Jordan
What kind of a screwed up movie is this? Christian Bale drops tons of weight and gets down to 120 lbs by not eating for a few weeks for the movie role. The movie takes place in like New York City or LA but it's ALL shot in Barcelona, Spain. There's carnival rides called 666 and people getting their arms absolutely butchered in huge machinery. There's a bald guy that is haunting Bale, and he isn't on drugs or alcohol or anything. Dumping bodies into rivers, kids dying, prostitutes swearing, etc. Strange movie! But good! The Machinist.
Demarest
After watching this movie once, I had to watch it again. That said, it was pretty slow going. I think it asks for too much patience from the viewer. I like Jennifer Jason Leigh in it though. She's aged pretty well I think.
jelly
I'm usually not very patient with 'slow' movies and I normally can't stand mindf*ck movies like Memento, but this one was great. There's just something about it.
Jordan
Seems to be a connection between those that saw this and those with karma?
Ben
That depends on how much karma . I haven't seen it for a few months, but I thought it was pretty good. Don't mind the thought-provoking, mess with your head movies like Memento and Fight Club . Having said that though, this doesn't stand up to those two IMO, but is still quite good. Twas a little strange, but I really enjoyed it. Makes for good watching when you feel like something different.
ISd3d
When I rented it about a year ago, I remember watching it a second time in the same day because I liked it so much. I need to get this on DVD. Did you guys like American Psycho? Empire Of The Sun?

Did you guys like American Psycho? Empire Of The Sun? I loved American Psycho but I haven't seen Empire of the Sun. I'm still waiting impatiently for online vendors in my region to pick up the new extended DVD version of AP. I actually saw the movie before I read the book - obviously they had to cut it down, but the scenes they reproduced were masterfully made. Having Bale's ridiculous yuppie caricature in my head when reading the book actually helped it a bit, I think.

It's funny, he looks almost exactly the same just much shorter. Also a pretty badass movie. Makes me feel good when I watch it. Yeah.
