mrpink1507
Okay, I know some dumbass started a terrible topic that had nothing to do with green day. fox09
[my opinion] I've never liked Greenday, or any other of the newer rock/punk/emo/buttf*ck bands. First of all, none of them seem "musically inclined." Back in the days of Iron Maiden, there would always be these great, complicated guitar riffs. In this new stuff, all I ever seem to hear is power chords. Same thing with bass. As a bass player, I definately appreciate a sweet bass line, but again, with this new stuff, it always seem to be the guy just riding the same note over and over. Gets repetitive and boring. Again, same thing with drums, etc. Haven't listened to the lyrics overly much, but they really don't sound too "imaginative" or well thought-out. And finally, one last thing that kills this music for me, it all sounds the same! It's not about the music anymore. It's about fitting into the popular "image". To be what everyone likes. [/rant] And yes, I realize I've said this same thing at least 3 times now, I decided to be a little more "tactful" about it, lest I piss someone off. Saggy
I actually liked Greenday back in the 90's. They always sounded pretty nice; not the most musically spectacular group in the world, but they knew how to sound good. To me it always appeared that Greenday was more lyric-oriented. I can't really appreciate Greenday anymore, however. As fox9 said, the rampant onslaught of nothing but power-chords gets a little old. The least they could do is attempt to try some different chord formation if they're going to abandon melody altogether. In any event, I don't mind Greenday in the least bit, but I won't go out of my way to listen to them. Mainland Marauder
I spin Dookie every so often. I really liked GD back in the day... The stuff on American Idiot that I've heard I like too. But yes, every song tends to sound the same after awhile. "You tell me exactly what you want, and I'll explain to you very carefully why it cannot be." Dublo 7
I actually really liked the album American Idiot. It wasn't anything really special, but some of the songs were quite nice (Homecoming, Letterbomb, St. Jimmy, Whatsername). Did anyone even listen to that one album "Warning"? The singles from it were awful.
Informant X
I seen them live at the vans warped tour one year and was nearly trampled to death. They was a really spectacular group, and i mean that in a very non Elton Johnnish way. It seems all they have done recently is bash the bible, and thats not cool. So I dont really listen to them anymore. And fox09 is my new friend. Edited May 30, 2006 by Informant X
ManFromMars
I used to like there old albums like Dookie but since they released American Idiot imo they have just gone down hill. Overall: Old albums = better.
Jack_Knife
*words* Songs definately do not have to be complex to be good. The type of music that Green Day play doesn't requires a Maiden solo or a Flea-from-the-80's bassline. Powerchords and root-note basslines suit the music, and fit in well. While I don't really enjoy Green Day, one of my guitly pleasures is listening to blink-182. I'm a guitarist and a bassist, yet I can appreciate their music because of its simplicity. The White Stripes are another good example. Most of Jack White's rhythm guitar is as basic as it gets, and they don't even have a bassist, yet they're probably one of my favourite bands. "You can play faster than Al Di Meola and do it with only one pinky, but if you're not listening to what is going on around you, you might as well just shut up" isn't your croth suppose to be erecting when you have an orgasm? TheJkWhoSaysNi
Green Day annoy me. The vocalist's voice just really irritates me. They're incredibly over played and all their songs (at least their recent ones) sound identical. I used to be completley apathetic towards them, but now if I hear a green day song on the TV or radio I have to change channel or switch it off. TheSpillCanvas
I like some Green Day. I don't like most of it. And I can't really begin to explain why, either way. Just my tastes, I guess.
Guglielminpietro
They have a couple good songs, but I can't listen to them because of the feller's voice. 'Time Of Your Life' and 'When September Ends' are both good songs, but as I say, I can't listen to them because of that irritating screech of vocals. Plus, they have some pretty terrible songs as well, like 'American Idiot'. What a f*cking awful song that was. soundcloud.com/TheDamnFineCoats
Black-hawk
Well seeing as my first ever GD album was, now don't laugh, American Idiot (just when it came out, and no one heard of them). Seriously, there are some nice songs on AI, they just got freaking over-played. Anyway, I really liked the album, so I decided to get some of their other stuff, and someone suggested I should get Dookie, and I did. I couldn't stop listening to it. 3d album was International Superhits, stopped listening to them after that All I can really thank GD for is showing me a genre of music that really appeals to me, no not the emo bullsh*t. After listening to them, I decided to find similar stuff by other artists (and thanks to internet music elitism, LimeWire, Pandora.com I got shown the right way), bands like NOFX, Bad Religion, the older AFI (who seem to just be copyig GD's emo style now) and the more popular The Offspring. Now I'm into metal.

Informant X
One of their best albums was Kerplunk, and Dookie. I could only handle so much Green Day cuz I'm a musician myself and their music made me feel isolated in some way I cant explain. They are still talented enough to punk it out. It just sucks BJ Armstrong decided to write lyrics about bashing the bible. Some other good bands you might like if youre a Breen Day fan: Rufio, Big Wig, NOFX, Anti-Flag, Pennywise, Rancid(BJ Armstrong from GD composed the rancid hit song "Radio"). Also check out Epitaph records site for other bands as well you might like. Edited May 30, 2006 by Informant X
THAW_Punk
I slightly agree with the post above me, about the 'bashing the bible' thing. Well anyways, Green Day is my favorite band, my second is Blink 182. My favorite Green Day songs are: Wake Me Up When September Ends Jesus of Suburbia Boulevard of Broken Dreams Longview American Idiot When I Come Around Minority Holiday Blood, Sex & Booze Welcome to Paradise Basket Case Brain Stew Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) Warning Waiting St. Jimmy My favorite Green Day albums are: Dookie (second album I bought) American Idiot (my first GD album I bought) Warning (3rd album I bought) Insomniac (4th album I bought) My favorite Green Day videos are: Basket Case (the 1st GD video I saw) American Idiot (2nd video I saw) Warning (funny, cool video) Jesus of Suburbia (really long & awesome video) Wake Me Up When September Ends (good war scene, but the talking at the beginning is a little annoying) Boulevard of Broken Dreams (good, dark video) Longview (awesome video) Holiday (kickass video) Geek Stink Breath (awesome video) When I Come Around (good) Welcome to Paradise (great video) Brain Stew (great) Time of Your Life (great) Waiting (good) There are mostly good songs on the new GD albums, but the old ones are still a little more better. Sly_Madman
My Generation (cover of a the who song) Actually that's a Limp Bizkit song. Actually, it was a Who song back when Fred Durst was still in his daddy's ballsack. Anywho, I actually liked a few songs off "Dookie", but I can't agree with "American Idiot". I don't know what did them... Maybe it was the whole "Let's cash in on the punk emo trend while we still can", I don't know if it's the fact that every wannabe punk in my school talked about it 24-f*ckin'-7 when it was released, or maybe it was seeing those 3 jackasses in all black wearing eyeliner and hearing those idiotic songs (which were about how lonely they were, though they were at every award show having a blast with their friends, or how much the hate the government that allows their crap to be played on heavy rotation on every radio station) everywhere I went. Phalanxe
Then what's your reasoning? As to why they are bad? The utter lack of talent, unoriginality, and repetitiveness in their music should be enough. I'll add to that. Simplicity can be good when done right. They don't do it right.
