i want to change my player file.... but how?

i am really getting mad. i am browsing through my gta3.img folder using img tool, and i want to know how to change the player folder to make me be able to play as claude (the file for him is in there) but when i rename the claude file to 'player' and add the .dff and .txd files, cj ends up all strange. i have deleted the original player files before i put in claudes but its just not working....... any help please???
