themalkster
Hey all, I'm new and this is my first time building anything. I got SketchUp and decided to make a house, nothing special, but a house nonetheless. So, I made quite a bit (It's taken me about 2 hours, from the first time I've used it, so excuse me if I say I'm quite proud of it) including stairs, windows, etc. Its not finished though. I was just wondering, where do I go from here? I'm looking at the tutorials, but I'm a bit muddled to say the least. So if anyone has any suggestions it would be nice. Here are some screenshots. And the actual file I can't upload on here at the moment, but I will find a storage site shortly. Thanks!
AK-73
Hi, I've never worked with sketchup but it would occur to me that you'd have to export the model out of sketchup, preferably as .3ds file. In order to get it into GTA's .dff format you need zmodeler2 or gmax/3dsm. If you're into making buildings, zmodeler1 won't do for you because it doesn't support preliting. So choose between zm2 and gmax, import your model into it and do the rest of the work on the model there. What you still need to do is to do some clean-ups of the geometry (welding vertices), though that part only if necessary, set the color of all vertices (for starters, I'd say 100, 100, 100 is okay), and then start texturing the building. I usually start by looking for a similar texture in one of my gtas with the help of moomapper, then extracting the desired textures out of the .img/.txd and applying it to the geometry. In any case you will need to familiarize yourself with either zm2 or gmax/3dsm. I prefer gmax, as I've mentioned before, because I think it's more powerful than zm (at least than zm1) and it's very similar to 3dsm. If I ever want to become professional, I think working in 3dsm won't be too difficult for me. Alex
