The effect is very impressive, imagine this in SA!

The guy made a "Generic version" (with the source code) for all dx9 games. However Gtasa.exe crash at startup with this dll installed.

Maybe someone know the way to tweak the file for SA?

Is it just a program that watches for textures, then swaps them with (user supplied)replacements? If so, TexMod does it well, I've tested it. I have no info on author or where to get, but I have it, if anyone wants to try it. 500kb. Keep in mind this is going to use resources, and most people have trouble running SA as it is.

No, it doesn't swap textures.

HDR, fake or real, is a post effect thats rendered after the initial "scene" rendering is done, but before its presented to your screen. kind of like motion blur but with a different intended effect.

It crashes for me as well. if one looks at the code, and compares it to most gta-d3d hooks, this guy uses a somewhat different approach.

I tried it with an old dx9 game: Tomb raider 6, and it work perfectly!

Maybe it's a copy protection problem (tomb raider doesn't seem to have one).

 

Anyway, pseudo-bloom or hdrish fullscreen effect would be a nice improvement for San andreas.

 

I know smartshaders for ati cards, but it's only work for opengl based games.

Is it impossible to write a d3d9.dll post-filter for directX based games?

This would be a great mod for San Andreas. I have been playing SA with "stylish black & white" smartshader but it is rather boring. Somebody made a mod for doom 3 & quake 4 which had HDR effects (or was it bloom... cant remember anymore). Anyways... those games are directx based games so I'm sure that this could be done for SA too.

Doom 3 and Quake 4 are OpenGL games.

Unfortunately, I've never seen Bloom/glow mods for DirectX games... except this famous "OblivionFakeHDR".

 

The "generic" dll of this mod work fine with some dx9 games sold without copy-protection sytem. For San Andreas, it would be necessary to modify the source code of the mod... Difficult thing, maybe impossible (I'dont know, I'm not a programmer)...

You can use this program to enable Triple Buffering for D3d games (more fps), and add some post-filters effects like B/W and Sepia... but these filters are tweakable. This looks pretty powerful, but one concern is distribution. I doubt everyopne will want to launch GTA via the Dx tweaker. But thanks for the link, im gonna poke around with this.

Has this stopped? It sounds good and and simple the way it upgrades the visual experience the game provides us. Don't drop it cool.gif dudes.

DexX has that real reflections mod...if it can add shaders and advanced lighting to the game then maybe it could add the fakeHDR effect

Hmm if not Dexx (we love you btw!! tounge.gifbiggrin.gif ), maybe someone from gostown makers team could try to add this to SA... And put it together with its great dark shadows smile.gif

HDR for SA with this shadows will be great!

If I didn't have a directx 7 system only I would have brought it to VC quite some ago. I have looked at the source code and it didn't look all that complicated actually. One just would have to hook it properly into the GTA rendering process.

probably 2.0. certainly not less than that.

 

on a related note, i also own and play oblivion, except i can use the game-native bloom (not the d3d9-dll version). While i would like gta to look like that, there are some other non-bloom enhancements that contribute to the overall effect. The single biggest difference is in the sky. In oblivion the sky actually exists. It moves, changes colors and has clouds that don't look like blurred pieces of dog sh*t. In gta the sky is a color that fades into the distance fog, with camera-facing "cloud" images that don't actually exist in the world (the clouds you fly through in the sky are there, but the ones that are far, far away don't exist in any physical sense. the fact that they align themselves to the camera makes them look super-fake).

 

I can add bloom to gta, but bloom in and of itself may not be enough. A more realistic example of the "look" that i'm going for, would be in Need For Speed : Most Wanted.

Not really. I mean, yea, that dude really is being an idiot lately, but there really

is no limit. The limit is only in the knowledge of the person revamping the rendering

engine. Entire files could be replaced, instead of adding new sh*t... If someone spent

enough time at it, GTASA could look like IV, minus hi def textures and hi poly models.

 

It would take a lot of work, it is rare to find someone who can do it, but it can be done.
