MindCorrupt
Having a problem with SA. Have just recently installed it after quite a while of not having it. (last copy broke...this is a brand new copy straight from the shop). Install went fine, go to launch the game and after the splash screen it goes partially black and then gives me the typical "gta_sa.exe has encountered a problem and needs to shut down..." message. -graphics drivers up to date (ATI) -reinstalled game 3 times with same result -deleted stream.ini thingo from "san andreas user files" -Tried with No-Cd crack and intro remover Im completely stumped. I remember having probs with it ages ago when I last installed it but got past it (cant remember though). Another thing, i cannot patch the game to the newer version. It stops after 10% and says: "Old file not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match". Gives same message with original and cracked exe. Any ideas? Cheers.
crazyanurag
the only thing i can suggest is to uninstall the game, and then delete all files, including registry entries, of the previous install(the one which broke)...because it seems to be a V1/V2 conflict...try this and see if it helps... Tried with No-Cd crackandGives same message with cracked exe.not a good idea You'll Never Walk Alone
GTA3Freak-2001
Another thing, i cannot patch the game to the newer version. It stops after 10% and says: "Old file not found. New copies are all V2.0 which already have the patch contents applied so that's why the patch won't work. Oh and as far as I know there aren't any cracks or no-cd patches for the 2.0 copy which is what your new copy is, I'd suggest not using that crack as its probably the 1.0 version which is what you used to have. MindCorrupt
Ah, makes a bit more sense now. Cheers for the info fellas. @crazy, I dont usually lean towards no-cd/crack sort of side to things. Just that I have had a few problems with my DVD drive in the past and seeing if i can eliminate that as the problem seemed like the smart thing to do. Just pissed i spent my last 40 bucks on this when i could of bought a carton of piss or something hehe. edit - all files related gone from registry and reinstalled. Still same problem. This is right bullsh*t. Edited June 11, 2006 by mr_ed
blackmtn
I have the same problem. I just installed SA, the second edition, for the first time last night. Tried starting the game, the logo screens and first videos work, splash screen shows up, then as it is about to disappear it kind of greys out than I get kicked back to Windows with the message that gta...exe had to shut down. Thought it might be my Transit USB (audio) so I unplugged it, still same problem. So I submitted the Windows error report and Windows said that Take2 had a fix for the submitted problem and directed me to their site to download the patch, 1.1. Of course that didn't work for me seeing as I have version 2. I then thought it might be because of my graphics card - i'm running Windows XP on my new MacBook Pro and I have the ATI x1600 and I have read in a few spots that the driver Apple supplies has some glitches; however, you seem to be having the same problem as I do. I also installed a few other games to see if they worked - NFS Most Wanted and Underground 2 - and they worked just fine. Anyways, i'm cheazed that it doesn't work and am wondering if it's a problem with just being version 2... if a person can downgrade version 2 back to 1 i'll try that later when I get home to see if that helps. Comp Specs: Windows XP SP2, all updates ATI x1600 mobile, 128mb CoreDuo, 2.0ghz 512mb 667mhz RAM
MindCorrupt
Yeah, seems to be the same problem. All other games ive had installed on this PC have worked fine. Along with my older copy of SA which i no longer have (which was patched to 1.1 and worked fine). It sucks. Any help anyone?
