I need a GPU cooler that is compatible with my BFG 7900GT. It MUST be silent, but also cool alot. What would you guys recommend?

You can email them and ask and unlike many companies they are pretty quick with their replies.

Just make sure you give them details as to what you're asking.

Tell them this....

I have a <insert maker name here> 7900GT <insert card's RAM size here> PCIE.

I see from your web site that the Accelero X1 will fit the 7900GTX. But will it fit a 7900GT?

If it doesn't do you plan to release a product that will and how long until it will be released?

Something to think about. The Accelero X1 blows air down onto the mobo. It's like it's Sliencer series which blows it out the back.

The Zalman on the other hand does just like a traditional CPU cooler does which is to blow the air down onto the GPU.

The old Zalman VF700 series always got good reviews. It stands to reason the VF900 does as well.

In either case I would do some review searches with Google and read as many as you can and see what they have to say about the products. I always do this no matter what it is, if I can help it....it's really hard to find a Pro's review of things like a bluetooth dongle.

Zalman VF900-Cu hands down, it's the very best cooler for the 7900GT. It fits on it like a dream, it looks sexy and it makes sure your card does not go over the 45°C ... ever.

And it's silent... very silent. Best GPU Cooler around atm. FANMATE2 included. Memory Heatsinks also.

7900gt/7900gtx/7800gt/7800gtx all have same mounting holes.

6800gt/ultra have same mounting holes for the gpu and different holes for the ram, as far as I know.

nv silencer also fits on the 7900gt cards, but with minor mods.

The problem isn't the mounting holes as much as it is the pieces on the card itself.

Move a compasitor or resistor to a different location on the card and the cooler won't fit.

The 5700, 5700LE and 5700Ultra all have same mounting holes (if I remember it correctly) and yet the NV Silencer will only fit on the Ultra card because of the placement of some other parts.

Why buy an new cooler?

If its a noisy cooler then yeah, makes sense. But I don't see the advantage of overclocking cards but for benchmarking only, which in itself is pretty pointless unless you don't like using your PC for actual working and gaming.

I personally hate the NV Silencers. The fans die quickly I have found in the past and they don't offer much better than stock on newer gfx cards as manufacturers have caught up with them, esp with the 7900/7800 GTX coolers. Also, the NV Silencer will surely need some cutting to fit. I've had to cut to fit the last 3 on my 6800 Ultra and 9800 Pro.

Zalman seems to be the way to go but you need to use the RAM cooling if you want to clock the card any. Everyone seems to sing the praises of the VF900-Cu. Quiet, great cooling and looks nice too. But I personally don't have/need one. Well I might need one, stupid GTX >:

Proper cable management and fans for airflow is a must. The GFX being the main piece of kit in the case can be severely affected by poor case cooling and cable management. Hiding unwanted and unused cables behind the motherboard "tray" between the chassis and side panel there usually works for me.

Dup: I am getting a new one because I'm afraid this one isn't good enough. I don't know what the recommended temp for GPU's is, but mine is at 59° when playing heavy games (Oblivion, BF2, HL2), and 52° when just idle (Firefox, WMP, etc). Isn't it recommended to have 45 or something?

Also, I don't plan on overclocking my card, if that has any effect on the cooler I should go with.

Did you try running that program I linked to before to really stress your card and see how high it can really get?

59C isn't that bad while stressed and if 52C is the while idle then that isn't too bad with a stock heatsink. I've seen others at Guru3D forums that have a 7900GT that idle worse than you (55C) and load worse as well in some cases (70C).

You'll be using those RAMsink with the Zalman no batter what.

@Dup

There were issues in the eariler version of the NV Silencer 5 for the 6800 series but the rev2 and for sure the rev3 fixed those problems.

I run mine at 100% fan speed and have done so for months now and no problems. And it fit perfectly.

I think he means ATi Tool:

http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/

The latest 0.25 Beta 14 can be used on nVidia cards and it can stress the mem/gpu at its own pace by scanning for artefacts itself.

It's a neat program but read the help files etc to use it efficently. Basically you get it to find the max memory, then reset memory to stock then find max GPU, then try both together. Soemtimes a decrease of 5 or so MHz is needed for ultimate stability. Then its a case of using the new Rivatuner with 7900 support to log temperatures and keep a close eye for artefacting in games.

Good Lord no.

I did use ATITool for a while but it needs a lot more work before I use it on my card again.

Sorry, that link was in another topic it would seem.

ATITools card stresser is lame to watch.

However, RTHDRIBL (or Real-Time High Dynamic Range Image-Based Lighting and I dare you to say it 3 times real fast) is not only cool to watch but let it go for 30mins and you can watch your card cook.

Guess it's the difference between HL2 at max quality @ 20 FPS and HL2 at max quality @ 30 FPS, in my case.

Sheesh, you and your mounting problems. Its easy for waterblocks - If it got matching holes, it works wink.gif
