Hell No..
Last night, my mum moved the office chair and snapped the DVD-Rom Drive. (Im not sure why it was out in the first place) Now, im guessing this is just as easy to replace as anything else? I guess I just go and look for a DVD-Rom Drive? Cheers. I'm on Twitch! Are you? |Zephyr|
A cd/dvd drive is easy to install. If I were you though, I would look to buy a dvd reader and writer, not just a dvd rom drive. They are cheap as nowadays, probably pick one up for $60AUD off the net. But the installation is very easy: SEE
Hell No..
Well yeah, ive installed Burners before. I didnt know if I still needed a DVD-Rom for the top tray or not. Under that, we have a CD-Writer. Want to get a DVD-Writer though. I'm on Twitch! Are you? Come say Hi. https://www.twitch.tv/priceyryan
|Zephyr|
What you buy next has nothing to do what was in the slot before. So yeah, just get a dvd writer and you will be all good I suppose.
Sixdust
I recently bought a new drive, it has almost everything you need , This one is great I have yet to try my lightscribe feature though.
K^2
Installing a DVD-ROM or a DVD-RW is exactly the same as installing a CD burner. If you are planning to get a DVD burner, I would still recomend having a simple DVD-ROM drive as a primary optical drive. Burners, in general, tend not to be quite as dependable as read-only drives. So if you use a read-only drive when you don't need to burn any disks, the pair will probably serve you longer without needing a replacement. I also am looking for a new drive, what is lightscribe?
IcedOut
Im pretty sure lightscribe is where you flip the disc over and it makes the picture of the real DVD onto your copied one.
Sixdust
All the info on lightscrobe you need I also failed to mention that there is a dvd ram burner which may not be usefully to an average computer user, but it allows you to use dvd ram discs (bacically you can put files on and off dvd ram disks, like harddrives. However that format is a bit expensive.
fuckindumass
I bought a sony dvdrw about 10 months ago, and then an hp dvdrw with lightscribe a few weeks later. The real scoop on lightscribe One important thing missing from the makers of lightscribes info pages, it takes 1/2 hour to burn all but the simplest images, and you have to burn it 2 or 3 times if you don't like faint images! On my sony dvdrw, it is having trouble with reading discs already, the same problem I ran into with PS2s.... The HP is still running strong, and receives the most use, I have pretty much stopped using the sony garbage I took an image of some lightscribed discs, but can't fine my cameras cord to upload,,,,grr I get mixed reactions on my lightscribed labels, only about half the people can appreciate black/copper graphics.............. Spenc938
That's nifty, Ive never heard of that before. I might just look into that.
K^2
I have had problems before with LiteOn DVD burners. Maybe it was just bad luck, but I don't trust them anymore. Currently, I have a nice DVD+RW burner from HP that I got for about $50 on-line. It works great. How much does lightscribe-compatible media cost? Majestic
Screwdriver, 30 minutes of your time, superglue and sandpaper = bazzam, you fixed your broken drive.
K^2
Only if it's just the disk cradle that is broken. It tends to reside very close to the drive's main board inside, so it is very likely that a breaking cradle would damage the drive beyond repair. Still, worth a try. Or, at least, give it to somebody who can fix it. Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns.
