ell
heres a topic to chat about the upcoming tony hawks game. here you can talk about what you want to see in it. here is the trailer.
Kippers
I dislike the name somewhat. With Underground and and American wasteland, you could easily shorten them to THUG and THAW with this you can't. It sounds odd going round saying THP8. you just can't shorten that name unless you say tony hawk 8. But that just makes it sound like a desperate game series. That trailer was awesome and that song was perfect. As it's on PS3 the graphics look sweet. I might pick this up when it arrives. The-end
Am i the only one who thinks it wont look half as good when we see atchual gameplay, and not just renders.
matt27689
No, you're not - but lets just rate that when we see it. For now.. we get amazed at stuff like that.
Venom
The over-exaggerated skating style... I think, makes a better game, I've played others and they are not a fun. I think the game will only really work if they continue to add new and unique ideas, rather then sticking to like that in THPS2, and so on. Such as the BMX, free walking and storyline elements were a nice touch.
RMT
Am i the only one who thinks it wont look half as good when we see atchual gameplay, and not just renders. I'm with you. CGI and rendering seem to be the 'it' thing for game trailers now. And you know it wont even be close to how the real game is. Trailer looked good. Shame IGN's video streaming is f*cking awful. Dasutin
Until I see a gameplay trailer, I'm expecting the same repetitive gameplay and stale storyline.
darthYENIK
I hope it's real. I almost jizzed over the wheel bite.
ManFromMars
All of the games are very repetitive, get boring easily and they use the same story line basically every time. I only really enjoyed THPS4 on the GC and of course THPS 1 and 2 on the PS1.
TenaciousD.
it look great, theres a 3 page piece on it in this months OPS2M, with any luck there gonna sort out the story this time, THAW has teh lameist story ever. Gotta save up for a PS3
Rob.
Was that kareem campbell at either the school from THS1 or the school 2 from THPS2? If so that's awesome, i loved that level, the blurred out architecture in the background of his moves looked very familiar, also the Rowley or Reynolds trick under that highyway, was that Los Angles from THPS3 or Philidelphia from THPS2. In both cases they may have been totally new levels, but if they were some oldies that would have rocked. THPS2 was the best. You could play as spiderman in skate heaven. TenaciousD.
personally i found THUG the best, the THPS games were starting to get boring and it was good to have a change with an actual story and cutscenes etc. Also it was great to beat Eric Sparroes ass at everything
Platinum.
That trailer looks amazing, to be honest I can imagine the graphics being just as good with actual gameplay footage, just at normal speed rather than slow motion. I don't know anything about the technical side of graphics and all that, but since on the screen there is only one person, a skateboard and scenery, they should be able to make it pretty damn detailed without it lagging shouldn't they? I bought a magazine the other day which featured 137 pages of PS3 games, most had little articles but this game had a page dedicated to itself. There's some stuff that hasn't been mentioned in this topic that they mention. ... <gap> After the series veered dramatically off the rails with the Jackass-inspired excess of THUG2 - where key tasks involved throwing tomtatoes at fat people and taking part in wheelchair races - the stunning next-gen game takes the series back to it's roots. THP8 has been completely rebuilt, with staggering animation and genuine physics, so skaters need to build momentum to make bigger jumps. Oh, and you can break your leg to score points, too. When you bail, your character will tumbe along the floor snagging scenery, gaining combo points as you go. <Snapped Arm +500> It's a bit like the Crashbreaker junctions from Burnout. ... <gap> Skaters will suffer speed wobble (you can even see their trucks flex), and visibly "pump" ramps to gain momentum, like real life... <gap> You start as a Rookie, and need to earn sponsors to become one of Tony Hawk's "Eight" best skaters in the world and unlock the fun park being built in town... <gap> Slow-mo Focus mode returns, allowing you to see wheels spinning, the intricate deck graphics and the texture of each skater's shoes - incredible Those are the bits from the article that were news to me, sorry if they've been announced before. In the trailer, does anybody know the name of the song that is playing in the background?
darthYENIK
That's awesome, so there will actually be wheel bite. And the momentum thing sounds awesome. And platnium check the end of the trailer. The song is: Kasibian - "Club Foot"
a_fool_from_edinburgh
As a skater so far I've been let down by the THPS series, number 3 was THE balls I thought, I also enjoyed the first THUG game. I didn't even bothe buying THAW as I was so shocked by it when I was at a mates house. I don't want a storyline, I don't want BMXs I want pure unadulterated skateboarding! That vid was IMPRESSIVE!! It just looked healthy as! that heelflip f/s board was . I hope they ditch the storyline but that could be unlikley, still I'd pu tup with it for those animations. I hope to hell they bring back Marsaille! And you have to be able to do flip to lip tricks in the next one... pleeeeaase!! You could in the past but they were solid to nail. I want to be able bust out flip disasters with ease.
original gangster
I didn't bother with THAW because THUG2 was a pile of sh*t, however looks like I'll be getting this one. The trailer looks sweet, can only hope it'll look like that while playing. I read in a magazine about the bone-breaking thing, if you fall off and move the analouge sticks around and press buttons, breaking as many bones as you can to score some extra points I think. I hope they don't go over the top with that.
Newbie41
Finally we have a tony hawk game where it actually concentrates only on the skating and not all that other bullsh*t. Im very curious to see how this game will turn out and if they will improve on their quota Im going to buy this game and play it for endless hours regardless of the price But.. hopefully we can actually control the moves... none of this press the square button and the trick is done. I want to be able to move the analog stick and actually watch my feet move while the board rotates.. is this even possible??
darthYENIK
THAW's skateboarding was awesome I thought. The best in the series. But they just gave you those few levels, plus like 4 or 5 levels for the classic mode. And those levels sucked. THUG2 was great, because of it's classic mode. No one realizes this for some reason, that the classic mode is exactly like the original 3 games in terms of gameplay. THAW's classic mode just sucked though. emeryrulz
Wow, that was amazing I can't wait, I'm still waiting to get THAW though.
Daz
I am hoping its like Thrasher, only with much much better graphics, way more tricks and etc. That game easily beats all skating games even up to this day. Thaw wasnt too bad as some old tricks were re-done and is better than all the others for style. But yeah if you want a flying around skating game go play street skater or SSX on no snow mode or some sh*t. At least there should be a realistic mode for people who actually skate/like the actual real thing. None of that bullsh*t cartoon/mtv storyline bullsh*t. It aint no gta of the sportsworld. Well anyway it looks good, and I just hope to f*cking god its true and they have redone the look of every trick and such, they STILL havent fixed the rock fakie since thps2. Mr.Mister
THP8? Im looking very forward to this game. I mean... You can break your bones. I hope that you can scan in your face and hair and all that. That would be so awesome.
ell
it said that its actualy going to be free roam like san andreas. THAWs retarded definition of ffree roam were little tunnels that took you from one level to the next they were just as boring as a loading screen
Newbie41
Personally, i thought THUG2 was gay.. THUG 1 was one of the best.. i mean, your friend steals the tape and after that, you just want to get the little sucker and punch him in the face THAW was great as well, probably the best in the series

THUG 1 was one of the best.. i mean, your friend steals the tape and after that, you just want to get the little sucker and punch him in the face THAW was great as well, probably the best in the series I totally agree with you THAW 1 the story line of becoming a pro skater it was just cool THUG 2 just too un realistic and the story line had not much point.. it was Bam Margera that designed THUG 2 wasnt it? I liked THAW with the new stuff like hitting people with your board and collecting stuff up to build a skate park i guess the story line for that was okay. THAW was a kind of a skateboard RPG so that made it cool Im still waiting on the THP8 video buffering up it looks quite sweet but i cant confirm if it will be good or not untill i see a game play movie. Grandthefter
I'm going to get this game when it comes out. I avoided american wasteland cos i thought it looked a bit retarded. This one though looks like its worth the purchase, they've redone everything up from scratch so it ought to be worth it anyway. And the graphics from the look of the trailer look pretty swish
