SmellyJelly
Everytime I log in my computer I get this message. I was told to install framedyn.dll, and that would fix the problem. After installing it and putting the file in windows\system, I restarted my computer. When I logged back in the error was gone, but my internet wasn't working. Since then I've moved the file on my desktop. How can I fix the error and still have my internet working? About one day after that, Windows started complaining about not detecting any antivirus software. Does this have anything to do with the error above? I installed AVG Home Edition, but Windows doesn't seem to detect it. Should I just 'tell' Windows that I have an antivirus anyways?

SmellyJelly
Those were different questions, so I'm not sure if they have anything to do with eachother. Here is where the readme says to put framedyn.dll º Use WinZip to extract the file to º º your windows\system directory. º To be honost I used Winrar, would that make it not work right? Whenever I put framedyn.dll in windows\system32\wbem I got a message if I'd like to replace it for another framedyn.dll. I decided be safe and canceled, so I'm not sure if that would actually fix my problem or not. Edited June 10, 2006 by SmellyJelly
facugaich
Rename the one that's already in that directory (somthing like framedyn.backup) and the copy the new one. And WinRar shouldn't have a problem extracting Zip files. EDIT: I quote M$ CAUSE This behavior can occur if either of the following conditions is true: •The %SYSTEMROOT%\System32\Wbem\framedyn.dll file is missing or damaged. -or- •The Windows Path environment variable does not point to the %SYSTEMROOT%\System32\Wbem folder. RESOLUTION Replace the Framedyn.dll File 1.Click Start, and then click Run. 2.In the Open box, type %systemroot%\system32\dllcache, and then click OK. 3.Right-click framedyn.dll, and then click Copy on the shortcut menu that appears. <-------Sauce------> Edited June 10, 2006 by facugaich

You did ask two different questions.... 1 : Why your PC wouldnt start without the .dll ( you already have the .dll in your system32 dir, so that's ok ) 2 : Did the .dll have anything to do with AVG.... ( not related to AVG ) And another thing , why do you have a .dll in a .rar did you DL it from somewhere or did it come with software you installed...? Wolf68k
Here's a silly thought.... ntrayfw.exe is part of the nVidia Firewall, which I believe is part of mobo's with nVidia chipsets. My point being, either download the latest chipset drivers from nVidia...or...find the mobo CD and reinstall them from there.
SmellyJelly
facugaich- Whenever I tried to rename "System32\Wbem\"framedyn.dll"" to framedynbackup.dll, I couldn't paste the new framedyn in the same folder. That's because Windows must have made another one after I changed it's name, although it didn't show up until I clicked back and went into "Wbem" again. Windows XP is a sneaky one. I also tried the suggestion from the link you posted, but it didn't work either. .:Clansman:.- The second question has nothing to do with framedyn.dll, at least as far as I know. I was wondering if I should make Windows stop complaining that I have no antivirus software, even though I install AVG Home Edition, or get something else instead. Sorry for the confusion. And another thing , why do you have a .dll in a .rar did you DL it from somewhere or did it come with software you installed...? I'm sorry, but I don't really understand that question. Did you mean if framedyn.dll came with AVG, then no, it didn't. I installed AVG about one day after the ntrayfw.exe error (or now know as the missing framedyn.dll error) because Windows was complaining about not having antivirus software. Do you understand know? wolf68k- I believe reinstalling the motherboard drivers was the first thing I tried to fix the error. I found "nForce4_amd_6.70_winxp2k_english" saved in one of my folders and tried to reinstall it, several times actually. Unfortunately it didn't work, and I'm still getting the startup error. Dunno if it's going to work, I did it once to replace the UXTheme.Dll
SmellyJelly
Could that mess anything up?
facugaich
In case it does, you can erase the new one and rename all the other files back. (Remember to rename in a way to know which ones were named "framedyn.dll" and which ones "framedyn.dl_". As always, use it at your own risk-
