_G_T_A_
I have an e machines T2885 with 2.8 celeron, onboard intel extreme graphics and 768 333mhz DDR (1 stick is ultra and the other is what ever came with the emachines pc. creative sound blaster live 5.1. this motherboard has no agp or pci express slots so Id be stuck with getting a pci vid card. so Im just going to replace most of the internals all together. My choice now would be getting an intel socket 775 with a celeron 3.06 processor or getting a socket 939 and amd 64 3200+ (considering I havent bought an AMD based pc since I purchased a k6 system in the late 90s. i dont know much about amd s current qualities) this is really to gather opinions I guess but which way should I go while avoiding the nessecity to also upgrade the psu (power supply) either way Im going with an SLi capable board and perhaps a lower cost nvidia or ati card to start with till more money is available for a decent SLI setup now vid card choice is ATI X1300 All in wonder 2006 edition, or Nvidia 6800gt either with 256mb ddr keeping the rest of the components as they are . Im mainly upgrading now for a bit of preperation of next years GTA release but it would do allot of good to see inmprovments with My GTA 3 vice city and san andreas. (wonders if they will relase the pc version of the next GTA with the other formats (ps3, xbox 360 etc)
Star-Lord
I would go for the AMD system. I've personally had bad expierience with Celeron processors they are are not full pledge processors in the gaming arena. This is only my opinion though. I have a Amd 64fx system and I have to say my money was well spend. Never had any problems while gaming. I'm playing Doom 3 on it like if it was nothing. So! yes! if quality and performance is what you seek then you won't go wrong plus AMD processors come with 90 day warranty enough time to give it a test drive in case your not satisfy and want your money back?. But then again it's up to you. just a suggestion. Good Luck! Also think 64bit.... as this is comming pretty soon! with the new Windows Vista OS which will introduce to the world the new DirectX 10......No! Joke which will take games to the next level. GTA3Freak-2001
Problem is gonna be the PSU, considering your PC is a emachines and is not that great means it wouldn't have a very powerful PSU which you'll need for the updated hardware you intend to get. Then there's the situation of the case which may not fit your new hardware or won't have good enough cooling. I will actually move this to the PC chat since its more a PC related thing that just happens to be for San Andreas.
_G_T_A_
well I know the board in the machine right now is a microatx intel board. cooling I have began to resolve by cutting a port into the case side and installing a 120mm fan in it, right now the pc boast a 2.8ghz celeron I was even thinking of underclocking the cpu just a tiny bit on the new setup to accomdate for cooling and power consumption. but yeah i see your point ,, Im also going to try out SATA hardrives instead of what Ive always went with with the IDEcabled ata drives. well i guess I could spend an extra few for safe measure psu wise. emchines come with a 300watt psu was kinda thinking it would be sufficient. but you might be right. yeah I am wanting to go AMD more and more so yep AMD system is probably going to be what I go with .... now the vid card was wondering which would be better ,, X1800 allin wonder 2006 or 6800 GTX And windows vista,,, I have a feeling that its going to be microsofts biggest failer yet ,, even worse than windows ME. Im sticking with XP ,, because I bet you microsoft will release direct X 10 for XP sooner than we think Edited June 3, 2006 by _G_T_A_
