host country during his time on power, he will never be brought to justice aslong as he keeps low profile. Such dictator ofcourse has lot of enemys too, beginning with the close-ones of those who "disappeared" during his regime and ending with hostile forgen goverments. He is kind of dictator who had millions stored in Swiss banks for the down times that may come. And when finaly overthrown, went to exile to somewhere like French Rivera or Miami (aka VC) where he could live clam life, spending his hoards. And Cortez is textbook example of such dictator. As for Cortez, I don't know if he was as much a dictator as one of that dictator's main cronies. Regarding the timespan, if it were set in 1983 it would probably have more of that 80's vibe, but I'm looking forward (no pun intended) to 1989. Rockstar has already set games in the periods before and after that timeframe, so it would be interesting to see them try to show a metamorphosis from one time frame to another.
