I think 90's because every GTA since GTA III have lead up and help explained the events of GTA III

If they did 90's they would have to port over all the cars from San Andreas. It might not look as much like Vice City anymore, and their goal with these "stories" games is to reuse existing work without redoing a lot of stuff.

The pink "Vice City Stories" logo wouldn't make any sense if it's 90's. They would risk losing that 80's vibe that made VC so great.

My money's on 80's. Could be a few years earlier or later.

I'd say late 70's.

70's couldnt work that was the "green" aira, 80's were pink, but so where the late 90's.

It's spelled era.

And I was thinking late 70's because in LCS you played as Toni Cipriani, a mission provider in GTA3. I was thinking in VCS you'd play as another mission provider from Vice City, like Ricardo Diaz or something.

It is a neon sign type logo so it could still point to the late 70's disco era which lead onto the 80's. My money is on either the early 80's or late 80's which could include 79.

just before the tommy vercetti arival

it will explain why diaz calls lance "Quinton"

in a better detail than whan you assume from

the very little lance tells... wich of course we

all know that lance is a liar anyhow.

Well a lot of people all over the net get the idea that this whole "stories" theme that Rockstar are making will always lead up to events in the console game, so for example -

LCS - GTA3

VCS - VC

SAS - SA?

If we were to go by this then VCS would be set before VC (1986) so and as edisoncarter points out, using the pink font theme again seems to stick to that era. I'd go for 1983.

I'm guessing Quinton was Lance's brother, who was iced by Diaz, and that is why Lance helps Tommy kill Diaz.

But playing as Lance Vance is another good idea.

rockstar should keep the 3 year gap as everytime a new gta comes out it 3 years later or before but i would trhink it'll be set in 1989 likely

Hey! That would be logical! The construction site finished and the owner will be Donald Love! Hmmm why not... rahkstar2.gif

LCS was before GTA III. So by that logic VCS will be BEFORE GTA Vice City. So it will be a few years before VC. Id say start of the 80ies. They wont go into the 70ies. They will save it for a later game I hope. I would love a whole GTA in the 70ies. And they could use that movie themes from Shaft, Foxy Brown and such. Imagine that. Thats the one thing they didnt yet do. They did 60's, 80's, 90's,00's, future (GTA2), but they didnt touch the 70's.

I would like it to be set in the 80's so that it explains things from Vice City.

Sometime in the early 80's i would personally think. If i remember correctly VC was '86? Why do i think this? I think this becuase of the VC font used. I know they wouldn't change it just for the game and as it's 'VC's font', it has to stay the same but the pink, squiggly type used just feels 80's-ish, and wouldnt give me the same feel in any other time period. imo of course.

But i'm always ready to be proven wrong.

The way they kill off characters in GTA games, it's always easier to do a prequel so everybody is still alive. Wouldn't it be weird to play as Lance Vance? There could be missions where you have a partner and the partner does all the work and you just run out and get shot and blow the mission. You could switch to the cell phone and press CIRCLE to call people and whine and moan.

It's said or rumored Grand Theft Auto IV is going to take place in 2006 but I'd expect Vice City Stories to take place in the early 80's like 1983. If it'll be a prequel, Tommy Vercetti will definitely not be the one you control because he's stll in serving his 15 years (1971-1986) for what he did in Harwood in Liberty City. I think it's stupid that they made prequels to the GTA games. We don't see what is going to happen after them. In VCS, you might control Lance Vance. Lance would be the most sense for the new controller. Heck, you might end up controlling Ricardo Diaz, or Mitch Baker. Even Sonny Forelli would be a consideration to me!

I would like VCS to be in like 1987, 88', 89 because it suits vice city. the VCS logo is pink so it should be in the 80s. the music was voted the best out of gta 3, SA & LCS. I always kept hoping that there would be a kinda vice city pt 2. i am so happy they are gonna release this. i just hope it comes to PC aswell as PS2. colgate.gif Tommy Vercetti was the best character out of all GTA's in my point of view. He's cool, and is so perfect as 80s mafia don. I hope you can either control him or someone who works for him although i would hate to see him get killed. mad.gif

Going with the way that Rockstar has been making games, I think they will probably create a prequel to VC in 1983 if they go by the 3 year trend (i used to call it a rule) which is likely if the trend is indeed real. LCS took place in 1998, 3 years before 2001 which was the setting of GTA 3 (and the year it came out). If they come out with another game based on SA or one of its cities then that game may take place in 1989 but that is just looking too far ahead. With the Neon pink sign it should be obvious that the game will take place in the 80s.

For the lead character I think Lance Vance may be the best candidate because he might have had a good career working with his brother but lost it all when his brother was killed. Then things started looking up when he joined Tommy but what did Lance have sun shiny days when he first arrived in Vice City. If it is not Lance then it should be another character in VC (since Toni was a character in GTA 3 that you worked for but controlled in LCS) but should not be too old. It should be someone in their late 20s or mid 30s since the previous characters looked like they were all around that age.

I think these prequels help flesh out the story with the question, "what happened before I first played the game?" You get to see why the city looked the way it does (like why some buildings were destroyed) and how did some of the characters get to where they are now. After the games you can just use your imagination, it makes more sense trying to figure what happens next rather than what happened. You are limited to reaching the result that is in the game when you think of the past.

In GTA IV, I think they will keep the 3 year rule but change to 4 years just because it's called GTA IV (unless R* changes the name). It may have many prequels as well or sequels on the other hand because it's the new trilogy.

All of this is just speculation. I don't have much to go by but GTA has consumed me and now I am its slave.

It will be '78-'85 and, leading up to vice city.

CaliMex: Dont see how there is a 3 year 'rule' they have only came out with 1 'stories' game so far, and it just happened to be 3 years before GTA3, dosent really mean anything.

there is a 3 year trend going on with

1983 - ? maybe VCS

1986 - Vice City

1989 - ? maybe VCS

1992 - san andreas

1995 - ? maybe san andreas stories

1998 - LCS

2001 - GTA 3

2004 ? - maybe GTA 4

so with a 3 year pattern emerging VCS might just be set in 1983 or 1989.

Grand Theft Auto IV is going to be a new era of GTA games so I don't think it'll take place in 2004. It's been rumored that it'll take place in 2006. Anyway, Tommy Vercetti was about 35 years old by the time of Vice City.

Look at what you just did, for all the games that havent been released, you just assumed that they are 3 years behind or after thier respectable "parent" game. You are just asuming that there is a 3 year trend when there is no trend at all.
