gohan2091
I posted about a year ago about crashing I had with the game, it use to freeze and I couldnt do anything. The problem then went away by itself and the game didnt crash very often. I now have a whole new PC and can't play the game any longer than 5 minutes without it freezing. I am driving and then the game freezes, I can hear the radio playing but I cant do anything. Sometimes the game even shows me a Microsoft error box and says gta.exe has caused an error and must be closed. This is what event viewer says... Faulting application gta_sa.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module gta_sa.exe, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x002125b9. I think the freezing is caused by the sound but I am not sure. I have installed GTA SA on my dad PC (he has AC87 onboard sound) and his game crashes too, although no where near as often as mine. We are both using the 1.01 patch which is suppose to fix a sound overload causing the game to crash. Here are my specs... AMD Athlon 64bit 3500 Manchester 512MB PC3200 DDR400 eVGA GeForce 7900GT CO 256MB ASUS A8N-E nForce 4 Ultra Western Digital SATA-II 320GB Western Digital ATA100 160GB Sound Blaster Live 5.1 Windows XP Pro with Service pack 2 I have visited Creatives website and 2 drivers are listed for my sound card. One is a update, the other is a hotfix. I can install the update (which was made 2002) but the hotfix says I dont have the correct version so I cant install that. I cant believe the latest drivers for my sound card is 4 years old! I have tried turning sound acceleration to standard and basic but it has not helped. Any advice? ms.cooldude
1.01 patch is the problem for a few however it doesn't freeze all the time. Its obious that your PC doesn't like the 1.01 patch so I think you need to re-install San Andreas to get back to 1.
gohan2091
How do you know my pc obviously doesnt like 1.01? Are you guessing or is this a known problem? The patch is suppose to fix several bugs to do with the sound but it appears it doesnt work. Can anyone find me the latest sound blaster live 5.1 drivers for my sound card? Creative website's latest drivers are 2002!
ms.cooldude
Im not guesing and yes, the 1.01 patch fixes several issues including the sound problem however works best with the new graphics card drivers from the nvidea website. Try updating the drivers to the latest.

I will have a go at reinstalling the game back to 1.00 but it is not the graphics card drivers I am talking about, I am talking about the drivers for my sound card. gohan2091
OK, its not the 1.01 patch, I just went back to the unpatched version and it is still crashing. Any other ideas? I believe its related to sound.

gohan2091
Thought I was making progress a while ago. I downloaded an older version of EAX.dll and put it in my GTA directory. I played the game for a whole 10 minutes without any problem but then it crashed... The crash happened when I smashed into a car at high speed. The sound of the crash kept repeating itself in a loop over and over. The radio in the background was playing fine but the whole game froze and I couldnt get back to windows. Does anyone use a Soundblaster live sound card and have no problems with this game?
TonyResta
lol, quadruple post, anyway, the 1.1 patch is meant to fix that exact problem of the sound f*cking up when craching into an object at high speed, you might wanna try the patch again, its up to you
