xXGTAPHREAKXx
Ok, i'm trying to import the songs from the new nickelback abum onto my itunes library. I buy the cd from my local wal-mart, and go to put it in. First it brings up it's own stupid little cd player, so i get rid of that. First I notice every time i try to put the cd in, the album never shows up on itunes. I decide to look deeper into the mini player, and find there's a save album. Hey great! I can save it onto itunes. Guess what, it saves onto my computer. After that, I go to itunes to see if i can import the songs. I go to file, add file to library, and find my music. When i click open it says the music is in WMA format and will automatically be converted to AAC. I click ok, and poof, it all of a sudden says that it is under protected WMA format and can't be converted, only non-protected files can. That's just wonderful, I then try to go to windows media player and go to syncronize, i plug in my ipod and it instantly says something about having technical difficulties, then it says no device is detected. Now I am pissed. I would be so angry if the publisher was so paranoid they didn't want anyone copying the files onto music devices, that they have them under protection, so they come up with their own stupid little player. I mean, you can buy the album off of itunes, why not be able to download it off the cd? I really need some light on this, if anyone can help out. Kaj.
I had the exact same problem. Same CD. I hate to tell you, but you're sh*t out of luck. My MP3 player (Sony Network Walkman) must convert the audio files to .omg or something, I forget the format, anyways, there's no way to get around this. I actually made a topic about it too. Your best bet would be to download the files using a P2P network. It IS legal, since you own the CD, so there's no worries there.
K^2
Try ripping it with WinAmp. Change the settings so that it rips into .wav, which you can most easily convert into any other format. If there is some sort of a protection, this is likely not to work, but it's still a thing to try. As a final resort, just play the CD on your computer, and use Audacity to record the sound. Select WAVE or Stereo Mixer for the recording source, and it will record all sounds your computer makes. If you make sure that you messenger and any other program that can make noise is off, you will just get the audio from the CD. Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns.
Majestic
http://www.cdfreaks.com/software/84 Try that. Funny how its easier to enjoy an album by downloading instead of buying it.
Edwards
Sounds like you're running windows. Try the traditional way, that is, insert the CD while holding down your shift key to disable autorun. Better yet, grab tweak UI (easiest way to find it: goeth here) and disable autorun altogether. This ought to let you bypass al the copy protection and just read it as a simple audio+data CD. If it's installed some software without your consent (which is pretty much the criteria for a virus), then you'll probably need to get rid of it. Of all the stupid things Microsoft has ever done in terms of security, autorun has got to be the single daftest idea they've had. Automatically running whatever happens to be on a CD... unbelievable. sysnode.org
xXGTAPHREAKXx
I figured it out, there's this new bull**** company. Emi. Who apparently are not allowing some cd's to be digitally copied. It says in the faq on they're website. "Why can't i download songs from my cd onto itunes?" "We have the cd under protection which means it can't be copied digitally" That's complete crap, emi can burn in hell.
Waste
New company, lol. Emi has been around for ages man. Anyways, I second the download it from a p2p source. That is bullsh*t since you own that CD. You paid for it, you should be able to what you wish with it.
GTA3Freak-2001
That's right to counter music piracy they put in place protections that make you want to pirate the music, great logic there
just another thug
That's Digital Rights Management (DRM) at work my friend. Nasty thing isn't it? Make sure to seed whatever you download as a f*ck you to the music industry.
Wolf68k
Open the CD drive andput the disc in, but DO NOT CLOSE THE TRAY YET Hold down the Shift key...it shouldn't matter which one. Now close the CD tray while still holding the Shift key down Keep holding down the Shift key and wait for the CD to be loaded into the system, watch for it to show up in My Computer. Now try your CD ripping software. If iTunes still doesn't work try something else like AudioGrabber or CDex or Exact Audio Copy. The only other idea after that is to find a friend with a Mac. Wolf68k
Well when you're still more or less sick and don't feel like reading the ramblings of others with (no offense guys and gals) ideas that more than likely won't work anyway, you did tend to miss someone does give some useful info.
