Runestoner
I thought Pope and Mastroeni both deserved their cards. Pope was getting rough all day long and Mastroeni's tackle looked like it hit the ankle on purpose. My dad's been playing soccer all his life, played in the Polish leagues and the under 17 national team. He called a red right at the time it happened. Just why I thought it was a red. Talking about poor officiating, France deserved that win over Korea. That was a goal no question about it. They should put a camera inside the goal and tell the ref whether it went in or not cause that was bull. Excuse Me? Red Card....for that? Just because your dad played soocer or football (making everyone happy here) doesn't mean he knows what the hell he was talking about. That is a late sliding tackle and deserved a yellow card at the most, so don't let the fact that you probally would love nithing more than the US get knocked out early get in the way of clear judgment. That was a make up call, you know it, I know it, the ref knows, hell, everyone knows it. Pope, however did deserve his red card, since he already had a yellow, so no complaints here for that. Runestoner
Well, I can't change the decision, but i think he just deserved a yellow card, not a red, but hey, I can find plenty of people to back me up.

cice
IF YOU R A SOCCER FREAK LIKE ME,YOU KNOW BRAZIL IS RELAXING FOR THE SEMIFINALS,BRAZIL EASILY CAN WIN THE WORLD CUP On paper, yes, Brazil are the best team. But don't be fooled, no team is unbeatable. In other news, Harry Kewell has been cleared to play against Croatia. He got into trouble for having an argument with the ref after the match, and could have got banned for 1 match. However, now the ref might be in trouble because he alegedly said to Kewell during the argument that he wont be able to play against Croatia. Guglielminpietro
England's defending from set pieces was VERY worrying yesterday. We won't be winning any World Cups if we defend like that. Joe Cole for goal of the tournament though! soundcloud.com/TheDamnFineCoats

gta_player5
Serbia Montenegro is currently leading 2-0 in the 21st minute. They just scored their second goal after Ivory Coast missed an great chance to score. The ball was crossed into in front of the goal but was headed clear over the bar. Ivory Coast's defense is looking very vulnerable right now. Edited June 21, 2006 by gta_player5
Guglielminpietro
Argentina and Holland should have been the best game of the tournament so far, but it was very boring. Only a few moments of good attacking play in the whole game. Neither side could be bothered trying to prove they were the better team when they'd both qualified already. soundcloud.com/TheDamnFineCoats

TripleAs
Argentina - Holland = Worst Argentina's match so far... damn it, it was incredible boring... i almost fell asleep in the middle of the game Also, Messi should been a lil bit more "connected" with the team, same for Tevez (en argento: ambos son unos morfones...y si en realidad no lo son, en éste partido se comportaron así). Afterall we finished as the best team (which word should i use in eng?) in Group C so we're going to play against Mexico this saturday. bye Vamos Argentina che!... vALKYR
Why would Argentina and Holland play hard anyway? They're both in the next round and they have a few good players with a yellow card so yeah... why? The Netherlands didn't quite want to shoot a goal or else they would have to play against Germany in the quarter finals when they both win the next round. And neither did Argentina I guess. Good football of both teams anyway... when you think they didn't really need to play on ultra performance. Why should they anyway? Bad for the next round. Sixdust
I am so upset right now, USA got f+cking cheated by the referee agian, last time they got 2 red cards for sliding in the italy game, and kept being yellow carded, and now, ghanna was able to score right infront of the ref, after he clearly fouls the usa player, everyone is waiting for the whistle, the guy runs in and scores. Total bullsh}t. Then Ghanna got a free kick into the goal area, the reason they got it? The damn shaggy ghanna guy fell over and usa was fouled, even though he never touched the ball or ghana guy. Italy won, thankfully, and I am still upset that Poland lost the cup, even though they finally managed to win by winning costa rica. Now its time to watch japan lose to brazil. Runestoner
The US played like absolute garbage in this World Cup, face it. They are lucky to get the 1 point they did. They only scored 1 goal in the 3 games they played, since the goal vs Italy was an own goal. They deserved to be eliminated, as much as it hurts me to say. Cuse510
I know I'm biased, but it really does seem like the refs hurt us badly in this tournament. That foul call on Onyewu was rediculous. I've seen much more physical 50-50 balls in the penalty area this World Cup, and most of them have been no calls. Onyweu did make some contact, but not enough for a PK. Nice acting from the Ghana player though. And although the refs were bad, our team just did not play well. That first Ghana goal was not a foul, Reyna just gave it to them. Just like basketball, we failed to play to our full potential. I can only hope we don't play so poorly in 2010. Otherwise
Crokey
Permission to Laugh my Ar*e off Permission Granted Graham Poll .... HA HA HA HA HA What an absoulte plonker, first rule of refereeing, once a player has been booked twice then that player is then shown a red card, not three times... dur. A World Cup full of firsts, Ghana through to the knockout stages, Australia through the knockout stage (nice one) and a player getting shown three yellow cards. Although my 'Dark Horse' side USA went out, but they kinda fluffed it to begin with by getting humped 3-0. But hopefully, the Aussies can beat Italy... please. cice
Well, despite the refs best efforts, Australia are through to the round of 16 for the first time. I don't think my heart has beaten so fast before. It's 7:42am here, I havn't slept and am totally running on adrenaline. I'm so pumped. Bring on Italy. Come on rune... maybe if we were in Europe. But our zone (CONCACAF I believe) is really weak. The US is almost assured of qualifying. I'd like to think of it as an accomplishment to make it to the WC, but it's hard when you look at the competition we faced.
Runestoner
The problem is that the US thinks that they are one of the world's elite, but the fact of the matter is, we still have a long way to go. I honestly don't know how to fix the problem, but bear this in mind I am just trying to scrape up something positive...but that is really impossible with that performance. I don't know single person who feels that the US was one of the elite teams of those in the World Cup, and those who pay attention to football would know that the rankings are obselete, at how the US was ranked 5. I didn't expect the US to pass through, their groupd was very difficult. At first their groupd was called "the group of death." Also it doesn't help the US when in essence the opposition had 12 men on the team. Some of the officiating of these US games was horrible. There really is no way to findf a positive except for them nearly defeating Italy, by time the next World Cup comes, I think the US team will improve. Torcidas
Croatia is f*cking out. Let me repeat. Out. An amazing game we played with the Aussies, but that just didn't cut it. That referee was a prick, I'm sure most of you that watched the game could agree. At the final minutes, he was handing out cards as if he was in a poker tournament. Bullsh*t effort by Croatia. But, what the hell. It happens.

Mafia Righthand_Man
Oh well. This just gives Americans a reason to ignore soccer (Sorry, speaking to fellow Americans for a second) for another 4 years. I think I'm pulling for Ghana now. They've been playing real well. GTA3Rockstar
Did the only two US goals come from kicks of the opposite team? I believe so and that is pretty sad, I never watched Soccer until this year... Guess it was the wrong time to, lol
